Re: Pre Draft Discussion
I have compared Holiday to Kemba Walker before and I really think that his ceiling can be that high...All Star scoring PG.
But I would prefer Trae Young because his crazy great 3p shooting.

Then take McDonough’s boy Holiday at #31.

I agree, but I think Mannix is misreporting this. There is a very overtold story that Booker called McD to try to get him to pick Ulis and McD made up a player's name to mess with Booker but really he had Ulis at the top of his board at that pick anyways. I think Mannix is reading the wrong thing into that.

I lol'd at this: "Even more than Young, Sexton is the best offensive point guard in the draft"
Trae Young was arguably the most valuable offensive player in the history of college basketball for a single season.
I do like Sexton though. Won't be upset if we take him. I am kind of indifferent between him and SGA, but both are firmly behind Doncic and Young for me.

McD explained it in the press conference at the top of the draft...that Book called him during the draft and that he was at the top of the board anyway. Who knows....I doubt he'd say otherwise if that's the case. It probably wasn't a reach at the time so no big deal but I don't know if it's best to try and put best friends or brothers on the team together when you are rebuilding and might have to make tough decisions.
Holiday doesn't necessarily seem like a reach. Some of the people who's opinions I really trust, some scouts I know really like him though they don't necessarily see him as a long term starter on a good team, but a great guy off the bench.

But that's the thing, don't we already have like 3-4 PGs who would be good off the bench? Knight, Payton if we keep him, Ulis (based off his rookie numbers, he struggled last year), and Harrison I think all have that potential to be solid off the bench. We need a starter.
I would just much rather get someone with more upside or one of the wings in that area that project to have high potential like Smith. I think we can get a solid backup caliber PG at 31 with Shamet, Milton, Melton, etc. And those guys can play some 2 as well. So I guess I just don't see the appeal with Holiday unless you believe he is going to be a much higher upside player than those others.

This is where I'm at too. This class feels deep in backup PG's so I'd rather take a swing on a wing at 16.
Unpopular opinion but I'd prefer Holliday at 16 to trading a bunch to move up to get Young. At least with Holliday's length he has a chance of holding his own on D.

Yes, I'm not saying he is my favorite, but he is a good shooter, unlike most of our point guards off the bench. Some call Knight a good shooter but he's really not great.
I agree we need a starter. Maybe he can become one. Maybe we can move up, though I think that will be tough to do.
But I agree...if a guy like MIles Bridges is there at 16 I would easily take him and go with Shamet or Milton at 31. Though those guys likely are not starter quality either.
That's why I like Okobo. He might not be better than those other guys now but he certainly has the highest upside, and is probably nearly as good now anyway.

Oh for F Sakes. Ulis was a second round pick and good value at the time.
If Holiday is a top 15 player on the board - that's one thing. Just don't do it to make Ayton happy. Don't keep Ulis to make Booker happy. And if Gambo is right, if the Suns take a PG - Ulis will be waived.
These judgments can be hard to make. Many players should have been picked sooner than where they went. But I agree that we shouldn't pick someone just because Ayton wants to play with him.

So do I, and many here. As it unlikely as it seems, it would take a draft shock of the ages for McDonough to take Doncic at #1 over Ayton. Everything points to Ayton being the number #1 pick...

#LUKALIVES.
Can we all just agree to be respectful towards supporters of the other player we don't pick , when the time comes?
Let's not have sore losers and winners. We all support the same team, after all.
...Unless we draft Bagley, in which case we can all pick our torches together and march towards Laughing Stock Arena...

SHAZAM!
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.
