The first domino is LeBron I would think

Kobe is meeting with Carmelo today. Gasol said if they get Melo - he would sign with them again. I am not sure how they have the cap space to do that - I thought with his Bird Rights - it took all their cap space

Granted, if they dump Nash, they can give Melo probably 18 and Gasol 10. I guess it works. Kobe, Melo and GAsol would be 51m if my numbers are right. Randal is two million. The other pick is 1m. So I guess they can make it work.

This is a question for JDLaw though - he is the resident capologist.

Whoa. That leaves Isaiah adrift. And it squashes any reasonable chance of Bledsoe to SAC.

I wonder if there could be a three team trade brewing that would center on Isaiah Thomas in a S&T to Minnesota and Kevin Love coming to Phoenix. It seems like the kind of move McD would pull off. Not sure what would go to Sac, probably the Morrii and maybe a draft pick. Hmmmmm.....

You like Isaiah Thomas that much? I don't think the TWolves trade Love for Thomas.

Minny gets hosed in that scenario.

It wasnt a fully fleshed out trade mind you. But maybe Minny said they are in the market for a strong guard, and the Suns weren't willing to budge on Dragic or Bledsoe, so they went out and found the best and most easily traded guard on the market? Again, lots of haggling to be done to find value for each team, but it wouldnt shock.

Think about what we gave up to get Bledsoe. And that's mostly because we involved a third team (Milwaukee), who gave little and got little, but was able to facilitate for us. Wouldn't put it past McD to do that again.

They definitely have the cap space. They could have given both LeBron and Melo max deals if they could have dumped Nash and Randle. All they have on the books is Kobe at about $23, Randle at $2.5, and Nash at 9.5. So they have $35 under contract, and with a cap at $62 ($63?) that leaves $27 or $28 million. So I guess it's close. But I imagine they would try to find a taker for Nash somehow, which would give them $37 million. They also could always stretch Nash, which would drop his hit to a little over $3, and give them $30-$31 million. That's enough for $20 to Melo and $10 to Pau.

Kobe/Melo/Randle/Pau? Kendall Marshall?

I wouldn't even mind if they did that, because I don't think that's a playoff team in the west, and though it would hurt our draft pick, it prevents them from signing Love, and Melo and Durant play pretty much the same position, so they likely have zero chance at him too. Other than it making our draft pick worse, it makes them mediocre.

If they really stink too, we maybe don't even get that draft pick because of it's protection, and may not get it until they are good, or we may trade it anyway.

Not JUST Thomas, but a package including him.

Something like:

MIN Gets:
Isaiah Thomas
Jason Terry (Expiring)
Alex Len
Suns pick (Lottery protected) 2015 and 2017

SAC Gets:
Markieff Morris
Marcus Morris
Suns 2nd Round Pick

Suns Get:
Kevin Love

Not sure if the salaries would work, but I think that's decent value. Not the BEST or equal value, but Love is holding the cards here with his ability to nix any trade by threatening to not re-sign.

Yeah with you there. Probably makes them a playoff team, but no higher than the 6th seed and a first round exit. Kobe still has health concerns (needs to prove he can still play for a full season, or most of one), and they would have NO bench. AT ALL. Like, none. They'd basically fill out their bench with minimum contract guys. So when the starters sat you'd basically be playing the equivalent of the Bakersfield Jam.

Biggest problem with that is it would leave Minnesota with like 5 power forwards, most of them tweeners, but they have Gay, so they would have the two Morrises, Derrick Williams, Carl Landry and Jason Thompson. The last three all make like $6 million too.

Sacramento has a weird team for trade pieces. The only real assets they have that they could trade are like Thomas, Stauskas and McLemore. They'd have to get a pg back and send out at least one of those power forwards.

I think Isaiah Thomas might end up in Detroit with Josh Smith in Sacramento. But then they'd need a pg. Not sure if they would want to take back Jennings. They want a pass first one. I know they want Rondo, and with him and Josh Smith as friends, it might make some sense, but I don't know what they could send Boston. Maybe they send Boston McLemore or Stauskas and like the expiring Derrick Williams and a pick?

What free agents are left that could possibly team with James, Bosh and an aging and broken Wade that could beat the West next year? I just don't see it. They couldn't get it done this year and their team was decent. I just don't see any improvements, at least not with what's left out there. If they had gotten Lowry, Gortat, Gasol, etc, and Wade stayed healthy...... maybe they could put up a fight. But I just can't imagine any decent free agents currently available taking the paycut necessary to most likely finish 2nd and get destroyed by whichever team comes out of the West. I'd love to hear Riley's sales pitch, though.

The only ones out there that are worth anything of value in name or perception are Pau, Deng, and maybe Marion and Carter (lol). I'm not sure what more the Heat think they can pull off. They have no assets to trade, they have no players to sign.

Exactly, and comprising a team of all those guys plus James, Bosh and Wade just doesn't shout Championship to me. I don't think they'd be any better than this year's squad that got destroyed by the Spurs.

Off Topic but does anyone know how the Beasley situation works?

We are paying him, I think, for 3 more years under the stretch provision.
Let's say it's 1mil per year against the cap.

What if a team signs him this season. Does that get shaved off the cap for us this year, each year, or no years?

I'm still shocked at how little Bledsoe's name is staying out of the media's mouths. :o

Oddly, the best FAs out there for Miami, are ours, two of which are RFAs. Miami can't afford the big names, while paying Lebron what he wants. Tucker and Frye would be perfect for them. Both are good three point shooters, and both are very good role players. Moreover, both could start if needed.

I was listening to NBA radio on Sirius this morning. They brought this up and believe that teams are scared away and really think Phoenix will match any offer so they aren't wasting their time.

And that's awesome for us - if they're making an offer to our RFAs because Lebron has told them "I'll stay if you get Frye and Tucker" then we'll just match...and Lebron knows that.

The thing with that is, the Lakers have no reason NOT to throw him a max.
1.) They get Bled
2.) They don't, but make us pay max, which we want to obviously get under that.

Return to Phoenix Suns
