The Suns already have Booker, Bender, Chriss, Len, Warren, Goodwin, and Ulis. Seven players that are between the ages of 18-23. And the Suns have been pretty clear since drafting Bender and Chriss that neither is ready to contribute immediately. So acquiring Millsap for one year does not hinder a rebuild imo. All it does is make you a better basketball team right now. The goal is to win games, not tank. Now I would not trade the Miami picks or future Suns picks without lottery protection for Millsap, but I would trade a draft pick or two in the later part of the first round for him.

But a lotto protected 1st isn't going to get that deal done. If the Hawks make him available they'll have multiple offers with plenty of teams with the cap space to absorb his deal. I'd guess both Miami picks would be the starting point but it might take more.

I'm just praying Horford leaves so this dumb ass option come off the table.

We must have SOMETHING or SOMEONE that Atlanta wants if it has been discussed. I would bet that Tucker is a part of it.

We already have McD on tape saying that the plan is to develop Bender/Chriss and bring them along slowly as they are very very raw (Much raw-er than other top 10 picks. With both of them being so young, im guessing it will take them 3-4 years to develop and start reaching their potential. That could be 3-4 years of learning behind an all-star and one of the leagues top defenders (aka a good person for our rookies to learn from). Millsap also isnt your average ego driven all-star as well, he is very humble. His ties to Hayward would help next offseason, when we would have the capspace to sign Hayward, and if need be to exceed the cap to re-sign Millsap, all while bringing a winning culture back to the Valley.

As for picks, i would give up one of the Miami ones, a lotto protected 1st from us, and a 2nd or 2 easy. Tucker/Goodwin/Knight would all be available to them as well (Schroder is their only PG, Tucker is a Hawks type of 3&D player, and Goodwin is still young with potential (?). All 3 are on great contracts for the current NBA and free's up the space to keep Horford.

We could just keep ALL of that and sign him next year if you really want him that much. Just not worth it IMO.

Just re read the post and reliased i didnt read the part about resigning Millsap. So yeah I could see why someone people would go along with your idea. I still wouldnt do it though,

Bledsoe
Booker
Hayward
MIllsap
Len

Isn't terrible.

If we somehow add Millsap and Butler/George (spoiler alert: we won't), we're top 3 in the west and more than a first round exit

Bledsoe/Price
Knight/Booker
George/Tucker/Warren
Millsap/Bender/Chriss
Chandler/Len

Only the Warriors and Spurs have a better team than that

To all the fans that want to go 100% rebuild and tank again for another top five pick, I get it. However, you are also running the risk of being in the world of basketball irrelevance for the next several years. Look at the Kings. They have missed the playoffs for 10 straight years. They have had draft picks in slots 4-8 every year for the past eight years. They also have a superstar in Cousins. Even with him and 8 straight drafts of having a top quality draft slot, they still suck. EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

When you have the chance to truly improve your team without sacrificing important assets, you do it. Otherwise, when will it end? How many Lebron James and Kevin Durants are there? If you want to tank every year hoping you win the draft lottery the year that the next generational player happens to be in the draft, you might be in for a very, very long wait. Now I am not against rebuilding the right way with young players. But I am also not against improving the team either. I do not see how trading one or two non-lottery picks for an all-star while your rookies develop is a bad thing.

This Suns team has way too much talent to tank. Assuming they are healthy, the chances of them being bad enough to to get a top five pick are slim anyway. I would rather be a much better team and have the young players get experience winning games than suck and get a pick in the 10-14 range.

I'm either Win Now or Win in 5 years.

If you Win Now, you trade everything for 3 All-Stars.

If you Win in 5 years, you acquire 8-10 top picks and hope you get 3 All-Stars.

I doubt they want Tucker. They just signed Bazemore as a defensive SF and have a better version of Tucker in Sefolosha with a year left at $4 million. MAYBE Knight. But probably neither because the only reason to trade him would be to clear massive cap space to sign someone else. This rumor actually makes zero sense for the Hawks unless something crazy happens. I don't understand why they would sign Howard to a huge deal and trade Millsap...unless they just really think they will lose Millsap next offseason or if he isn't happy or something.

It's amazing that one Cleveland reporter can tweet something and the rumor gets this much legs.

I don't understand how you think we are going to get Millsap without trading lottery picks. I hate to tell you, but Knight and Tucker isn't enough for Millsap. I know you mention Philly would send great picks in such a deal but they are not going to send a bunch of valuable picks for Knight and Tucker. Why wouldn't they just take Millsap back?

A Sacramento Fan on the Atlanta board offered their 3 first round picks and Bogdanovic for Millsap.

Millsap is a perfect fit with Dwight. We'd need to blow them away so it's just not worth it. The FA crop is better next summer.

If we were to trade for Millsap it would probably be Tucker and Goodwin plus 2019 Miami pick, our 2017 pick (top 14 protected). Or just Knight for Millsap.

Firstly, are we trading for 1 year / $18m or 5 years / $110m of Millsap.

Sources: Hawks aren't ruling out possibility that they could bring back Al Horford. If he decides to stay, ATL has ways to unload salary.

Nevertheless, Horford's contract talks have been ongoing w/ Hawks, sources say. He's been pursuing max deal. Now comes hard choice for him.

It is not about trading Millsap for his market value. The Hawks will never get market value for him now that the entire league knows they have to trade his contract in order to keep Horford. The Hawks are choosing to go forward with a Howard and Horford frontcourt if they can and trading Millsap is the key to that happening. Horford is probably going to make his decision this weekend where to play. Possibly sometime on Saturday. If he goes back to the Hawks, they do not have the luxury of waiting a few months for the best deal for Millsap to come around. They have to unload his contract once Horford commits to them. It is a unique situation. Woj already said that the Hawks have ways to unload salary. They might already have a deal in place with the Suns or someone else contingent upon if Horford re-signs with them. Who knows.

Exactly. Basically you're either paying a hefty price for a one year rental and at best a first round exit from the playoffs and lose him for nothing next year. Or you trade a hefty price then have to give him a 4-5 year deal for over $100m for a guy who needs to play 32+ minutes at a position you just invested two top 10 picks on.

I don't see how either scenario makes any sense.

I'm not saying they won't unload him (though I don't think it makes total sense) but that I think we'd have to give up serious value to get him. Not Knight and Tucker and Chandler or something. We will lose something people will not want to part with. It might be worth it, but I'd hate to give up on any of our lottery picks other than maybe Len in such a deal. Warren could very well be on the table though, especially having just signed Dudley.

If the price to acquire Millsap is anything more than lottery protected picks, Tucker, and/or Knight, then do not make the deal. If the Hawks ask for any one of the Suns core players, hang up the phone. You do not give up parts of your core for a 31 year old player that can leave after one season. That is asinine. Remember, the Hawks need this to happen if Horford wants to re-sign with them. It is not a debate whether they want to give Millsap up or not. They will have to trade him. What team out there is willing to give up lottery picks and/or 18-23 year old players for a one year rental. Idk any team in the league willing to do that. Only a truly desperate team would do something like that.
