Dragic can position all he wants, if the Suns hold onto him, he'd be stupid not to consider a lucrative 5 year deal. It would mean an extra 15-18m.

Still, one would think he could have handled this process better. He said what he said.

When you make a decision rooted in emotion, like Robert Sarver is about to do, you send the message that you have the capacity to let your heart/emotions win out. Not good for business. Not good for anyone.

Isn't Goran doing the same thing here? He's likely hurt himself with this stunt because teams are wary of trading for him now. He's probably less likely to get his wish than if he had just stayed quiet and let the front office handle it.

Lesson to be learned from all of this. You can stockpile "assets" all you want. but you cant do 2 things with them.

a.) hold onto these assets and let them develop egos about being "the guy"
b.) show interest in trading the assets without acting.

We've stockpiled a ton of guys who want their chance to shine in the spotlight.

Goran wanted to be #1
Bledsoe getting #1 money
Isiah wanting to start
Goodwin wanting minutes

none of these guys are happy, and these are the ones who made it public. I cant image Ennis/Bullock/Warren being happy with DNP every day. and the only thing that comes out of this is other teams knowing what's up and lowballing on offers so you can "fix" the issue.

so you'd rather lose him for nothing this summer?

Do you not know how negotiating works? The Suns can give Goran the most money, if they choose to. Caving to a trade demand and letting an asset go for cents on the dollar sends a MASSIVE message to the rest of the league on how Phoenix operates.

Key words being "if they choose to"

It's going to take $100 mill/5 to keep Goran this summer, because Dragic is looking for 80/4 from other teams.

He's not worth 100/5, and I bet you that our FO probably told Duffy that too, which is what may have caused Dragic to basically set the whole thing on fire like he did.

This could also be the Suns only way of trying to generate the slightest shred of leverage in these trade negotiations. Sarver has a reputation for being volatile and stubborn, maybe they are using it to their advantage for once. The Suns are operating from a point of extreme weakness, if teams know they are desperate to trade him, the offers will reflect that.

Or I could be completely wrong...

I think it's half and half. No doubt Bobert is legitimately ticked, but this is probably their best bet at any leverage at this point.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them hold on to Dragic and max him out. Just like when Tucker got a super extreme DUI and they rewarded him with a multi year contract. Dragic demands a trade 2 days before the deadline, throws the organization and front office under the bus, and our owner still wants to keep him. This organization is such a joke.

its reality bro, we couldn't do a S&T with Howard either to Hou so it is what it is and if you're gona keep Dragic to spite his request, he wouldn't feel any obligations to do you guys any favors either.

are you saying it's hopeless??? say it!!

Fair enough, but I'm a Suns fan, not a Dragic fan. What Dragic did was wrong, but compounding the issue by holding onto him because of spite is just dumb. Everyone and their mother knows that Dragic will not be back this summer, that has been made perfectly clear. So instead of cutting our losses, Robert Sarver would rather further damage the PR of HIS franchise. All in the name of some misbegotten sense of what is right.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

HEAT Practice was open to the media, then it suddenly closed. Dragic says he will only sign long-term with MIA, LAL and NYK. Owner bluff??

Trade him to HOU for D-Mo and the NOP pick. Then have Sarver take him out for the best Caesar salad of his life at Ruth's. He'll sign back here in FA.

I have to admit that I love what Tucker brought to the team as a darkhorse. After the DUI that changed and he looked out of shape at the beginning of the season. Talk about horrible timing and luck which is pretty much the Phoenix Suns mantra.
