It's the simple truth, Ayton is not well regarded around the league.sunsbum wrote:This is borderline signature material.WeekapaugGroove wrote:It's just too bad there wasn't at least one GM who liked Ayton as much as some of y'all on here.

Maybe the Ayton fans end up right but this trade shows what people actually paid to make these decisions felt about him.

At the very least Jones has consistently proven he doesn't put much stock in perceived value. I do think Ayton has more value(or at least should have) than what the Suns got for him, but I also think a bought in/excited Nurkic is better than running it back with last years version of Ayton.
I'm glad the move was made before the season and we don't have to worry about a dark cloud of discontent hanging over the team, like when Marion refused to sign for anything less than the max and nixed the KG trade because he wouldn't extend with Boston.

Re: Deandre Ayton news and discussion
The most exciting thing about moving on from DA for me is that when he has a bad game, underwhelming season etc etc I don't have to deal with (or deal with a lot less) a certain percentage of the fanbase not asking WHY he's underwhelmed but who is at fault/to blame for his poor showing.

A trade where nobody's happy is probably a fitting end to all this.

It's too bad Jones didn't like Haliburton like so many here did.
Let's not pretend like James Jones has done some amazing job here. The best thing he ever did from a value perspective was reach for Cam Johnson who in a redraft goes in the exact same spot so it wasn't that amazing. We overpaid for 2 seasons of KD also.
Yes, we got CP3 and Beal in no-brainer type deals but Beal's no trade clause is what landed him here and not some massive GM move.
I would much rather have Mikal right about now, and hell, the rumored Turner and any Pacer role player would be preferable.
I'm not sure many here understand just how much Nurkic absolutely sucks. He should never start here. Not a single game. Eubanks is indisputably better and honestly I'd probably rather have Metu as well.

My comment wasn't about Jones. I don't think Jones handled the Ayton situation well, he should have traded him sooner.AtheJ415 wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:It's the simple truth, Ayton is not well regarded around the league.sunsbum wrote: This is borderline signature material.

My biggest what ifs are was Sabonis trade available or did Indi say no and take the Haliburton deal instead. Was there a sign and trade available last summer.

Re: Deandre Ayton news and discussion
I watch this team for the excitement it can bring. Ayton was a player that never brought me much excitement with his style, effort or demeanor.
Based on the coverage of this trade from the national media (cable, print, podcasts) the rest of the nation yawns at the Blazers getting Ayton. The talk is "BUCKS!!!..DAME!!..Miami lost!..rest of the East!......end of an era in Portland.......................Deandre the number one pick/max contract player traded."

And why do you think the rest of the league didn't want to give up better value for Ayton as a player or Ayton as a contract?
If Ayton played with the heart of Mikal the Suns keep him. If Ayton played with the professionalism and desire of Booker the Suns keep him. If Ayton was drafted number ten and didn't get a max contract the Suns keep him. If Ayton approached close to any of these things the rest of the league would be scrambling to make room for him on their team.

Maybe because ayton's value is the same as complete dog $:&& ??

This isn't Raptors trading VC to Nets for peanuts, Ayton's value is minimal and overpaid. He's proved nothing so far in his career other than he's soft and can't dunk a basketball to save his life.

Re: Deandre Ayton news and discussion
I'm less upset about moving Ayton and more upset about us helping the Bucks. They are now the favorites to win it all and we have nobody to guard Giannis given that it will be almost impossible to provide help with Middleton, Lopez and Lillard on the floor. Giannis will shut KD's old declining ass down but KD (I mean Aaron Gordon was giving KD lots of trouble) will have nothing against Giannis. We're going to get waffle-stomped by the Bucks if we make it past Denver.

I call myself more relieved than happy. Personally I was just over watching him play so relieved I don't have to do that anymore. Also relieved that the potential distraction of 'will he get traded? Is he upset about touches? is gone and not something we're dealing with in March.bigfoot wrote:Mulhollanddrive wrote:A trade where nobody's happy is probably a fitting end to all this.

Jones dont keep you around if you dont wanna be here
But he hasnt been too good about extracting value with the departures .

Yeah he's been consistent with that.Frank Lee wrote:Jones dont keep you around if you dont wanna be here

But hey they have 5 playoff series wins under his tenure as GM. Which is second most of any GM in franchise history after only Gerry Colangelo who was GM for like 30+ years.

If we wanted more than that, we should've moved him for Sabonis when we had the chance.
At the rate he's going, in the smaller role on the Suns, his value was just going to sink further. There absolutely is a cutting of our losses factor in this deal.

He could certainly do better but at the same time, the best time to trade him is when his value is high and I doubt anyone would want to move him then. Earlier in the offseason, I think the most realistic rumors of an offer was from Dallas for Tim Hardaway Jr, McGee and Holmes. We may have even done it if it wasn't for Dallas insisting on us taking back their mistake of overpaying McGee. That set the realistic value of Ayton and imo the Nurk/Allen/Little trade is a better return

Re: Deandre Ayton news and discussion
Id bet behind the closed door Aytons camp asked for an out… and they all gag ordered it till done.
Else, it was an effective passive aggressive move on his part to show such disinterest in joining a team with so much upside talent. Just ask how Gordon how happy he is.
Stay tuned for the leaks as mentioned
