Isbia eating another $25m -- though maybe he saves some money in lux tax by stretching Little. 22m for Little, I think 3m for Liddel
who will fill the roster spot

Wow, amazing move by Ishbia AGAIN.
We now have a roster spot available and there are some interesting names out there available.

Shams made it sound like maybe this is more for the inseason - but man, paying $22m for Little to go away --
We shall see what happens

Not THAT bad though, we/other teams have eaten more than that haha.
Lots more flexibility. I'd be signing another combo forward ie Covington or Nwora or Osman

Re: The Official 2024 Offseason Thread Part 2
Correct me if I'm reading it wrong, but the stretch provision for those done before 1 Sep, will stretch his entire remaining deal ($22m) over 7 years since it's twice the remaining years plus one right? He has 3 years left including this season so double plus 1 would get to 7 which means his $22m becomes just $3.1m a year which is a bit over the vet min. It's not the most onerous and the vet min will continue to grow with the salaries whereas this is locked in at $3m but it does just keep $3m from being made available.
I've never been a big fan of the stretch provision since it's a bit of a stain on the cap sheets for years to come that you can't trade or get someone else to pick it up until it runs out. I personally would've preferred keep him on, looked for another opportunity to move him later and booted someone else like DLee (who I do think is a positive for the team) if we're clearing a roster spot.

It really says something about how bad Little was that we couldn't find any takers for him when he was on a very affordable contract.
Hopefully we're keeping Jalen or someone from free agency that can do a better job at the forward slot for us.

I'm sure we could've incentivised someone to take his contract but it wouldn't have been cheap (probably at least one second rounder imo) and with draft capital relatively low on our side, I think they just took the path of lowest cost.
I just hope we do something good with the roster spot. I think Jalen on the 2 way is fine for now since we have 50 games to evaluate him to see if he's worthy of a full spot and if he's legit, we could always cut DLee down the line.

I’m happy we didn’t spend draft capital to dump. 3m cap hit means nothing for the next few years. And after that 3m won’t mean much with rising cap. Saves Ish a ton of money and we can get some roster flexibility

Couldn't find a good list for some reason - who is still out there that could be intresting (for vet min)?

The luxury tax and stretch could be 80m.
I wonder if that could be used better on staff or resources.

It reduces luxury tax. Instead of $6.75m in the books, it's less than half of that.

Imagine being so rich, paying $6m this year and next will save you $40m

Okoro, Talen Horton-Tucker, Fultz, Osman, Caboclo and a few more that could be nice for a minimum contract.
But reading what Shams said we probably want to stay pat and start the season with an open roster spot. That way we could use our 2-way contracts more minutes and give that official roster spot to any of them.

Okoro and Caboclo yeah. Other guys not so much. Fultz cannot shoot and THT sucks. Osman I guess you'd do worse as a 15th man.
But Okoro could probably get real rotation minutes as he is just a strict upgrade to Okogie. Caboclo looked legit in the Olympics and if he is legit then he'd give us that switchable center we desperately need instead of the lumbering old Plumlee. So that's worth a flyer on too.
I am almost 100% sure our main centers are going to absolutely worked in the playoffs on switches and we don't want to put all our eggs in one basket by depending on Bol even if I do have some faith he could play backup 5 in small ball if for no other reason than he's got long arms and can block guys even if he gets beat.
Also I'd rather have both those guys than Damien Lee fwiw

As I understand it, Okoro is restricted. If he accepted the min from us, the Cavs would match and laugh at his agent for not telling him to just take the QO and enter free agency next year. He'd get paid more now and have a chance at even more next year.
I don't expect any moves at this time. You wait for a possible 2 for 1 trade, a buyout candidate, or sign one of our own 2-way guys.
