Kobe nearly equals that by himself at 25 per year.

What does Tony Parker plus Manu Ginobli cost? I think they both took old man discounts like Duncan, but I'm not sure.

Joe Johnson plus Deron Williams cost way more than KnightBlade

Chris Paul plus whoever?

Wes Matthews plus Damian Lillard will eventually cost more money.

Curry plus Thompson will cost a lot more when Curry signs his next deal.

There are probably other backcourts that I'm not remembering that will be pricier than Suns.

And two years from now, it will be a cheap backcourt...how much will Curry and Thompson make? I'm guessing much more..Wall and Beal? Though I guess Beal would be in 3 years...but since he was a high pick and Wall will have a max, they might be close before Beal gets his 2nd contract.

Brandon Knight isn't a bad player or anything, but once we sign him, guess what, this is the roster for the next 3 to 4 years. We have minimal room for improvements via the following two years of free agency. This signing can potentially bury us in mediocrity depending on who else we sign. Again, if we get Love/Aldridge on a two to four year deal, then this signing is BEAST MODE because we are locked in for a true playoff/contending team.

We will have tons of cap space next year when the cap jumps...most of our guys will be on reasonable deals.

Knight & Bled at $28M/yr or Dragic & Bled at $32M/yr.

@BWgood77 great example in your post that Wall plus Beal is another expensive backcourt. Having Knight and Bled locked up at 14 each for 5 more years each might be a border-line genius move by McD. That is assuming of course they play together at a high level for years to come. If they don't play well together, they will be positive value contracts in a trade somewhere down the road.

I hope the suns make knight the leader and not force bledsoe to become one, because he's not one lol

140 million total to this backcourt on merely potential is very risky. Especially considering one guy has a history with knee issues and didn't get one single offer sheet last summer. The other guy wasn't wanted by the Pistons and Bucks. Hope it works out and these contracts look like steals when the cap goes up. The flip side is ugly and sets the franchise back for a while.

I would say the MVP of the league and his all-star running mate should make more than the 2 non all-star starters the Suns field, yes.

It sickens me to think of Dragic making 18 million per year for 5 years. He's just not that good. Hopefully the Heat lock him up with that money and it impacts their cap flexibility.

Not thrilled but not disappointed. Taking the wait and see approach.

What I like the most about this deal is that it has leaked to mainstream media even before the actual FA period-- locking Knight up just gives the Suns an additional positive pitch to FAs. Here's to hoping for a productive July haul. Let's get it, McD!

bwgood77 wrote:Solid. Glad to get it done already. Nice that he got the same as Bledsoe which means zero animosity between them, though I don't think Knight would have any if he had signed for less...he is more proven than Bledsoe was when we signed him though. Solid move by the FO giving him the same deal though.

Also love that he's not hanging us out to dry by holding us up trying to negotiate with him the entire offseason. This has allowed us to concentrate on the real work (Free agency) and also gives us some confidence in terms of the dollars we have to spend in the market. Knight could've held out, trying to get a better deal, squeeze that extra mil out of us but he didn't. He worked with the FO and came to an understanding early.

Yeah but everyone else is gonna have the same kind of money and I don't think the cap is gonna jump up enough that we can give a max contract next year.

If the Lakers strike out on free agents and role with Clarkson/80yearoldKobe/SwaggyP/Randle/Hill with DAR coming off the bench or even taking over for Kobe, the Lakers will have another horrible season and Philly could still snag a top pick.

We have not won the trade yet.

Even if they add Love (unlikely) or LMA, I still don't see them making the playoffs.

We saved 4M, didn't destroy our cap space for years to come and didn't have to deal with an aging Dragic. That is a no brainer.

I'm not sure if we watch the same sport. Do you know how much money the NBA would make if the Lakers rebuilt their team in Kobe's final season and get to the finals? Highest ratings in NBA history.

The dumbass Kings FO were ready to trade them Cousins within their division BEFORE the draft. Apparently Cousins "....wants to play for the Lakers....". You don't see a pattern here Lukas?

So if we have 13.9 million to spend until Knight resigns (per this article), how do we expect to be able to target the big name free agents like McDonough hinted at in this realgm front page article?

I think he meant Knight was the first FA they were targeting. However they won't sign him until they have spoken with their high level targets because they have his bird rights.

this, getting young players on long term deals now is a great investment with the cap jumping up.

Apparently re-signing an average player for a "reasonable" 70m dollar deal means you won the trade.

IDK, this isn't exactly so cheap... If Bledsoe is at the door i could live with it. Was hoping for a pure PG in near future...
