Re: The #16 and #31 Discussion Thread
If pick #1 is Ayton:
Try to acquire an elite defensive guard. First option would be trade up and take Mikal Bridges. It is very unlikely he slides past both NY and Phi, so this is an unlikely option.
Alternatively use pick 16 on Melton, Thomas, or another high upside defensive guard. I think Shamet should be considered for either pick 16 or 31 based on his size, shooting, and defensive potential as well. I’ve lowered a bit on Shake Milton and Jevon Carter but they’d be great value at 31 for our needs.
If pick #1 is Doncic:
Grab the best available big at 16. My preference in order is Robert Williams, Jontay Porter, then Mitchell Robison. Alternatively trade up for either Wendell Carter or Mo Bamba. Probably Bamba will be unavailable (I don’t think he drops past Chicago), but Carter could drop all the way to the Clippers. Depending on their decision with Jordan, they already have Jordan, Harris, Gallinari, Harrell, and Dekker at the 4/5 position so they probably prefer a guard/wing. They also have back to back picks and might prefer to trade 13 for 16+31.
If Knox slips to us (unlikely, but possible) then I think we just need to take him as BPA no matter who first pick is. I guess we’d trade TJ at that point.

I like a lot of these guards in the second half of the draft. Zhaire Smith, Khyri Thomas, Gary Trent Jr., Shake Milton, Lonnie Walker. I really like either Thomas or Milton.

Wouldn't mind Jalen Brunson with 31.

Re: The #16 and #31 Discussion Thread

A 3&D TOUGH SG with great passing (4.6 Assists as a SG!).
Knocking it out the park at the combine.
#1 in Lane Agility (10.3 seconds)
#3 in Shuttle Run (3.04 seonds)
6th best standing vertical (32.5 inches)
6th best max vertical (40.5 inches)
Its a way more athletic JJ Redick....with better defense and passing skills.
Could be very useful in Igors Pass friendly offense!

Re: The #16 and #31 Discussion Thread
Combine winners so far:
Landry Shamet
Cody Martin
Zhaire Smith - what a surprise
Josh Okogie - same
Hamidou Diallo - damn
Gary Trent Jr - watch out for this guy
Rawle Alkins
Donte DiVincenzo
Melvin Frazier - GREAT FRAME and athleticism - SLEEPER
Khyri Thomas - same but not a sleeper anymore
Grayson Allen
Keita Bates-Diop
But I want to single out two specific guys.
Jalen Brunson - not a leaper at all but had a crazy agility test. Very DBook like. He's a baller
Udoka Azubuike - geez this guy is built like a rock. CRAZY verticality, very similar to Andre Drummond. Cant move laterally tho.
My boy Jontay tanked the combine, he's probably back to the NCAA... it just shows that you dont need athleticism to block shots (!!!!!!!)

I like the idea of Grayson Allen - especially with that 31st pick. The reason I wanted Bell over Davon Reed last year was because as a 2nd rounder - guyslike Bell contribute without the ball. I get Reed got hurt. So, if the Suns do not pick a guy like Allen - pick a guy like Bell or Tony Allen type - guys that are dirtworkers. They play hard, bring energy - make plays without the ball
The 16th pick
either I want the ultimate boom or bust guy - meaning young and raw and needs two years
a college senior that can come in and contribute
or trade
The Suns do not need another young player

Grayson is a decent prospect but I have to admit it would be offputting to have to root for that dbag.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

sign me up for the guy. ainge was a good solid NBA player
there comes a time where Ryan needs to find players that fill a particular role. he doesn't need to keep swinging for fence - after the DOncic/Ayton pick - the core is there. Sure, if you can get Donovan MItchell or Giannis at 16 - that's one thing. At 31- find a player with a skill that has value to a coach like Kokoskov. Granted, I am still not opposed to not swinging for the fences but trying to get a good solid college junior or senior who is more ready to play
and somebody that can shoot the ball and is a nuisance adds value to the team.
NBA is built on a few stars and a lot of role players.

I agree. What this team needs more than anything is a fighter's attitude. That's why I've been so attracted to Smart, and that's also what attracts me to Allen. Get a guy who's out to kick asses in practice and in games.

I want Allen. I think he is a huge prick, but a tough player who can shoot. Can back up Booker.

That might be a bridge too far. I'm agreeing with Gambo and wildcat fans right now. That's hard for me. Now I have to embrace the most punchable face in the world as a back up wing too? Thats a tough sell Kerrsed. Tough sell.

Thanks for separting this thread from the 1st pick thread.
I think Suns should target 3&D guard with 16th pick. Preferably somebody with size to defend both guard positions.
Shai would be great but he may be gone by 16th. Khyri is interesting. He looks like a perfect player next to Booker. It's good that Suns are meeting with him.

Re: The #16 and #31 Discussion Thread
I think the Suns could theoretically use the 29th and 31st picks to move up into the mid-high 20s. There are always teams willing to move down in the draft if they can get multiple their picks and think that their guys could still be on board.jredsaz wrote:IcyVeins wrote:Fo-Real wrote:

To be fair, I didn't think it was reasonable but since they gave me such a hard time in their forum, I said I dare you guys to post the trade on the Suns forum, which I just did instead....
Dinwiddie was 13th in RPM among point guards. He has game and good size. I also like the depth of the draft. After the lottery there are a lot of similarly rated players throughout the first and early second round. It's really going to be draft by preference. But out #31 diminishes the value of #29.

Re: The #16 and #31 Discussion Thread
Not that I necessarily want either one unless we snag one at 59, but wasn't sure where to drop this, for AZ fans...
Former UA wings Rawle Alkins and Allonzo Trier had their best games of the combine on Friday — while playing against each other.
Alkins played with more aggressiveness, collecting 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting, along with six rebounds and five blocks in helping his Team 1 to a 98-66 win over Trier’s Team 4. Trier had 10 points on 3-for-7 shooting, while characteristically getting to the line to hit 4 of 5 free throws. Trier also had two rebounds, one assist and two turnovers.
The two didn’t guard each other, but were on the court often at the same time.
“It wasn’t weird or anything like that,” Trier said. “We’ve competed in practice every day against each other so it was cool. It was good.”

Grayson Allen is a good player and the type of player that gets attention to the Suns and responses from fans.
Suns fans would love him if they played for the team... just like Draymond Green.
Need those players! he's like a smart-a$$ Redick... so thats good... but longer and better athlete.
