Does JJ and Ishbia see something else the other 27 teams that passed on him see that they don't? If we didn't pick him it's likely he falls to the 2nd round unless maybe Boston takes a flier on another defensive wing?

Well, he's still high risk high reward type of player. Him falling to 28 is odd if reports that he did very well in workouts are true. A team like Knicks with two picks could have taken a risk. But they have OG and Mikal now, so quite redundant for them. Even if not a well rounded player it's still good he has one elite skill.

Same question could be asked for Kolek though. Why nobody liked him in 1st round.

Garrick, I like you as a poster, but that's a bad take. Let me ask you a question:

Why did Joker drop into the 2nd round? Why did Giannis last till the 20s-in the bad draft? Why was Kawhi not picked till 25?

Saying whyd he drop is not a good point. Awesome players make it out of the lottery all the time.

I like the enthusiasm from you all but name me one wing in the league that shoots as badly as he does that sees significant minutes. The league today has very little room for guys that can only do 1 thing. Until he develops the ability to at least knock down an open shot, he'll be an end of the bench guy.

A bit wild that you all think he can be a heavy rotational piece right now.

Michael Finley
Shawn Marion
Mikal Bridges
And now
Ryan Dunn

For me these types of players have always been my favorite. I am super hyped about Ryan and believe that he will be a good addition to the Suns.

Lol.

Jalen Suggs made 2nd team all defense and is not by any stretch of the imagination a good shooter.

Done. Very difficult   Next question?

The thing is with the draft, and especially drafts like this one that are pretty shallow and clearly lacking of high end star level talent, most teams get completely caught up in the hype machine and laser focus in on these frequently hyped prospects. And the others focus in hardcore on their specific needs to offset the lack of percieved high ceiling potential.

Lastly, most all of the nba teams picking before us, much like the vast majority of the league have already been stockpiling young very athletic players for their roster or already have defensive options BUT lack top end offensive options on their roster. We are the exact opposite. We have elite offensive options and really no legitimately high end lockdown defensive stoppers. Okogie is solid, but isn't really stopping or locking down anyone.

This is what makes Dunn an ideal fit for us. AND also why each and every draft you have numerous high quality players that slip through the cracks, fall to later ranges in the draft and become epic steals. Dunn can be that for us very possibly!

I think one thing that we have heard is that Ryan is a very hard worker. He also doesn't have any history of troubles. Josh Jackson basically thought he had made it when he got to the NBA and stopped making any effort to improve.

He compares to Issac Okoro, size, athleticism and shooting wise coming out of college.

Ideally, coach Bud utilizes him effectively and he gets a minimum 12-16 minutes a game the entire season. He needs to be working on his jumpshot realistically... like Monday. I suppose he gets a couple of days or the weekend to move to Phoenix, get his physical or whatever rookies need, and then starts working with the development team on fixing his jumper. Probably add a little bulk too.

Calling it now, this guy makes an all defense team by the time his rookie deal is up. Also I think he gets 20mpg+ for us next yr. Minimum.

People were a lot higher on Okoro though as a top top 5 pick ahead of guys like Haliburton, Maxey, Avdija, Vassell, Okongwu and Jalen Smith.

Dunn is considerably better defender. He's basically an elite defensive playmaker at college level. How fast it'll translate to NBA, we will see, but there's no denying he has great understanding and top level reads on D. Okoro was a stereotypical Virginia guy when it comes to defensive end, and imo, not as great of an athlete overall. But let's be real, he'll struggle mightily to find his time on the court with current offensive limitations. Having said that, if he is indeed a hard worker and has that competitive fire, there is no reason for him not to overcome them and turn into legit rotational player. We took a flyer and i can't say i'm mad, given the circumstances.

Tim Legler just compares him to Scottie Pippen coming into the NBA on the defensive end.

Giannis and Jokic were Euro players who weren't scouted as much as collegiate players. Jokic in particular was a surprise to all because no one could predict that a fat and slow center could dominate the league as well as he has.

Kawhi was picked 15th one spot ahead of us, wasn't it Sarver or someone who said that they didn't get a good impression of Kawhi because he was so awkward during interviews and was sweating profusely?
