Wow, what a great deal for the Suns!! Finally, the 36-year-old, injured, immobile, fat, fat, fat center we've been looking for! This is a move the Suns had to make. After our division rival grabbed one of the best big men in the game for essentially nothing, we had to answer. And let's face it, getting Shaq certainly trumps the Warriors' acquisition of Chris Webber.

I don't think the Suns are done dealing yet. There are still some big names out there that could help this team. Now that Banks has been dealt, we need a new backup PG, and who better than GARY PAYTON?! He's available and you know he'd be psyched to come here! Then, for some big-man depth, let's sign SHAWN KEMP! Yes!!!! Payton, Kemp, & Shaq on the same team? OMG SUNS WILL NEVAH LOSE!!!!!!! 82-0 HERE WE COME!!!

But wait: I sense some of you are worried about the future. After all, Amare will now be our only starter under 30. Luckily this franchise has been stockpiling draft picks for years, so the future is very bright. I've heard a lot about Atlanta's draft pick is probably going to be in the top 5, so that should turn into a VERY good player, maybe someone along the lines of Chris Mullin (if only the Warriors hadn't locked him up as GM -- he'd be the PERFECT complement to Kemp & Shaq down low). Don't worry Suns fans, I expect our current core to be able to contend AT LEAST through 2005, and once those draft picks start developing, it's dynasty time!!!!!!!!!!

Cash, normally I try to stay optimistic (or at least more optimistic than you), but ... what you said.

I don't think this trade is as bad as some of you may think IF Miami sends their 1st round pick this year. That pick will translate into a franchise type player and a motivated Shaq could put the Suns over the top in their bid for a championship. I will NEVER underestimate Shaq. Fat, injured, whatever. If his hip isn't as bad as everyone thinks I could see him resting for a few more months and then coming back in very good shape for the stretch. Nothing motivates more than a chance to play with Steve Nash (easy 20 ppg) and a chance at redemtion (after not making the all star team and being written off as old, injured and finished.)

Without the first round pick I think the trade is too risky.

I really can't believe the Suns trade their best defender for Shaq who should be one of the worst defenders on this team

Unless the Suns have another deal in mind, this is going to be a bad bad deal for them.

Maybe Steve Kerr is talking with the Kings already for a possible trade involving Artest?

I hope Shaq fails his physical and forces us to get one of the other three players.

Dalembert's never impressed me. Camby or Okafor would have been nice pickups though. But if Shaq can still step up, Shaq's the best of the lot.

Neither a suns fan or a laker fan, so just from an outside perspective, it seems that Phoenix looses the value swap. Marrion will be good for many more years than Shaq, but if Shaq can step up (and that's a big iff) - this could be a great boost for Shaq's legacy. A shot at 3 championships in 3 cities. I think Shaq will be eager to do all he can, though I'm not sure he's still got it. But I don't know how much you've watched Shaq play. He's a smart player and an underrated passer. I wish you guys luck. I like your suns better than most of the teams in the west, so I hope this works out for you, and as for loosing Marion, Nash only has a few years left anyway so a rebuild in 2-3 years is probably a sound move too. I guess you know most of this already, but this will be fun to see.

Now for the heat - the gay heat. I hope this trade sends them to mediocrity for the next 10 years. :P
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!

As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.

One of the worst deals I've seen since the Baker to Celtics fiasco in the beginning of the decade. Shaq is 36 and can't fit in Phoenix's up tempo attack. The Suns probably believe he'll be effective when the game slows down to a half court tempo, but then that would take Nash and the Suns way out of character. Besides if they play too much half court, there's no way they can compete with the Spurs or Lakers in that tempo.

Getting a pick out of the trade would be nice, but we'd just trade it for Cash anyways. I hate this trade. I really hope Shaq fails the physical.

It's a lottery protected pick, but you're right. It is untradeable.

Anyway, Miami wouldn't send their first rounder(Probably in first 4) this year for Marion.

Can't wait for the summer when Sarver realizes that Shaq is actually quite expensive and we trade Amare alongside 20 future 1st round picks for cap relief :banghead:
How damn incompetent is our management exactly, and the even better question: are they inofficially getting paid by the Lakers management in order to get rid of us even easier?!
This deal makes the Kurt Thomas-trade look even sooo much worse than it already did last summer. Oh, and not to mention we trade Marion for a worse player on a FAR WORSE contract, and don't even get the pick swap with the Heat's pick being unprotected? Also no Wright, Quinn or Cook? Nothing, just Shaq for Marion, seriously?! Oh, right! We also get rid of Banks, who we don't need since we've got at least one further PG on our roster, not to mention he has such a HUGE contract, especially in comaprison to Shaq :banghead:

Guys, I've been following Shaq since his days at Cole H.S. (and mostly LSU). I really think that the Heat sat him on purpose to entertain trade scenarios. The Heat weren't going anywhere but down, and I think they wanted to save him knowing a trade would happen. As far as his productivity goes, sure, it's low compared to his career. But it is still high for a Center in the NBA. Couple that with the fact that no one on the Heat could guard their assignment, causing Shaq to have to foul guards at the rim, it's no wonder he couldn't stay on the floor for big minutes. Now, he comes to you guys with multiple shooters, decent defenders, and better "pieces" that fit around his game, and I think this will end up nicely! I think his hip will be fine, and with Amare and Diaw crashing the boards, he will not have to be the only one under the rim constantly. As far as how in shape he is, ask Riley. He's around 325lbs, and in camp, he was supposedly in the best shape of his career. I'm anxious to see how it works out!!

^ or he could be the answer we are looking for as a rebounding big who can defend C's and keep amare out of foul trouble

In the west, there are better PFs than C's, and Amare now has to guard them all. You don't think he'll get into foul trouble guarding duncan, dirk, pau, boozer just the same?

Why the h*ll would the Bobcats trade Okafor when they have no other PF on the roster who's healthy? Not to mention that team is getting better.

Denver's not giving Camby up as he's having a great season and they just lost Nene.

Would a Dalembert for Marion trade really be fair?
