If I am correct we need to add about 14 Mil in salary minus whatever if anything we agree to sign Alex Len for.

Leagues salary floor 89.1 Mil we currently have 75.0 Mil committed for 17/18

How and for whom should we spend that money?

We're talking about getting out from the big contracts we have. If we can deal away any of Dudley, Chandler, and/or Knight for expiring's, it'll help in the long run.
We can always sign players to one year deals to get to the floor.

And my theory for trading away Knight or Chandler now - if it clears cap space earlier - is that you have it taken care of now so you can plan. Sure, the Suns DON"T need to move Knight now - but if you can - it just helps your long term thinking

I am not sure how good Sam Amico is for news - but Frye to the Suns and especially Chandler to the Cavs - does make sense. The Suns could even do Shumpert/Frye for Chandler - but again, causes a backlog at guard if Knight is still there.

and I don't worry about getting to the salary floor. the Suns could call the Bucks now, December or the deadline and take on Spencer Hawes for a protected second and that would be that

There appears to be something going on in the back rooms. Not sure what it is but I have read of financial cuts at ESPN and other sports outlets. The Rockets are suddenly up for sale. Big men in the league cannot get paid.

Maybe the financial bubble for the league is about to burst. It seems as though the cable TV companies and other outlets are losing revenues due to other ways to buy their products in a cheaper fashion.

Most of the cuts at espn were directly related to hiring WOJ. They were mostly guys that WOJ clashed with and all basketball guys. But make no mistake, people are cutting cable subscriptions, and not just because of espn, but because of all the streaming sites, etc.

I'm not sure how much the tv deal with espn is directly tied to subscriptions and how much is set in stone, but the jump in the cap didn't go up nearly to what people anticipated, and they are afraid it won't go up next year as much either, meaning people are putting the breaks (for the most part on huge long deals), except for the Knicks I guess. Plus, having a C isn't as important, so their values are deflated.

We don't have to get to the floor. Our players would just get extra money if we choose not to sign more players.

It's maddening to me that we still fought to get to the floor last year. Like trading for Mike Scott was really necessary.
I don't get why we don't just give the players the extra pay. There has to be something more to it than we know

The NBA change with uniforms where you don't have "Home" and "Away" - just pick from four and the home team gets to pick so the road team needs to be ready

just a guess..

Dave King just tweeted Ryan and Sarver will be there - maybe Ryan is getting an extension

Do they usually do press conferences for GM extensions? Maybe McD got his extension finally.

Me too - but I doubt its "player related" - that would have been news

Even signing Len would have been "news" already reported

It's just a little accounting/cap trick. With Scott once they waived him they only paid the prorated portion of what was left on his contract (like 30 games or so) while his whole yearly salary counts against getting to the salary floor. So that alone saved Sarver a little cash and I also think the hawks paid the suns some cash in that deal because they were doing it to get under the lux tax.

Wow... I do not know if that are good news or bad news.

I would prefer to extend McD after the season if our team improves and we see the light at the end of the tunnel.

What if this young roster regress (even more) this next season? It is a real possibility.

Scott Bordow?

That would be a wise move. You have the team on the right path. I think you have the right guy in place. Lets see this out

What young player has regressed at all, much less with possibility of regressing even more..?

With the pessimistic view of some fans on this board, regressing even more should mean not winning a game. :)

Ummm...Len? Ummm...Knight?
And Chriss can be another Morris if he does not improve his attitude. Hopefully he is not.

What I want to say it is that I prefer to extend McD AFTER the season, to watch if there is progress.

If it is an extension, knowing Sarver, it's probably a 1 year extension. It just seems the GM's contract extension would be a really strange reason to have a press conference.

I'm excited if it's McDonough. Means he'll be allowed to see this through. It means Sarver trusts his youth process and it means we won't hire another GM who will make it his job to make a splashy move just for the sake of it.
Good times!
