He said the same thing the exact same thing straight after the lottery.

All it means is if Anthony Davis becomes available he'll look at it.

Yeah, I heard that interview. It was normal generic standard McD stuff.

I hope he doesn't trade the #1 pick for KAT just because Booker and him are buddies. If Thibs can't make him a plus defender that's not good. Though reading what I'm typing seems strange that I wouldn't want to "draft" KAT with 3 years pro experience this year so maybe I'm not thinking clearly and am way too high on these picks.

For KAT.

Booker/KAT would be too good to be true. They're best friends and two of the best young players in the game.

KAT is worth the godfather offer it will take to get him.

You would trade the #1 pick for KAT who can't play D

KAT has one more year of control - Ayton has four more years of control

I think that needs to be reviewed. KAT has been in the league three years, played under Thibs and his defense is not good. I am fine with Ayton over KAT.

And other than the "control" part...the cost control....4 more years of rookie contract..

christ, i wish i had more confidence in this front office not to screw this up. Just draft Ayton or Doncic and go with it...

I would trade the #1 pick for KAT in a second.

correct - cost control- KAT gets a big raise after this year.

but the big thing, if he hasn't improved too much on defense under Thibs - not sure he will in Phoenix. Also seems like Ayton has the potential to be better on defense. Maybe I am wrong but Ayton looks to be a better athlete, feet, movement.

I won't be surprised if he does. If there is a better way to put your money where your mouth is when you say "We will add young guys with experience and can't add a bunch of rookies" then trading the #1 pick for KAT is clearly doing that.

I wonder how the fanbase would react.

You're silly to discount the buddy factor.

Look, the NBA is a boys club. Booker and Towns want to play together and everyone knows it. Getting those two as franchise cornerstones immediately makes Phoenix an attractive destination for any player under 24. Booker/Towns are two of the "coolest" young players in the league.

Right now we're a second-rate franchise. The only way we're ever going to win a championship is if we change that conversation. Booker/Towns would be immediate ambassadors for this city and the Phoenix Suns brand. You just can't put a price on that.

I'm not discounting it. I think there is a pretty decent chance McD would do it. I don't know if Thibs would want a rookie though. He might try for another package for a solid player. Not sure who might be on the block for him though. I need to hear a little bit more context on that though. Guys like KAT rarely get traded. I can't remember the last clear cut #1 pick who had really put up numbers in his first few years getting traded while on rookie contract. Of course Wiggins was traded but that was before he played.

Hot take: I think Thibs kind of sucks as a coach and the game has passed him by.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

I would lose my MF mind. KAT is good, but he isn't AD good. I like Ayton's potential over KAT's potential. I know KAT is putting in work and closer to his potetial and is establish and all, and more of a sure thing than Ayton right now, but I'm just not enthralled with KAT. AD yes, KAT no!

Good grief. Ayton over KAT all day every day. No way. AD, I would consider it, but even he has an injury history that would bother me. Ayton has no health issues at all. Just make the pick. Yikes. Don't try to get cute.

there's also something to be said for homegrown talent and players that you drafted and cultivated rather than players that got established elsewhere and then they decided for whatever reason to move on from

As much as I love Ayton, I would trade the #1 pick for KAT in a heartbeat.

I’d only trade the first pick for AD or Giannis. Curry too maybe. McD is just keeping all options open, it benefits him to have other teams approaching with offers.

Don’t discount the idea that the Clippers will be moving on from Pat Beverly. I know a lot of people here have been clamoring for him. They need to avoid the repeater tax and will have to make difficult roster decisions and I think Beverly might be the odd man out and could be had for a future 2nd.

KAT is a distraction. We are really hungry I know. But push the burger aside. The steak is coming in a few minutes.
