Outside of the first few picks the draft is pretty much a crap shoot and not very good players left. We are in round 9 of premier and there are still better players left there and it feels like it's hard to choose because there isn't really anyone that great. Though I did get Desmond Bane in the 4th round last year. I was shocked he wasn't protected and then I almost took him in the 2nd round and then the 3rd but kept thinking maybe people are not realizing he is there or just don't think he is that good.
Based off of Bane's rookie stats, he wasn't necessarily a lock to keep. I don't think anyone predicted he'd go from averaging 9.2 points points per game to doubling it while remaining efficient, and also being able to lock defenders up. Typically I assume players will have a sophomore slump and expected Bane to shoot a lot more poorly from 3 after getting more scouting, but the dude has put in the work.
You seem to have a lot of swiss army knife like players on your roster with Smart, Bane, Middleton, Jrue, Murray. It's funny because I feel like all of those players you thoroughly enjoy their game too. I'd say for myself, I do draft based on who I enjoy watching too.
Actually I loved Smart in college but never was a fantasy fan of his. But it's hard to deny having all those steals with him and Murray. I really can't even remember how I ended up with Murray.
I only ended up with Smart because I got him in a Westbrook/Gobert for Jokic/Smart trade I couldn't pass up....and I love Jokic.
I've had Middleton since the beginning. I remember he was out that season or at least most of it and I got him really late knowing it's dynasty and he's worth it long haul.
It's amazing in the original draft no one could believe I got Russell Westbrook at 8...he had been near the top in fantasy for a few years......but the main amazing thing is how far he has dropped. I honestly don't remember seeing a player go from so feared and popular/MVP type to a player no one wanted. Maybe he shouldn't be MVP....but I read an old piece from Tjarks after he died about Russ vs CP3 in that big OKC/Clips 2nd round series back in the day, and it was more about Paul, how he is SO much more high IQ and a better pure PG than Westbrook, but he just wasn't physically big enough or athletic enough to really compete with him, so Westbrook created havoc.
Now I'd like to remember how I got Murray. I probably drafted him one year thinking he was ready to break out. I haven't made many trades other than that big one and one last year trading Killian Hayes for Brook Lopez because I desperately needed blocks and knew he'd hit 3s, was a decent FT shooter, etc.
