But in order to get good you have to have good players. Where or when does that start? Lance is a SF, so trowing Bookers name out there has no impact. Booker is a SG and a SG only. Lance wouldnt take any minutes from him. Would he take them from Warren? He sure would, but then again i think we could get away with giving Warren more minutes at PF and running a small ball line-up of:
Bledose/Booker/Stephenson/Warren/Len.
I just feel like we need defenders in the starting line-up. We also need guys who have that competitive spirit. Sure guys can be competitive, but im talking about guys that get pissed when you score on them and take it personally where they are either going to take it right back at you or block the s**t out of your next shot. Thats Stephenson. Hard nose defender that seems like he is willing to do whatever it takes to win. Thats the kind of players im after. I want that Kobe attitude. Steven Addams has it. Draymond Green has it. They dont mope, they take it as an insult as do something about it. Thats Stephenson.
The guy is talented. No question about it. However, he literally does not move the needle. In his best season, he was still only the 20th best SF in the league. The past two seasons, despite being on playoff teams, he's done nothing but put up empty stats. I watched about a few dozen Memphis/LAC games these past two seasons and he has not impressed me one bit.
Season RK NAME TEAM GP MPG ORPM DRPM RPM
2015-16 72 Lance Stephenson LAC/MEM 69 19.9 -1.25 -1.58 -2.83
2014-15 69 Lance Stephenson CHA 61 25.8 -4.6 -0.22 -4.82
2013-14 20 Lance Stephenson IND 78 35.3 0.9 0.14 1.04
For every good thing he does, he cancels it out with stupidty and showboating. The guy isn't necessarily a selfish player, he's just doesn't play well in a team. The guy is like the wing version of Javale McGee, supremely talented but his affect on the game ends up being neutral at best. I'll give him this though, he did have a decent season with Memphis after the trade averaging close around 19/6/4 per36. But I prefer high bball IQ guys on this team.
