Re: Official Trade Thread: Part 3
McGee has higher ceiling than Gortat.
Gortats best? We are probably seeing it now.. A 13-15ppg 9-10rpg big man with an elite play making guard. He isn't an all star but he is also far from being a scrub, he is very good and reliable center. But won't be excellent at either end of the court night in and night out.
But McGee has potential to "get it" and be Chandler like defensively in the future, he is long, athletic, explosive and has great length.
Can really see him pull 20 rebound 5 block games, dominant at that end, and contribute 10-15 points also.
Gortat is solid.. 10/10 most nights... And occasional rare 20 point 15 rebound games.
A smarter McGee definitely > Gortat basically.

Gortat over McGee? Because Nash has inflated his value so much that he went from a very good backup center, to an untouchable piece?
And.... I back up 1UPZ's arguement.... for probably the first time ever....

Re: Official Trade Thread: Part 3
I think we're overblowing the Gortat vs McGee thing here. I think Gortat > McGee right now. But McGee is 24 with a decent ceiling. In a youth movement I figure Gortat is expendable for the right price though. Denver also has some young big men already as well.
Btw McGee has proven to be a serviceable center before the playoffs, in Washington. He's a very good player, he just has a bad rap because he makes a boneheaded play every now and then. I've been a fan of his since Washington. Don't compare him to DeAndre Jordan either. He's leagues beyond him already. A lot of people talk like they've seen him play, saying he's 1) Dumb and 2) worse than DAJ. Well, he's neither of those two, and whoever says either of those really hasn't watched him.

McGee , no thanks.
So put the guy in a game and tell him he can't dunk he would have a total of 2 points if he played all 48 minutes.
Side note Sarver wants to pay Nash 20 million over 2 years. Sarver severely over estimates Nash's allure. I love Steve and all but if I have a choice over winning or being below average just to have a future hall of famer, I choose winning. He just wants Nash around to ensure tickets are still bought while he doesn't have to spend money.
Personally Barkley was more important to the suns then Nash is but I knew when it was time to move on. Barkley to me was more fun to watch and more dominate then Nash. But that's just my opinion. In the 90s the team wasn't getting any better and I knew it was time for Barkley to leave. Shoot even when Majerle got traded it was to better the team. Majerle was just as popular as Nash in the 90s. But there can a time to try and better the team.
It's time to shake hands with Steve, give him a hug and send him on his way.

Re: Official Trade Thread: Part 3
With Mcgee probably about to ask for a strait ignorant contract, I could see Denver hesitant at paying him that kind of money. Gortat is a really good center, but as has been said, dosent possess the ability to be an elite center, and Mcgee dose have that ability. If Mcgee matures he has the potential to be an absolute BEAST there is no doubt he has the potential.
That being said, HELL YES!!! I would trade Gortat for Mcgee. The guy has the copetitive spirit to be a special player, he just needs to grow up, and he is very young so he has plenty of time. The franchise that helps him grow up will reep the benifits for a long time to come. He would be an awsome building block.
Speaking of growing up and getting a new start, when the hell is Lance Stephenson going to be either used or cut loose in Indy???? Again, all the talent in the world, brain keeps him off the court.

Now evaluate Shaq on the same flawness-ness.
So make up a rule or parameter that hinders the strength of a player... and then say...
See... I'm right.
Why not get McGee AND keep theGORTAT ? .
I'd bet TheG can guard most PFs effectively. And present some troubles on the 'O' end.

Don't worry about it. Suns FO wouldn't dream of that, nor would any other team, especially at that price. Good thing some of these people aren't in the front office!
McGee is the 16th most efficient center this season. Gortat is 4th.

I didn't really want to bring race into it, but sometimes I wonder if Gortat was black with a little bit more muscle (all else being equal) if people would be so eager to get rid of the 4th most efficient center in the league after breaking out in his first year as a starter (meaning he still has a lot of upside).
McGee has started for longer than that.
And what's with everyone wanting to bring in the knuckleheads of the league? McGee, Tyreke, Beasley?

Funny thing is, the Suns won as many games the four years before Barkley came then they did in Barkley's first four years here. And we also went to the WCF twice the four years before he came and only went that far once after he came (of course, we did actually make it to the finals once with him too.)
Not trying to downplay Barkley's importance. I just wanted to point out that fact because I think sometimes people downplay KJ's importance to that team. Of course, KJ's worst year was his first year with Barkley because they didn't mesh particularly well because of Barkley's iso, slow it down, dribble slowly with back to the basket technique. (KJ had to adjust a bit similar to how Nash had to adjust when Shaq came.)

Like it or not, I think character issues, attitudes, and BBIQ will come into play with any acquisition. Look at our recent departures... Dragic and posse, his whoops I cut my foot story, Diaw was a party dog documented, Barbososo became disgruntled, unhappy and pouted out on his exit interview, Marion was whining publicly about respect, even JRich had his run in with poor judgment. Clark was disengaged mentally and downplayed verbally the importance of summer league. Stat just got too big for britches.
The ego of the professional millionaire athlete is often their own bus ticket out of phnx. It must be hell for some of these guys to playing with the most humble mvp superstar there is.

Personally, I think it would much more logical to do a trade with a team for an extra pick in the first round and just take tony wroten,as his skillset is said to be very similiar to that of tyreke evans.
Same with meyers leonard in regards to being a mobile and fluidly athletic 7'1 big projected to be available around the middle of the first round! So we can basically get guys with very similiar skillsets, who are still athletic and talented, but on far cheaper rookie deals.
If we are truly intent on keeping gortat, Then it just seems to me that whoever we acquire in a trade wether in the draft or free agency would really need to be athletic defensively and serve as a compliment to gortats' style of play!

Twas sarcastic in intent.Btw, people want to bring in knuckleheads because they appear to have diminished value, yet are still young and have a decent ceiling. I don't say bring 'em all in...but you gotta be crazy if you don't sign one of these guys for the right price.

I dont want to sell Gortat short...
But he has the benefit of playing within a HIGH chemistry team in the Suns... and he is WELL utilized by the system and Nash.
McGee has NOT the same benefit until he was traded to Nuggets.
And so far he has played well.
I truelly believe McGee's efficiency will be similar to Gortat given the team and system that the Suns have.
McGee is more aggressive to the rim, imagine Nash's accurate passes to him... probably 3-4 dunks a game.
Defensively, McGee also tend to have that "extra" spring on his legs that Gortat doesnt have.... McGee challenges more shots.....
And the higher ceiling thing.... yes McGee's ceiling is high enough to be a very very good center.
Again, Gortat is good and very reliable, but thats it.... IMO we are seeing him at his best...
The McGee supporters here are merely saying that McGee has higher potential to be BETTER than Gortat given that he matures up, gets the same team around him as Gortat currently/previously does.

Re: Official Trade Thread: Part 3
I look at McGee in the same vein that i looked at Bynum. The kid has a nice skillset and plenty of potential, but needs to mature. Once he does, he will be a force to be reckoned with in the league. Bigs take longer to develop, and i think Washington made a big mistake giving up on him when they did.
With that said, i really like his aggressiveness. I honestly think McGee thinks he can block every shot. I give him alot of credit for trying.

Watching this Nuggets lakers you can see Mcgee is about 10 years away from reaching his potential. I dont know about you I dont have that kind of time to wait. BBIQ/intelligence is not an area of strength for him.

McGee should never be isolation down low against Gasol or Bynum though.
His length, defense made Bynum look normal... Put him under a Popovic discipline system and watch him be DPOY candidate.

If J.R. Smith stays in New York (player option) it might open up a sign&trade possibility for Nash. Something like Douglas+Smith+Fields (s&t @ 3million) for Nash.
We would to have find a third team for Smith, that can give us another young piece or a pick (Houston/Marcus Morris, Indiana/Darren Collison?)

Ok let's keep it simple. Boston is a center away from being the 2nd best team in the East. They have two 1st round picks this year. Trade Gortat for the TPE and both picks giving us 3 this year and a likely top 5 pick next with 2 max slots open for 2013 should it come to that. KG and Allen sign 2 year deals and they make another run.
