[Stein] "If no trade materializes, Dragic would head to free agency seeking a four-year max from Lakers or Knicks that could reach $80 million range"

Let's not act like money isn't a huge factor here.

Situation sucks all around.

Can we all agree that paying Dragic almost 20 million a year for 5 years would hurt us more than it would help us? This is a blessing in disguise.

Give that money to 22 year old Tobias Harris instead :D

It sucks because the Suns are probably the only team that Goran had a shot at getting his number retired by. He's giving up some of his legacy.

Best trade partners remain Sacramento and Indiana.
Indiana looks iffy because they play another brand of bb that might not fit well with Goran, but they clearly need the talent and they might change some things next season, they can offer their 1st this season, Solomon Hill and expirings.
Sacramento can offer their 1st in 2017, Stauskas, Williams or Thompson and McCallum.

NY has nothing, Hardaway is crap and the first 1st they can trade is 2018, LA has Hill, Sacre, Black, Kelly, Clarkson and Rockets 1st, they are not trading Randle or changing the protection of their pick.
It makes no sense to any of those two teams to increase their chances of getting a worse pcik by trading for Dragic, when they are at the top of his list and they can lure him with an 80m$ max this summer, not gonna happen.

Houston wants him, but wants Dragic to do some things that Goran doesnt want to, he wants the Harden role, and he is not going to get it, they have a lot of assets, but I dont think they are a viable option.

Miami has nothing, first 1st they can trade is 2017, and the only prospect they have is Whiteside, who is a UFA in 2016.

I will go with Sacramento probably if I am Phoenix, they seem the most desperate team, and Dragic might commit there because they can actually offer him the main role as the general of the team and a system that fits him with Karl there.

Thompson, Williams, Stauskas, Sacto 2017 1st for Goran&Zoran and Plumlee.
With Green and McCallum going to another team and getting you a 1st in the process.

That kind of works.

Remember it is a business.

Goran and his agent have done this smartly. Goran will get a big payday next year and possibly be in a big city with large endorsement opportunities. Can't fault that.

The Suns front office has played this smartly too. They knew they would have problems keeping Goran and Bledsoe together. Honestly there was a prospect of losing both of them if Bledsoe took the qualifying offer. Signing IT and drafting Ennis makes sense in that case. three to four years from now should be the Suns prime window of opportunity. Does it make sense to have a 33 year-old marginal defender signed for $21M-$24M. We'd be in the Brooklyn Nets shoes (Joe Johnson, Deron Williams).

I think Boston makes a lot of sense. They have the assets to swing for Dragic and Harris and still have draft picks left over.

Dragic-Smart-Harris-Olynyk-Zeller is a top 5 team in the east.

Dragic -> Detroit
1.round pick -> Suns
Some other team take Jennings and Detroit sign Dragic in summer.

His legacy is already written in stone. Best Slovenian to play in the NBA. He pays 50% tax in Slovenia. Don't blame him for looking for a big payday.

I'm with you there, except I don't see the need to move Miles. I like him off the bench.

Dragic has told Phoenix he wants to be a starting point guard. That won't happen with Bledsoe here so very likely he is going to be dealt.

I'd rather move Thomas, Tucker, Morris, Morris. They'll earn 2 All-Star salaries between them for the next 3 years.

But sources told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne that the Suns, after fielding the Lakers' pitch for Dragic late last week, countered by offering Thomas to L.A. ‎ESPN.com reported over the weekend that the Suns were actively trying to deal Thomas in hopes of reducing their backcourt logjam and appeasing Dragic, but sources say that the Lakers quickly rebuffed the Thomas proposal, determined to maintain as much salary-cap flexibility as possible to chase the likes of Dragic, Marc Gasol and Rajon Rondo in free agency this summer.

Representatives for Goran Dragic have told the Suns that the All-NBA guard does not plan to re-sign with them this summer.
If the Lakers feel they have the inside track to Dragic in free agency, they could pull out of the current trade hunt and simply wait for July, when they could offer a four-year deal estimated in the $80 million range. Another potential complication for the Lakers is that they will forfeit their 2015 first-round pick to the Suns if it falls out of the top five of the lottery as part of the Steve Nash trade in 2012. The Lakers' likely improvement if they acquired Dragic this week would thus endanger their chances of holding on to that pick, which team officials regard as an essential piece to L.A.'s rebuilding efforts around Kobe Bryant.

Sources told Shelburne that the Suns are prepared to discuss a Dragic deal with the Lakers this week if L.A. is willing to remove the top-five protection on that draft pick. The Lakers, sources said, also rejected that proposal.

I have not seen Utah mentioned in any trade talks. I know they are not a big market but they have a need and some assets we could use. Why not Kanter and their first rounder this year?

I don't know why people are surprised at Goran wanting out. IMO it has been obvious all season. He has not been the same player as last season. I believe it is due to a lot of things, not just Thomas and Bledsoe. I don't think he liked us being concerned about his time spent with his national team. His body language and effort have been suspect at best the entire season. While his numbers may be close to last year his play has been very disappointing. On most nights he disappears at winning time, last 5 minutes of the game.

Wish him well, but not surprised at all.

Bledsoe at $70 mil seems to be a bargain compared to Dragic at $100 mil

Despite Dragic's looming free agency, Suns seem willing to roll the dice and hope a five-year deal this summer is too much to pass up.
