How can anyone say Kevin Love doesn't fit what the Suns do when our starting power forward is Channing Frye?

30 year old Frye is just a better fit than a 25 year old, elite-rebounding, playmaking and post-skilled version of Frye who can ignite the break with ridiculous outlet passing strength and get to the line 8+ times a game...s

I think letsgosuns is overvaluing athlecism. Especially on a team that allready has a ton of it.
I like our young guys a lot, so I d like to sign Love more than trade our young guys for him, but if you have a chance to get a top 10 player (and a big guy to boot) for some rookies and not too high draft picks you do it.
If you get Love, you dont have enough minutes for Frye, Len, Plumlee, Markieff plus at least one rookie out of our 4-6 first round picks this year and next will likely be a big.

I think if the Suns get Love, one of Channing Frye or Markieff Morris is gone, maybe even both. I also agree about signing him in the offseason rather than trading for him. The Suns really have so many options on what they can do. This Suns team has overachieved so much and I think it would be wise to let them grow together. However, I understand why people want Love. His numbers are ridiculous. He averages and puts up some of the best numbers the league has seen in a long time. Yet when I watch him, I keep thinking, this guy shoots so many threes for a power forward. I want a power forward that stays inside and pounds the paint. He is also a not known as a good defender. Every single team that wins the championship is always a premier defensive team, if not the best in the league.
The Suns have historically had great scoring power forwards and they have never won a title. I truly wish the Suns would field a team that played defense like the Heat, Spurs, or Bulls. When your defense is great, you always give yourself a chance to win. Teams follow their leaders, and if the leader is not a great defender, the team is usually not a great defensive team.
Look at these stats about the champions from 2002-2012. http://www.sportingcharts.com/articles/ ... pions.aspx Aside from the 2006 Heat, every team that won the championship during those years was top 7 in the league in defensive efficiency, and eight of the ten teams were top 5. The 2005-2010 Suns were either at the top or near the top in offensive efficiency, yet I do not remember them ever being a top defensive team. So it is not a coincidence that they never made the finals, even though their offense was unstoppable. There is no substitute for great defense. Just look at Paul Coro's article for today. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/ar ... ation.html Does Kevin Love take the Suns to the next level defensively? I highly doubt it. Maybe he makes them better offensively, but the Suns have already been doing that for their entire existence. It really is time to turn themselves into a top 5 defensive team. I want to see that happen, and I am not sure that Kevin Love is the guy who can take them there.

Re: 2014 Official FA Thread
Ya Kevin Love doesn't fit because he's not athletic even though he throws the best outlet passes in the league to start breaks for a team that likes to run like hell. And he's a rebounding machine but we've always been blessed with amazing rebounding especially in the SSOL era which helped us win all those titles so whatever.
Ya bro he doesn't fit here bro.

No problem whatsoever, although I really value Frye and am also aware of what Kieff brings to the table, even if I deem him (and his brother) as the prefered pieces to move, for a various reasons that are beyond this point.
Absolutely. Any time you can get one of the top performers in the league 'for free', it's better than spending assets, but there are too many factors and the nature of the salary cap is not exactly forgiving when you don't take advantage of an opportunity. To spend big time, for instance, although as we all know, sometimes it is better to just do nothing, ot at least nothing big.letsgosuns wrote:I also agree about signing him in the offseason rather than trading for him.
letsgosuns wrote:This Suns team has overachieved so much and I think it would be wise to let them grow together
The thing is that I can't see much more growth remaining. Many of our players are performing at a level never seen or expected before, and one has to wonder how much better they can get. Additional rookies doesn't really apply here, at least in my opinion. Diminishing returns of sorts, given the amount of parts we are talking about.
letsgosuns wrote:The Suns have historically had great scoring power forwards and they have never won a title.
And this is how we get to the real stuff.
If you are thinking of Amare Stoudemire, I counter by pointing how mediocre of a rebounder he was. Love is elite not only at scoring, also on the boards. That makes him at least 2/3 of an ideal player, whereas Amare was just 1/3. Colossal difference.
If you are thinking about Charles Barkley, I can see it. Still, with the right supporting cast, he was able to take his team to the finals, losing only to the GOAT. Love is no Barkley, but I hope you get my point.
If you can add him to this team while providing him a bodyguard, like what PLums could become, or Len, I think you have taken care of the biggest issue regarding Kevin Love, and in my opinion, I think you become a contender.
I know I'd kill to see things unfolding like this.

I'm from germany and have a question. Do you guys think your GM is going to extend PJ Tuckers contract and if yes, what would you guys pay him per year?

I'd be extremely pleased with anything under 4M per, but at this point there is no telling what will happen. He is a keeper in my opinion. His minutes or starting capacity don't need to stay the same, of course.

letsgosuns - R_W has answered your post for me it seems.
Only thing to add for me that not only Plums or Len could become that defensive/bodyguard type of big guy, but we could possibly draft one of those even with our Indy pick if McD is as good as advertised and we have a bit of luck.

Ya know, its not too late to add a player this yr... ala TimTom... a seasoned big man could be very beneficial. Marcus Camby will play this yr. I dont see too many others ... Big Baby ? But Camby is a savy shot blocking ancient warrior. Granted, papa time is on him, and he lives in Houston. Might be worth a look see. Any others out there? And please, no 'Len needs the minutes' crap. Len is going to get them.... next yr... and the next
Think how this team would be if JONeal would have stuck around.

Do we have the roster space for him? I wouldn't mind grabbing him if he's healthy. Even if he doesn't play much, hopefully he could tutor our bigs in the way of the blocked shot.
SHAZAM!
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

We don't have the roster space for anyone. We have 15 and would have to cut someone to add a bought out player.

Just cut Okafor who isn't going to play anyway, not that it would be a problem cutting one of the end of bench guys if it came to that.
I'd take a flyer on Marvin Williams if he gets bought out, but I doubt he does.

We can't do that. Has to be on our team for us to get that $5.8Mil check from the insurance at the end of the season.

I know it'll never happen but man, Chris Bosh would be the perfect addition to our team.

Agreed. A big man that can actually score, rebound AND play solid defense. Plus he's a great locker room guy and doesn't complain about touches.
Can knock down jumpers to stretch the floor as well.

Where do you think he will eventually end up? We will not be able to get him via trade, but I'm not sure about '15 free agency. Lakers would be the best guess here but let's say we are an even better team than this year with maybe a second round appearance. Who knows.
Still if the Bulls amnesty him, I'd go after Boozer this offseason as a one year rental and see what I can do in the '15 offseason. There aren't any free agents out there worth a long term contract (besides the big boys obviously).
