I'm cautiously optimistic. A couple moves and this team can be fun competitive. But as a suns fan there's always this underlying fear they do something incredibly dumb that sets them back years. And the history of teams that are bad and desperate isn't great.stoo wrote:i can't wait to see what will eventually happen with team roster next season

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Agreed. I just hope they do not panic and do something really bad. A few posts earlier I mentioned Collison and Aminu. Getting those two probably means trading Warren or Jackson and maybe trading back in 1st round that would get enough cap space for two players, I think with an upgrade at PG, letting Tyler go back to bench and a better 4, I see a much better team

I'm tentatively excited about this summer, the draft and especially free agency. But still horrified by the idea of the front office possibly blowing the cap space on a player like Rozier, Or Rozier himself.

Re: Season speculation, free agency, and trade ideas: #ValleyBoyz rise up
Oubre playing really well lately has earned him a bigger payday, but that’s why having his bird rights is so important. Once he outplayed his cap hold value (about 9m) it doesn’t matter as much to pay more than that because we’ll be going over the salary cap anyway. I have totally reversed my stance on him since he came here, and believe he should definitely be retained. I do have some worries that this is a contract year aberration, but not enough to let him go. To me his true value is around 12m - he’s a starter on a bad team but an excellent rotation player on a good team. We might have to overpay, but as long as he doesn’t sign an offer sheet right away and he gives us time to make other moves it will be fine.
The big question everyone has it what happens with Josh/Warren when Oubre is given a new contract. Well, Bridges and Oubre have set themselves apart as the two best players to put around Booker/Ayton long term. I think this is where consolidation of assets comes into play and we do a 3 for 1 type of trade to bring in Jrue/Conley/Gordon/to a lesser extent Blake. I don’t mind trading Warren because he actually has value to other teams that we can use to upgrade the 1 or 4. Josh has very little value in a trade, but he hurts us so much on the court that we have to consider moving him too.
Last, using the Milwaukee pick in a trade this summer is going to be important because the longer we keep it the less value it has until we’re left taking a prospect at pick 29 that we end up waiving in 2 years. If our favorite options are gone, I try to trade Warren/Johnson/Mil Pick/our 2nd for Conley. He’s not the type of player who is going to command a young starter and a lottery pick in a trade. Johnson seems like someone Memphis would value highly and Warren is a great fit next to Jaren Jackson. I think both sides would see value here.

We missed him this game. He's a pretty good 3&D guy. I love his energy and sneaky backdoor cuts. I can see why they call him "Meth Curry". LOL
Tyler just doesn't turn the ball over much either which makes him perfect next to Booker. Those 21 TOs hurt against the Rockets.

Yeah, I expect something dumb, but hope for better. I still think we just need some continuity with a couple additions. Maybe our pick, one fairly big impact vet, and then maybe a smaller impact vet, and bring most of the players under contract next year back.

Melton and Tyler are going to be our PGs for next season. No need to chase one in FA ... we need a dirt working PF.
Johnson/Melton
Booker/Jackson
Oubre/Bridges
PF/Warren
Ayton/Holmes
Johnson/Melton
Booker/Jackson
Oubre/Bridges
PF/Warren
Ayton/Holmes

I'd love Conley but I don't think that's enough for them. Could be though. They did just sign Kyle Anderson to a 4 year deal last summer though, but it's a pretty good deal. Might depend on if they want to trade him at all. If their pick conveys they may want to keep him.
Regarding Oubre...I agree on reversing stance though to me the major reason is he surprisingly has what it seems we have been looking for all along in a vet, kind of bringing the group together and keeping guys positive and motivated...and he has a great attitude and is just likable, wants to be here, etc...and his play has improved some.
Though I guess Tyler Johnson was even a bigger factor in this regard because even after 30 games with Kelly, Booker was talking about how it's the worst it's been..guys not being on the same page, etc....and then 5 games later it's the best it's been since he's been here.
I think this team, even with no changes other than a draft pick, and an offseason for guys to work, would be drastically better next year with Ayton and Bridges getting an offseason to work now that they know what it takes. Provided that pick was Zion or Clarke. I will just throw that in there that I think a defensive PF is a big need and that Tyler could start and Melton/Okobo would both be much further along as backups and maybe one emerges as starting quality.
Of course I want to add a FA PG or PG in trade and I've always said Conley would be perfect for this group, but Tyler actually already provides some of what Conley does...and I am extremely impressed with his 4/1 ast/to ratio.
I do really hope at PG we get someone who really takes care of the ball and is a shooting threat...and hopefully decent to really good on defense. So obviously Jrue, Conley and to a lesser extent, Collison, come to mind.

Wanting to keep Tyler unless a Jrue trade and need the salary - I think Collison and either Kleber or Aminu would be solid additions. For the math to work , one of Jackson Warren or the FRP would need to be moved I think.
I also think Igor will not be fired . Cannot start with a new coach again . I know Snyder and Gentry are his guys but they are right, patience and the improvement is showing

I don't think he should be fired, but no idea...with Walton probably being available I could see Sarver make that decision. While I think Walton might be a decent coach, I think it would be a mistake to start over again. I don't think Igor has been perfect by any means, but he's very smart, tactical, backs his players, has good relationships, is a great teacher, and most importantly, compared to this year, he will only learn and get better with time.
I was just wondering if Sarver or Jones LOVED Morant and we got the first pick....it brought me back to the Shaq for Penny trade, where after drafting Shaq they didn't feel they needed Webber next to him so traded down for Penny and got 3 1sts (probably including that one).
Obviously personally I would never trade the #1 pick if we get it and would take Zion and I haven't even watched him a ton, but with the hype as high as it is, I wouldn't do anything but take him. And I don't think what we need now is another rookie PG...we basically been running out rookie level PGs this year.
I was also reading Rubin's most recent piece about upside and it didn't leave me thinking Ja would be a good pairing with Booker.
It really really really sucks that Booker is SO bad and doesn't seem to care about defense. It just makes building a team around him so tough. I mean even watching the game tonight (or any night for that matter), I see someone point him to a switch and he looks back at the guy and must give the guy 10 feet...as if there is ANY chance he could close out that fast....and I'm talking about GOOD shooters.
