Not to mention - trading for picks in the 50s is just not something you do. You can swap a future 2nd for a current one, but otherwise, it's quite silly. Any player drafted in the fifties might otherwise be available immediately after the draft.

I bet we take the Miami Heat approach to be the first team on the phone to the best undrafted prospects. We'll be defending champs so we'll undoubtedly have a lot of appeal as a roster full of players to learn from. So in my view, GoK is scouting guys for us to take a flier on post-draft.

He makes a great point about the draft and stash guys though. That's what a team like us needs as we won't have much time available for guys to play. That 6'10 Euro guy that can shoot looks good if he goes undrafted. Also the shooter from Virginia.

I personally hope we use our 29th pick for a young point to learn from Chris. Provided we resign Payne, we can use both to spell CP3 and then have the kid take over permanently when Chris retires.

Unless you think once again we will buy one, even though we are way over the cap, a finals team with a ton of vets, a pretty full roster and a couple young guys developing.

But undrafted, yeah, maybe for a 2 way contract.

I think we probably draft a guy for our roster at 29 and then sign one more guy on a 2 way along with Ty'Shon again...but it might be more likely to sign someone who is already playing in the G league and looked good than an undrafted rookie, which is a real crapshoot.

We don't have a second round pick.

Yeah, But I was more looking at us picking up a mid to late 2nd, Or extracting value from the undrafted pool even.

Unless you think once again we will buy one, even though we are way over the cap, a finals team with a ton of vets, a pretty full roster and a couple young guys developing.

Again though, we're obviously not going to be bringing back everyone. And the cost would be at worst minimal! Even if we lose two guys, Those are open spots to be considered?
**Personally, For the record, I think that If Saric doesn't really perform/ step up his game in this next series, And prove his contractual worth, We'll indeed look to offload him around the draft for cap relief ( expirings) and a potential asset if possible.

There are a number of very plausible scenarios available for just that purpose honestly.Just a few teams that immediately come to mind with possible interest would be:

1- Detroit
Saric for Joseph and the 52nd pick.
https://fanspo.com/nba/s/suns/trades/RlqhKVJz6f1UPm/cap-relief-trade

2- Toronto
Saric for Baynes ( expiring contract) and the 47th pick.
https://fanspo.com/nba/s/suns/trades/G2nIsqyUrya_JV/baynes-comes-home-2
or you could do Saric for Baynes ( expiring contract) And the 47th pick.
-Hood ( expiring contract) and the 46th pick too. Both are expiring contracts this upcoming season.

3-Indiana
Saric for Lamb ( expiring contract) and the 60th pick.
https://fanspo.com/nba/s/suns/trades/XfjhFpvWeO2hHv/lamb-for-saric-swap

4-New Orleans
Saric absorbed for the 53rd pick.
https://fanspo.com/nba/s/suns/trades/hrEEVhG6S_1GmX/sunspels-trade

5-Philly
Saric for Hill ( expiring contract) and the 50th pick.
https://fanspo.com/nba/s/suns/trades/_-1a-lnGnOO6y_/hill-for-saric-swap

6-Boston
Saric for Thompson and the 45th pick.

All trades would save us Sarics' 3rd yr salary, And IF Paul decided to opt out and give us a discount in yr 1 of an extension, With the assurance of an additional yr, We could likely slip under the tax. Regardless, We've got to start cutting payroll and create flexibility somehow. And preferably sooner rather than later. Replacing some under performers or players that won't be returning anyways with lower cost players achieves this, Along with affording us a bit more flexibility to possibly upgrade at other positions this summer too. :dontknow:
But undrafted, yeah, maybe for a 2 way contract.

Even IF we keep Alexander, We'll have one open two way spot. And If we don't, That's two. But i'd be ok, even if they looked to the G league, As I'm sure Jones will find a real gem. Still, The fact that they're choosing to bring in Mitchell and Alvarado for workouts, Would somewhat indicate to me, The possibility that they'll consider late 2nd to undrafted prospects as well.At least to fill our 2nd available two way perhaps?

I am just not sure Saric will get a draft pick attached if the team is trading an expiring contract too. That seems to be a lot to ask. Doesn't mean it can't happen - just really not sure what market Dario would have. I probably am keeping his this year too.

I hear you. Actually I'm just going primarily off of the premise of what the other teams fanbases were offering in part. Teams that had cap space and were already filled with young players, But were looking for a veteran player. And others that were already in the process of competing, And were looking to progress to the next step by adding more veterans to their roster. Ultimately though, The 2nds attached are not a make or break to the deals. I'd honestly be amenable to the equivalent salary swap of Saric for an expiring because it would save us close to 10 million in salary heading into our extensions of Ayton and Bridges, As well as the scale increases for Cam Johnson and Smith too. Shaving off Sarics' 3rd year is a great remedy to the mistake of not making his 3rd yr a team option in the first place. And IF he doesn't really find his consistency and game again next season, His underperforming and constant inconsistencies will reflect badly on us at nearly 10 million per yr. I'd much rather have the expiring and additional cushion in cap flexibility heading into our core extensions than 10 million tied up in an repeated inconsistent and underperforming player. But that's just my personal opinion on the subject.

Here's a list of the scheduled prospects that the Suns are bringing in for pre draft workouts. I believe that this should give us an idea of what they're looking for in the draft perhaps??

So it seems whether big or wing or guard, They're again prioritizing two way versatility, High IQ, work ethic, intangibles and character, As well as adaptability. I like that they're working out Queta and Alvarado. It shows that they're aware of our critical needs that must be addressed.

Jokics' long lost brother perhaps???
** Still a pretty impressive statline to be sure! Still also really like Sandro Mamukelashvili in the mid to late 2nd round to replace Kaminsky or Saric in time as an elite big man facilitator/ scorer for our offense post Chris Paul.

One silver lining about picking #29 is you don't need to target a particular position, just BPA. We're not filling critical needs with this pick. We're hoping to find a player who can contribute on a low-cost deal two years from now. All we need is a player - guard, wing or big.

... But if I had to guess, I bet we select a guard.

We've actually been pretty solid drafting late, let's hope the pattern stands.

I reckon we should go for David Duke out of Providence.

Would fit in well in Arizona hanging out with Doug Logan and the rest of his ninja crew.

Pretty crazy that the draft is already next week.

Curious to see the direction that we go at our spot. It seems like a pretty deep guard class. I like what I've seen out of Ayo Dosunmu, Cam Thomas, Jared Butler, Miles McBride, Tre Mann, and Nay'Shon Hyland. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl is a pretty versatile SF/PF that would help bring some size to our wings. Neemias Queta is an interesting big man that would help bring shore up our size behind Ayton.

I expect James Jones to go with someone projected late second round though lol.

I still think Trey Wright is going to be our pick.

Get the best center available who can protect the rim and stretch the floor to back up DA or go with the BPA PG which is likely Ayo Dosunmu

That's kinda funny and whoever he is he was born in the early 00s, so his parents definitely remember the other David Duke. Haha.
