Is Nance or Yabusele going to really move the needle

Both just examples… but Yabusele would be a great get. He loves Philly tho.

Nance is a little long in the tooth, but still a solid player and an asset. One of the problems with this big three strategy (or lack there of) was we fill half this team with one yr minimum deals. Non assets. One and done-s seeking their next deal. They aren’t invested.

You have to have either prospects or provens to make deals. Especially with no picks. We have Allen, O’Neal, Richards and Dunn. Yawn.

Somehow, the front office will try to make this team better this yr. Wishbia isn’t sitting on his hands for cap space two yrs down the road no matter how bad yall beg for it. My opinion of course, but do you expect different?

It doesn't cost the ROY and a lotto pick to get 37yo KD. Spurs could do it with #14 and filler

If the Knicks blow this series and lose badly to Indiana, (bad karma they created by attacking Boston fans, etc) then I'd have to think that a KD trade would be back on! Especially looking at the growing dysfunction between Brunson, KAT, Anunoby and Bridges.

Saw Anunoby motion to Kat during the game a few times on the court angrily. Seem to be criticizing his defense. The Pacers were attacking his drop coverage.

Ishbia would only trade for KAT in that scenario - he would want the big name scorer
waive and stretch Beal
sign D'Lo

And Booker would be happy to have KAT and D'Lo

Might as well burn the team down because building a team around Booker is like setting your house on fire then going to sleep.

Not likely! They have Castle as a franchise cornerstone piece. And with the embarrassment that our front office has the reputation of being, they'll very likely try to lowball us not even including Vassell in a trade but rather some package of either:

Keldon Johnson/ Barnes/ Sochan/ 1-2 firsts (I wouldn't accept this package without AT LEAST 2-3 1sts coming back).

Johnson/ Barnes/ Wesley/ filler/ 2 1sts.

But my package I'd demand would be:

Vassell/ Barnes/ Sochan/ 2 1sts (14th pick) / ATL 27' 1st or 2030 1st via DAL or MIN (swap rights) ** DAL unprotected or Minnesota only top 1 protected.

I'd then look to flip Vassell to Charlotte for Mark Williams/ Grant Williams/ 2 2nds- NOP 25' 2nd (33rd pick)CHO 25' 2nd (34th pick).
** I'd use the 33rd and 34th picks on:

33- Adou Thiero.
34- Kalkbrenner or Zisarky.
OR
Vassell/ Richards to Orlando for KCP/ Bidatze and the DEN 25' 1st (25th pick).
** I'd use this pick for Lendeborg or Raynaud.

I'm admittedly alot more bullish on KD's value then most here but......

Let's say that MIL wants both Castle, #2, #14, Vassell and a some of those tasty ATL picks that SAS owns. Plus makes the Spurs take Kuzma. Not a crazy suggestion as it's rumored MIL's GM is looking to break the other team for a Giannis trade.

So that's the requirement to get Giannis.

On the other hand, we offer up Durant for my package? Which would you rather give up if YOU were the Spurs GM, that above trade to get Giannis OR this:

Castle
#14
Filler (Keldon johnson+Harrison Barnes)

Plus, to sweeten the deal, I'd even agree to give our current CLV pick at #29 to them.

Doesn't that seem alot better to you? Or is that still a no-go....?

Well, I'd love to get your KD trade package from San Antonio man!! But I just don't honestly think there's any way we'd get Castle in a trade for KD. And especially not Castle and the 14th picks. Heck, even if we threw in our 29th pick ( which I personally wouldn't do), I still wouldn't see is getting Castle.

Now yes, the scenario you laid out for KDs' value being much less than what it'd take to get Giannis should obviously be much more appealing to the Spurs GM. But even then, KDs' current value is very unlikely to come close to returning a franchise cornerstone ROY player in the trade.

I just wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Spurs, if even interested in a KD trade offering a package of Johnson ( to move his contract)/ Barnes (as a salary filler to maintain cap flexibility)/ maybe Sochan or else Wesley (for Value filler)/ and the 14th pick / and the ATL 27' 1st. Or something a bit farther out like the 28 first swap via Boston ( Protected for #1).

And San Antonio will undoubtedly be salivating at the thought of Gregory as an inexperienced GM that they'll aggressively low ball trying to get him to cave to subpar value. As will most teams due to our front office's " Clown show" reputation. But yes, I'd still ask for that as a starting point and push for it! But,
I just don't see that outcome. :-?

I don't think they are giving up Castle period. Keep dreaming. If I was them I wouldn't. They would give up #14 to get Durant I think and Vassell/Barnes and like 3 future 1st's.

While I agree with you on not getting Castle, that package suggestion from the Spurs is still a bit rich for what San Antonio would give up. Think more along the lines of:

Vassell/ Johnson/ Wesley/ 14th pick and ATL 27' 1st.
OR
Johnson/ Barnes/ Sochan/ 14th pick/ 38th pick/ ATL 27' 1st/ UTA 26' 2nd. So basically no Vassell nets us two 1sts and two 2nds because we'd also be taking back K Johnson's multiyear money in the trade.

But if getting Vassell, we'd likely get Vassell and those ( specific) two 1sts. But they'd likely push for the 14th pick and multiple 2nds instead.

Spurs will potentially have Fox, Harper, Castle all PGs get rid of 1 for Durant seems fair

Having said that Castle is a worse 3pt shooter than Dunn so not the be all

I know Castle isn't a bonafide young star yet despite winning ROY but I still don't see the Spurs selling off their future for a 37yo KD that is 3, maybe at most 4-5 years away from retirement.

The only counter-argument I've heard is the potential acknowledgement that Wemby's long term health prospects isn't as rosy as most believe and while his potential is unmatched, there is a chance he doesn't reach those superstar MVP ceilings because of health. So there could be a counterargument for not waiting for Castle/#2 to reach star status before going all in while Wemby is still young, relatively healthy and already playing at an all-NBA, DPOY level now.

That being said, unless you have pretty good information that Wemby's career won't be as long and prosperous as most expect, I just can't see them mortgaging part of their promising future for an older vet who's window is now and not the future.

If Spurs get Durant and have Fox, Harper and Castle, KD will be licking his chops on that team for the kickout. It's a really good fit for him.

We need a KD trade for higher picks, and or more picks! Not just for a legitimate talent infusion and positional size, but also for a more balanced roster and cap sheet with cost controlled (4 yrs) rookie scale contracts.

15 million….. I’ve mathed it out multiple times here. Think it’s right.
If you think his camp is just vacationing, go ahead. He’ll have suitors if he doesn’t already. WTF you think agents do? Dude is likely to make money by leaving.

I don’t think the MadMatter is the type to throw in the towel. if he doesn’t get a sweet deal for KD, real sweet, he’ll gladly keep him. Cant give him away. He and theG will go into plan B mode of adding some legit pieces… and that’s hard to do without stretching Beal. Well, let’s just say it’s a lot easier If you do. There as so few options if not. May be we should prepare ourselves for a run back eh? No Thanks.

Im sure a question to the possible coaches is ‘What would you do with Bradley’

He's the type of versatile center talent that would really compliment Ighodaro at the 4. Oso could play in a Brandon Clarke type of role at the 4 with Raynaud doing all sorts of things at the 5. But I really think he ends up in the 17-23 range well outside of our reach without another pick acquisition or move up trade?

For what it's worth, I still think teams will be in on KD with maybe the Spurs (14), OKC (15), and Minnesota (17) as good trade up partners. Especially Minnesota if they get swept or suffer a gentleman's sweep to OKC as a prime target!

Most mocks I've see have him at the very highest in the early 20's but others usually have him in the late 1st or early 2nd. I think he's potentially a steal at 29 if he even meets pre-draft expectations but I do feel like taking him #17 is a bit of a stretch. I do need to do a bit more research on who else is available in the late lotto, high teens range to see if it's worth it

When doing things today, especially with the money implications, you have to think about future implications.
If we continue with Booker, then we will have 70 millions committed to a player that probably was consulted a few years ago after losing the Finals and offered his opinion on dismantling the roster. At least I never listened to own word of him saying that was a bad idea.

Now it seems like we want to continue with him as our leader just because he wants it to be. I am not saying we should trade him at all costs, but all possibilities need to be examined. An offer of cutting down his salary to offer more flexibility would be nice. After all, Booker, Beal and KD all wanted to play together and they some part in the responsibility of creating such a mess, from a basketball standpoint.

Playing Booker and Beal and KD together proved to be wrong because it is just impossible. Basketball is played with five players that complement each other and in those three we have very similar players who like to dribble, create their own shots, prefer the long two and do not offer any other area of strength, such as rebounding, passing, creating, defending... I mean, all three are not bad at other things.KD is a good rebounder for his position, age and style, still not the rebounder a champion team needs from a PF. Booker is not a good creator for others, as his sole intention is shooting. Same for Beal, although he sometimes offer interesting defensive efforts, gets rebounds, etc. Not a well balanced team in the end.

Probably we would be a much better team spending less and with just one or two star players if the rest of the roster is well built.

How to get to that situation? Well, that is something so complicated... The situation we put us into is really bad. If we do not experience the miracle of a team getting Beal for almost nothing (even trading Dunn with him would be like a good idea), then I believe we either trade Booker or pray...

If I think about trades, I just can think of players who play for teams where they already have good SGs, as Sacramento, where Sabonis could be an interesting addition.
Are the Rockets going to buy into getting KD for a year for Jabari and some other player or pick? I do not think so.

So unless the people who put us into this mess (Ishbia and IT) have some aces up their sleeves, I believe we should let KD play out his contract and next summer use all our cap space in finding a young star and stretch Beal, because it will be two years on his contract. Then probably trade Booker for two good players and start all over again.

The good part? Our expectations are sooooo bad that any trace of positiveness or good movements are going to be like fallen from Heaven...

Duane Rankin:

Dallas Mavericks assistant Sean Sweeney has learned from Jason Kidd, is from Saint Paul, Minnesota and stands on business.

Described by league sources as someone who has an unrivaled work ethic, Sweeney is one of several candidates for the Phoenix Suns head coaching vacancy.

“He is a winner that will hold players accountable,” one league source said about Sweeney.

Sweeney joined the Mavs staff as an assistant in 2021 to mark the third time he’s coached under Kidd. His first NBA job was as a video coordinator for the New Jersey Nets (2011-13).

He was then moved up to assistant in 2013 when Kidd landed his first NBA head coaching job with the Brooklyn Nets. Kidd spent one season with the Nets before going to the Milwaukee Bucks in a trade.

Sweeney followed him to Milwaukee, where he served as an assistant under Kidd for his four seasons there. The Bucks fired Kidd during the 2017-18 season.

Sweeney continued his coaching career in Detroit under Dwane Casey from 2018-21. He and Kidd reunited with the Dallas Mavericks in 2021.

League sources added that Sweeney is a “great leader” who has tremendous command.

Before coaching in the NBA, Sweeney was a video coordinator on the collegiate level at Northern Iowa. He was the director of basketball operations at the University of Evansville.

Sweeney served as an assistant at Anoka Ramsey Community College in Cambridge, Minnesota, and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Sweeney also played college basketball, spending one season at Wisconsin-Green Bay before transferring to University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, where he was a three-year starter and earned all-conference honors as a senior in 2005-06.

Yeah we know. Most here including already posted a hundred times how we just want to start over again and get rid of the entire team.

A hundred times at least from my count.

But the point is... Ishiba is a fool.
And we know fools will never learn.

So he will most likely build around Booker because he's a dumb fool.

If the rumor is true of PG and pick 3, it's a good offer if Suns want to try to compete and also get young studs... but Ishiba is a damn fool.

Return to Phoenix Suns
