Gobert is one of the few guys who can transform a team's defense single handedly. He will also unlock Dunn defensively, who could play ultra aggressive with Rudy behind him. The Suns would still have enough offense on the team, and either Donte or Grayson could be moved to reduce overlap - both guys have positive value IMO.

That wolves package or Gobert, Donte and Dillingham is great, and much better than the packages that have been floating around from Miami and SAS.

I think Green, Smith Jr and Pick 10 (Suns 2025) OR Suns 2027 Pick WOULD satisfy the Suns demands.

Suns then turn around to Nets and trade Green for Nick Claxton, Pick 9 2025 and future first rounder

Suns could potentially find their PF and C, along with Pick 9, Pick 10, Pick 29 just before the Draft. Suns should consider moving up to Pick 3 by packaging Pick 9 and Pick 10. Suns can then draft a PG, possibly Edgecomb or Harper. Then Suns draft Kalkbrenner at 29.

I would then trade Allen and O'Neil to Magic for Isaacs. So the new lineup becomes

Giving Suns the following rotation

C Claxton
F Smith Jr
F Isaacs
G Booker
G Harper/Edgecomb
G Beal
F Dunn
F Oso
C Kalkbrenner

Would be a GOOD start to the rebuild preparing for Post Booker, maybe after next season.

What makes you think the Suns can get #9, Clayton and a future 1st for Green?

More importantly, why wouldn't the Rockets take that themselves.....?

Pick 8 then

Jalen Green doesn't have that big positive value around the league.

He's right about the Nets. We can probably get Claxton for him, maybe something else. Protected pick of some sort...?

Obviously we're not getting the #8 pick plus the rest of that pipe dream but Claxton for Jalen is a swap BRK will make.

Maybe this is the only real offer on the table right now but this also reads like we still want to make a serious effort to compete for a playoff spot in the short term otherwise I don't know why we would want Gobert. It's certainly not because the picks are that enticing.

Of course makes sense about the possibility of remaining or becoming more competitive given the likelihood of not getting our picks back from Houston. Because we'd need to mitigate that value Houston gets as much as possible going into the 27' season.

As for the picks not being enticing, that's just an eye of the beholder situation depending upon a number of variables such as what prospects become available in those ranges and/or what we could theoretically do with those acquired picks? :D

Thank you! Even though Goberts' offensive shortcomings are well noted and still glaring, his defensive skilset/ abilities and reputation can take this team to another level competitively. And Dillingham can be moved for other critical pieces or assets worst case scenario.

In a disadvantageous situation wherein teams by majority lowball us, it's important to identify deals that return workable assets and depth pieces to sidestep that core value loss and give us options we didn't previously have.

Gobert's best years are clearly behind him. As i said, he's on the verge of his decline. Let's just make the same mistake again, acquire a guy on the wrong side of 30's and expect him to dominate and bring us chips. Although Rudy is indeed a very good defender, he simply can not 'transform' our defense overnight. That's just wishful thinking and rationalizing a not so good return. It is highly debatable if Donte is any better than Allen and Dillingham is a 3rd tier 'prospect'. Pretending Donte is some kind of a highly sought-after guy won't make a thing for us. Reality slaps. Adding a pick might help, but there is no way in hell this offer is better than any of the others floating around. Anyone who is willing to give multiple solid picks with a serviceable rotational player or two you can flip somewhere elese is beating this crap offer.

With Gobert...

He's main defense is paint defense... and maybe just outside rhe paint area guarding jump shooters and other bigs. But perimeter defense and small ball, he is absolutely a liability.

But let's not forget Suns actually had a center who could stay on the court against small ball and also defend inside and outside.. Ayton.
So although Gobert is enticing, if Suns want to fix their defense, getting Ayton back would be the cheaper choice.... given that Ayton and Booker probably ain't in the best of terms. But I'm just saying... Suns already had a good defending center but blew it.

That would be one of the worst trades ever for Minnesota. Total win for Phoenix. This pretty much means they wouldn't have to rebuild and they can put a better fit roster around Booker

This year Gobert got $44M.
He averaged 12 points and 11 rebounds and he was (again) one of the best interior defenders in the league.

He will earn $35M next year so he took a nice paycut in his extension. He has been healthy basically all his career and his motor and passion for the game is always really high.

I understand that his best years are behind him, I agree with you, but special defensive Cs with nice mobility and good health usually can be effective and good until they are 35 years old.

Mutombo and Ben Wallace played very well until they were around 35 years old.
They are an example of great defensive Cs than can be starters and your anchors even late on their careers.

Absolutely. Even defensively he has glaring weaknesses and on offense he's pretty much abysmal. He can make a putback, dunk when the ball is served to him on a platter and that's about all. At 33-34 he's not exactly going to become quicker, stronger, or more athletic so the flaws will only be exposed more.

VV
Booker
Dunn
Jabari
Porzingis
-------------
XXX
Beal
Allen
Bol
Oso
Plumlee
------------

Add or erase minimal pieces here and there as I have no clue what the Celtics could demand for Porzingis with one year left on his contract

Are we really interested in Porzingis? The guy who's injured half of the time? I'd rather skip.

Nets already have a green light chucker.

Anybody taking on Green is doing a favor.

Don’t make that Houston deal unless you have a 3rd team trade in place. All these proposals that involve multiple trades after the fact is just flat out crazy risky wishing.

Prepare to be underwhelmed.

Outside of may be Jabari Smith or #9 pick, we are essentially giving Durant away. Most of the participants won’t be here after 2 yrs. Although Quickly has a 4 yr deal, is he the answer at PG? Certainly better than most options, and might spare us a DLo appearance…. Checks the fast pace box too. IDK much more about him to be excited one way or another, but he and #9 might be the winning ticket. Beats the bandaid Minnesota offer

Agreed That's very bad if that's the best offer.

If the Twolves are the only team willing to pay Durant the 120/2 extension, he will go to Minnesota

So many reports out there -- I still think it will be the Rockets
Woj said it a year ago... going with it
If that means taking Jalen Green - because the rest of the trade is good - -so be it

I just don't trust Ish and Gregory to have the vision of maybe realizing the Rockets trade has good players and flip Green

The Twolves trade no doubt will help the Suns in the short term

Return to Phoenix Suns
