Honestly you’re probably looking at a 2nd round pick and a trade exception in that scenario.
Heck, we could have used both of those this year. So definitely nothing to sneeze at. Get all the assets you can when possible

If the team had cap space (like the Knicks) or would use the MLE we could get a veteran player on their team with close enough salary or a trade exception. The worst case would be a trade exception which we could use to acquire a player from any team. This actually would be the best case since it allows more negotiation opportunities.

If the team didn't have space they could send us a veteran that filled a position of need on our team. This one is harder to do.

Sacramento could use an upgrade at C. Their current starting C is Holmes. Could maybe pry away a guy like Cory Joseph away from them (They have Fox and Haliburton and Ramsey), and while i think Baynes could get a ton of minutes and build some more value for himself, no way is SAC a playoff team, so Baynes wouldnt probably accept a deal to go there.

Honestly there is only a handful of teams that might be interested, but those teams dont have much to offer us in return. Very little places for him to get meaningful minutes, thus them not valuing him as much and limiting his return.

Boston could be interested in re-acquiring him. He was a fan favorite and while Theis has been good there, Baynes brings something different that they dont have with any of their 3 C's. Sh*t, nevermind, forgot about Thompson.

Uhh....lemme look at the teams.

I love it!

Yes! Great signings so far.

1. We got Crowder for the almost same per year money as guys like Melton and Derrick Jones Jr. This signing is being underrated, we need a guy to bring toughness, look a the effect that adding Baynes had on the suns last year.

2. We extended Carter (who I like better than both Melton and DJJ) on a 3 year deal that is total about 2 mil more than their per year salary.

James Jones making so really good moves this Off season, thus far. Will still reserve my final judgment for when off season has ended, but if we can just bring Saric back on a decent deal and add a third string veteran PG - I'd call this the most successful off-season in recent yearsm

I am surprised so many here preferred Melton over Carter, has he developed into a decent three point shooter or something?

Raptors probably want him if they lose Gasol.

They might offer us Stanley Johnson.

OR, if they are not re-signing RHJ and/or Boucher they could do a double or triple S&T for those guys.

I don't think a team will typically do a S&T for a player they have on their roster that they like if they can sign your guy for the MLE.

But, if they want Baynes at around the MLE they could S&T one of their own FAs to us (not sure if they could do two).

If we REALLY want to do a S&T and also wouldn't mind having him, we could sign him and go into the season and he would be eligible for trade December 14th.

If a team had a C go down, they might trade for him.

This would probably need to be a 1 year deal, but then he could hit FA again next year. He was probably hoping for a multi year deal anyway.

Toronto is probably having a harder time because they are likely only offering 1 year deals to these guys because they want max cap space next summer.

Man if T-Dot run with Gasol... Baynes could be running out of options. They could probably still use him as a starter with Gasol as the backup.

Ok, i know im a bit tipsy, but no they havent. They have interest in him, but havent signed him yet. He is still a FA. It will probably a better signing than going after Baynes in a S&T.

Raul Neto signed somewhere. I was going to say sub in Shabazz Napier, but I see you have him a the vet minimum.

Is McLaughlin a RFA? Minnesota might match a bi annual deal..but they do have a ton of guards. However, before the signed Rubio I saw one article saying it wouldn't be surprising if he became the backup PG this year as well as he played last year.

I still don't really see Carter as a lead PG, but more of a SG...I don't feel he can really run an offense. Payne is better at it, but to rely on him is a little scary so I hope we are able to get a vet PG backup.

That would be interesting and could be feasible. They lost Robin Lopez in FA. Only C they have under contract is Brook. They signed Portis Jr., he can play some C, but is more of a PF (At least i think so). Same thing goes with Bender (LOL). Divincenzo was reportedly part of the Bogdon trade that fell through, so the Bucks seem to be ok letting him go for the right piece.

Well some guy in the Ty-Shon thread who watched him in college said he thought he was and would be better than Anthony Edwards (I think)...anyway, funny enough I was just looking at his numbers and they look pretty good.

Do they not have a MLE or have they used it? I seriously doubt they'd be willing to let him go though...he was good and was a really good defender this year.
