Re: Around The NBA: 2014/2015
In a much more limited role than what he had in Detroit he will probably be a pretty good player. I bet playing along side some respect vet like Paul or Wade would get him to curtail his idiotic shot selection. If a middling team like ours picked him up with no one having the credentials to challenge him he would be the same Beasleyesque offensive player that he was in Detroit.
Some contender will gobble him up and revive his career as an ace bench defender and energy guy. Unless he is far stupider than I suspect and instead some contender will pick him up and he will destroy his career by playing the same idiot style that he was in Mo-Town and that team will cut him before the season is over.

Re: Around The NBA: 2014/2015
My question about the Smith situation:
Can we take advantage of it? From what I read Houston is in the lead b/c of his ties to Howard, and they can give him the bi-annual instead of the vet min...
Other suitors are Clippers, Kings, Mavs, Heat. Can we take anybody from those teams which would allow them to pay Josh more, or that isn't allowed if you want to pick up a player as an unrestricted free agent after he was waived?

Any NBA team can bid whatever amount they want for him and a highest bidder win. Then, a team who got Smith pay him that amount (for example 7.5 mil) while Pistons pay the rest (14 mil - 7.5. mil = 6.5 mil) till the end of his current contract.
Those are the rules for when a player is amnestied. Waiving is different. If you claim him, you pay is full salary.

But no one is going to claim him from waivers so they can pay him his full salary. Teams will just wait 48 hours and he is an unrestricted FA.
My above question still stands: can we rip someone off so they can overpay Houstons bi-annual? (Take an expiring, maybe 2 yr contract, big preferred, and maybe get a late first for our services?)

Re: Around The NBA: 2014/2015
I posted this in the general form, but it's worth asking.
Josh Smith has been exceptionally bad. Exceptionally bad. Why? There are really only 2 possible reasons:
1. Substance abuse
Josh got a big contract, relaxed, and started doing drugs. Don't laugh. This happens a lot.
2. He tanked on purpose
Josh took the biggest contract he could get when he was a free agent but hated the situation in Detroit so much that he tanked on purpose so Detroit would HAVE to trade him.
For #1, think Beasley, Vin Baker, Shawn Kemp, Richard Dumas, Ron Artest. This stuff really happens.

Re: Around The NBA: 2014/2015
Lol Aldridge and Horford wins player of the week honors..
Aldridge pretty much doubles Horford's averages... yet both are "player" of the week.
Hawks won 3 games sure, but maybe someone like John Wall would of won it if the Suns hadnt beaten Wizards..
Aldridge 26/15/2/1.5
Horford 16/7/2
One is west, the other east.

Re: Around The NBA: 2014/2015
I can see the Lakers either claiming him in the hope he returns to form, or yeah the Rockets signing him even though they have two much cheaper/better fitting PFs in Motiejunas and Terrence Jones.
I guess this stops the Monroe trades now you'd assume?
Imagine if Philly claimed him, that would be hilarious - Smith would probably retire/sit out his contract haha

Apparently Smith has agreed to sign with Houston and has been promised the starting PF role. I think DMo could fit on the Suns and our style of play. Can McD get the best of Morey in a trade for him?

He was made to play small forward and be a primary scoring option, when he's neither and no one on his team can shoot (look at drummond's fg%), you're not going to have any space, when no one on your team from pg to c can shoot

Their pg shoots 38% and doesn't get fouled, their pg 37% and no fouls, neither Monroe or Drummond can shoot either, how does someone who isnt a good shooter themselves work with that?

Nope! The rockets just waived Tarik Black to make room. Any chance we put a waiver claim on him, and if so, do we have a shot? Does it work the same as the NFL? Do they base the waiver claim "winner" by draft position of the previous season, or is it based on the highest bidder wins?

Very sad. Right now I would much rather hear stories of people beating cancer.

Brett Brown should be coach of the year for even winning any games and somehow managing to keep his team playing hard and together. Has done an amazing job really despite being set up to fail.

I'd go with Kerr or Budenholzer right now.
