Ford's Mock Draft 3 updated today

5. Phoenix Suns

Kris Dunn
Providence
Junior
Guard

The Suns are fading fast now that Eric Bledsoe is out for the season with a torn meniscus. They've won just once in their past 10 games, and if things don't get better, they could challenge both the Lakers and Nets for the second-worst record in the NBA. The Suns already have two point guards -- Bledsoe and Brandon Knight -- but then again, they don't really have one. Both are shooting guards that lack the size to play the 2.

The good news is Dunn brings the floor vision of a lead guy with enough size to guard both backcourt positions. He's not a great shooter and he's a little old, but he's the most dynamic guard in the draft. The Suns would have to figure out how to find minutes for all three guards.

28. Phoenix Suns*

Carlton Bragg
Kansas
Freshman
Forward

Bragg has played sparingly for the Jayhawks this year, but scouts are watching every time he steps on the court. His ability to score inside and out, combined with his rebounding ability, makes him an intriguing prospect.

He'll probably stay in school at least one more year for Kansas, but if he declares for the draft, Phoenix could bite.

Projected record (via Cavaliers): 57-25

29. San Antonio Spurs

Domantas Sabonis
Gonzaga
Sophomore
Forward

Sabonis is the perfect sort of Spurs player -- highly intelligent, tough, super-productive -- especially as a rebounder. But he lacks the flash and upside of players going ahead of him. He'd thrive under Gregg Popovich.

Projected record: 67-15

There's very little chance the Suns take Dunn.

A couple of questions for you.

Do you follow the regular nba season much or watch games, or just more strictly focus on prospects (though it seems if you did this, you would follow them in the pros too). For example, how would you rank the top 10 rookies this year?

And I've heard you don't post at all in the Mavs forum, and if so, why not? Because they never have draft picks?

I rarely post in the Southwest division forums, they are mostly dead, no much activity, sometimes I pass by Dallas and Houstons and that is it.
I follow everything I can honestly, NBA, NCAA, Euroleague, youth tournaments etc..., in terms of top10 rookies depends on if we go by ceiling or performance I guess, still early for me, the 3 bigs will be top3 of course, and Russell 4th, other than that, quite open.

Not sure if you have read any other threads, but in this day and age, with 3 pt % being so important in the nba, Lyles, Booker, Payne and Towns are extremely impressive with these types of performances as rookies.

I'd love Sabonis with CLE's pick. Some mocks have him, somewhat surprisingly, as low as 9th.

Amazing that Zeus shoots 87% from the line. He could be an option pick for 2nd round or maybe even the late first. Also impressive with all the other things he does.

He's easily a long-term rotation big.

Interesting to see Hernángomez at 7 already. He'd be an upgrade over Morris with his fierce rebounding.

He is a monster, I almost put him at 6th, the top5 is pretty set in stone for me though.

nbadraft.net has him at 47, but they have Ryan Anderson at 45 and Trier at 25. I like Anderson, but I think Kaleb has a better chance in the pros. Trier seems like he could use another year in college.

Rabb is a decent consolation prize. This is a two player draft. I would be shocked if Sabonis is there for the Cleveland pick. I would not mind moving up to get him though.

Caris LeVert could be very interesting too with our late 1st if we draft a big with our top pick.
I'm all in with adding playmakers and defenders in this draft.

Give me Rabb/LeVert/Ullis and I'll be super happy.

Yes. I was thinking this. Plays D, rebounds, hustles. Problem is that he is 6-3 and doesn't have good handles or shot. I do predict that Gary Payton II will have multiple triple doubles in his NBA career (just because of how well he rebounds for a small guard). If he was 6-5 he would be alot more valuable.

AZ to take on Ivan Rabb and Jaylen Brown tomorrow night on ESPN. Should be a good one.

I would never draft Anderson. I like him in college, but don't see the pro future at all. Unless he surprises at the combine and tests as a much better athlete than I am expecting, I just don't see it. Kaleb has the size and athleticism to play at this level, and the mindset to excel as a role player. Particularly since he's a throwback guy stylistically--he is much more valuable in my opinion. Guys who love to set picks and stay in the paint while being happy to go hard for boards even if they don't get the ball a ton are not common today.

Am I crazy for liking Dunn? He's just so strong and explosive at great size for a point guard.
Downside would be his age and my aversion to taking old seniors high in the draft. But ****, he has a tight handle, athletic, can finish in traffic like Archie has never shown, willing passer, and great size.
Depending on where we pick I would be happy with Dunn.

Edit: for some reason I thought he was 23 but he's a bit younger than TJ. I'd be happy with Dunn and try to move knight and depending on Dunn's growth, bledsoe as well. But that's for a different thread.

Draft BPA no matter what.
