Eddie Jones was one of my fave players back in the days even when he was a laker...
That said... I think Goodwin is slightly more agile especially through traffic and on the air... I think defensively he can be similar in terms of awareness and tenacity.. But I see Sprewell a lot too... A combination of Jones and Sprewell is an incredibly good player either way ;)

This....

He will never be a "SG," but he can create off of the dribble, so when he does this and defenses collapse on him he has to be willing to pass the ball. They see him in a Rondo/Westbrook hybrid mold and at 18 yrs of age.

What ever they are doing, they know better than us. I LOVE the pick and hopes he becomes one of our future big three. :D

Why will he never be a shooting guard? He is young, he has the size the speed. He certainly can develop the shooting touch. I think sg is his most likely future position.

You see I put that in quotes right :-?

Russel Westbrook isn't a PG either. I think the Suns want his play to emulate Russ' game, pure and SIMPLE. He is 18 years old and trying to define him at this point and time is a little ridiculous. McD did say that we could shape him at this point in his career, which is why we took him. The guy attacks the basket like no other....

My original quote. I guess I should have just said a pure SHOOTING guard alas Klay Thompson.

Good read. Sounds like both Bledsoe and Goodwin have strong work ethics and good heads on their shoulders.

Best line from the article:

"Goodwin turned 19 in August and his teammates have the league’s second youngest player toting a Hello Kitty backpack to prove his rookie status. "

LOL.

He is so young. I was a filthy degenerate at that age.

Once Goodwin gets Alpha male personality, some size, and a J (all of which that will come with age), it is lights out!!

He can get to the hoop so easy and he is so coordinated.....man. That stuff does not grow on trees.

So how are you guys feeling about the rookie, Goodwin?

I'm still as high on him as ever and glad to see he's getting so many opportunities in his rookie campaign.

When I see him go to the rack at will :droop: and he is only frick'n 20!! He looked good against SAS. I am very high on him; so high I don't miss Len all that much. Archie should be ready when he turns 23 and Goran turns 30...Goran will be ready for the bench then.

Actually Goodwin is still 19! Won't turn 20 until just before NEXT season starts.

He needs to settle down a bit out there and work on finishing around the hoop. His ability to get to the rim is amazing but he seems to get in there and his focus becomes trying to get a whistle rather than just finishing the play. Once he gets better at scoring at the rim the whistles will come as defenders are forced to respect him more.

Hornacek seems to be giving a bit of tough love...
Any defensive lapse or laziness he gets yanked out.

This is good for developing the correct attitude.

His offense will come as he develops his shot... And gets confidence.

He really has very good slashing and penetrating ability... Horny is making sure he doesn't develop bad discipline on court .. Or so I hope.

Maybe Horny's leaving Gerald Green in to show Goodwin what not to do. Sucks how far Green has declined since coming off the bench.

After reading how Bledsoe felt like when he was with the Clippers, I feel like Goodwin feels the exact way with the Suns:

I pretty much wasn’t thinking about shooting when I was in,” Bledsoe said of his Clippers season. “I was thinking, ‘If I miss it, I’m coming out.’ Now I can shoot it all day long without looking over my shoulder. Confidence helped me out, too. Last year, I wasn’t really as confident and shooting the ball as much as I do now. I was trying to do everything at the rim. It’s in the past, and I’m looking forward to what’s happening now.”

Bledsoe has been more efficient with another new perimeter wrinkle to his game — a transition pull-up, mid-range jumper.

“I’m getting a chance to shoot it,” Bledsoe said. “When I was with the Clippers, I couldn’t really do what I wanted to. As far as my game-wise, sometimes I’d come out and compromise a little bit. I had a short leash. I just try to come in and do as much as I can as possible. Now I get to showcase my talent.”

And this is my point about giving Goodwin consistent minutes.

Confidence is a massive thing as a sports star.

But it is still early...
Eventually he will be given freedom to show his stuff...
Gerald Green does it on a nightly basis... Basically hasn't taken a shot he didn't like...

But Green is being instructed to shoot, so I don't see the point of your dig at the end.

I've seen about 3-4 games with Green launching a defended shot...

I have no problems with him jacking up open shots... but there were games I swear I yelled at the screen because he had team mates open.

I wasnt having a dig, but merely stating my impression of him... it may have sounded like a dig but thats just how I imagine he sees the game.

Green is going to shoot. That's his role here and he is doing it well enough, but some times he falls in love too much with his shot. When he is making the contested ones, he reminds of Tracy McGrady, but if they don't go in, it's pretty ugly. The same happens with the Morii and their Kobe-esque possessions, above all Marcus.

In my opinion Green needs to do three simple things to solidify and improve his status on the team:
1.- Grasping the concept of the extra pass,
2.- Not trying to create for himself or others with his subpar handles, court vision and passing ability
3.- Using his physical tools to defend.

If he develops in that way, we have a pretty nice role player. Otherwise, he is just a microwave 3pt shooter off the bench, which is not bad particularly at his salary, but can't stay on the court unless he is hitting his bombs, especially when you have a 19 year old waiting for his turn.

I actually paid extra attention to Green's defense today and I have to admit, it was pretty good. He stayed in front of his man and he used his athleticism to catch up with guys quickly anytime someone got ahead of him.

Its so weird that his handles suck so much. Don't you learn how to dribble the ball after being in the league for 6 years? He pays no attention to the handles and leaves it out where anyone can just swipe at it and knock it away.

Basketball 101: Dribble the ball close to your body and protect the ball.

Lets hope. The short leash that Bledsoe is talking about is the same as Goodwin is on right now. Even Bledsoe said that he wasn't able to showcase his talent because of that short leash, and what if its doing that exact same thing to Goodwin?
