Well as of right now the Heat are bottom 3 in the East. That pick is looking very likely to be a 2019 pick with no protection.
What's your opinion guys, should we trade those picks as part of a package for a star? Or should we hold on to them? Keep in mind by 2021, we'll have 25 year old Booker, 24 year old Chriss/Bender.
Keep the picks. We should learn from Brandon knight not to trade lightly protected firsts for instant gratification.
Having a young star on a cheap contract and under team control for almost a decade after drafting them is very important. I'm hopeful that by 2021 we'll be in the playoffs and that 2021 pick could be our next big key that pushes us over the top.
Yes, keep and use picks. That's the best chance to get a star.
Once Bender gains strength, I think he's in that category. Would like to see more aggression on offense from Chriss. Would like to see Warren put forth consistent effort. Would like to see Booker focus on being consistent with his jumper - he acts and talks as if his J is a finished product. It was when at the beginning of his rookie season, but as he's diversified his game, that aspect has fallen off. Len needs to find his groove within an offense. Ulis just needs to see the court.
What I'm saying is, we have plenty of potential stars on the roster. Perhaps not superstars, but the right mix of talent can win a championship without an all-time great on the roster. Still, you give a 55 win team a top 3 pick in 2019 and again in 2021 - sheeeit, son. Now you're talking possible dynasty.
