Great to see even if a little misleading. Bigs have to guard guys shooting inside (much higher avg %)...Dunn guards a lot of guys shooting 3s...where avg is a lot lower.

He's obviously an awesome defender though and probably the best in the draft, though I can't say I've watched others much.

It's not misleading at all. He contests shots everywhere on the court, like any other player.

And what about comparing him to other rookies?

We are talking about a defensive minded player who excels being aggressive on that side of the court so all in all he's not fouling too much for a rookie.

He averages 2.3 fouls playing over 18 minutes per game.
4.5 fouls per 36 minutes.

Risacher 3.2 fouls/per 36.
Zach Edey 4.7 fouls per 36.

He contests EVERY shot, doesn't matter if it's a 3p shot or at the rim. That's an skill. A nice skill in his arsenal.

I was just trying to answer the original question. I love his defense and ability to contest shots.

He also fouls a lot. To your point, he is fouling the 5th most per 100 possessions among rookies (min. 15 games).

Adem Bona: 8.1
Donovan Clingan: 8.0
Jaylon Tyson: 7.4
Pelle Larson: 6.8
Ryan Dunn: 5.9
Zach Edey: 5.9

With Royce O'Neale out in the last two games Ryan Dunn has a bigger role and he is performing really well.

11.5 points
6.5 rebounds
2 assists
2 blocks
1 steal
31 mpg

He isn't making mistakes:
2.5 fouls
0 TOs

Shooting 9/19 (3/11 threes) and 2/2 FTs.

Won't be part of Big 3, only a role player likely, but that's fine.

He's gotta hit those 3's at a higher clip.

Dude could literally get in the gym all summer and it'd be the difference between having a 5-8 year career, making 50m or a 12-14 year career making 150m.

Everything else about his game, I love.

Ryan Dunn stats in the last 8 games (since Royce's injury):

10.5 points
5.4 rebounds
1.3 assists
0.4 steals
1.0 blocks

Shooting 52/34/75

26.4 minutes per game. Only 1 TO in these last 8 games!

Game after game we are verifying that he is the steal of this year's draft.

If Ryan Dunn sucked, we'd have Jimmy Butler here already.

But he doesn't!

And he's such a injection of youth, athleticism, effort, and defensive chops that we sorely need. Dude is a dawg.

Future is bright for the young man.

I love Dunn. I am a little surprised he doesn't have more steals though.

Dunn will not suddenly propel us to the playoffs when everyone else is gone. The next 5-7 years will be dark having Dunn won’t mean much. It’s like having Booker from 15 to 19 and Suns didn’t accomplish much in those years. Without picks this team is doomed.
