Quit drafting projects and start drafting players who can plan now.
That's not our strategy, and it's not good strategy, either. That's what free agency and trades are for.
McD's stated his philosophy: draft the player who will have the best NBA career. I'd say it's worked well, so far. I'm just not sure there's much gold to mine in this draft.
If the Suns had used that strategy in 1996 they would have never drafted Steve Nash. Ainge called him the "safe" pick. It is incredibly dangerous to draft players with physical issues, thinking your trainers can fix them. Also, there are all kinds of incredible athletes drafted that do not have the fortitude, braines, or character to succeed.
Even when you do draft a player with a decent future down the road, he ends up being a free agent just as he becomes useful. Also, when you already have a number of projects on your roster, you really need to consider trading the picks or drafting a guaranteed contributor. In our case, you have Len, Archie, and Warren all in the development process--even the Morris brothers would be in that category. Sure, if the guy has superstar potential, but there are so many Earl Clarks out there.
Right now, Turner has much more of a chance of becoming an Earl Clark rather than a star.
