That Rubio-Bridges connection has been a thing of beauty. Shame we don't see it more often but I presume we'll see more as the season rolls on and Bridges gets more minutes and they develop even more chemistry

This thread confused me thought we signed his brother from Charlotte.

Really happy with his development in his second season. October and November were tough months for him, but I always thought that the reason behind that was the injury that he suffered in preseason.

His versatility and awareness on defense are great and he plays smart basketball on offense. He is a perfect fit next to Booker and Ayton. I mean...PERFECT fit.

The stats did not justice to Mikal's impact last night. Everywhere on defense, excellent and comfortable on offense. Super impressed with him. He has to be in the starting lineup going forward.

All the people who talk about oh, who has he stopped? Who has he shut down 1v1? Are completely missing the massive impact he has on team defense.

^this

1v1 matchups are gonna be tough against big bodies like lebron and giannis while he is still young and wiry (maybe he always will be)

But really, which defender in the league actually stops lebron and giannis consistently?

Even against guys that's not unstoppable like Lebron and Giannis, you're never going to be able to consistently stop a great offensive player every time. Great offensive always beats great defense. But when looking at overall team impact and over an entire game, Mikal has been one of the best in the league

Bridges disrupted Luka like I've never seen 1v1.

That put back dunk off Books miss was almost a game saver. Just halted the little mo the Jazz were getting into, and caused an Immediate time out by Utah. It ended like a 3-4 possession no score drought. Mikal was as fired up after that as we've seen. Dude was everywhere last night. Unsung player of the game.

Not that this is something that needs to be figured out any time soon but what will he be looking at for a second contract. I think he's really valuable but he doesn't really put up stats. Guys like that are extremely hard to gauge contract price. Like if he was a UFA this summer what does he get? I feel like I'd guess a number like 10 mil but could be wrong by a significant amount either way.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

It will all depend on how well he shoots from 3, takes it to the rim, and his assists and steals. Two years is a long time. My guess is that he'd get quite a bit more than $10 million. It might be better for us if you see constant improvement but it isn't necessarily reflected in his ppg and then he really breaks out in that respect on his second contract. I think it's a pretty wide range.

Do you think he will be better than a guy like Caris LeVert who got 3/52? I think he will likely be a guy a number of teams want to go after. He could range from a guy like Covington to something close to George. His 2nd year #s are not too far off from George in many respects. He is not as good from 3 but far better from 2. He shoots over 60% from 2 and has a TS% of 61%,far higher than George did. If he happened to get close to 40% from 3 and added close to 2 more apg, he would be a fairly elite 2 way player.

He would have to develop a handle to become more like Paul George. It's not unheard of for more defensive role players on the wing to develop handles and take the next step. Siakam and Jaylen Brown did it this year. Butler and George did it in years past. Mikal is a pretty good athlete, with long arms and quickness, and some alright hops. He would be ideal for developing his game in the fashion that those other guys have. As with any case, it's always a long shot. But that's what he would need to do.

It's interesting certainly, and you'd it's something the team would try to work on. No reason not to- a tighter handle and being able to drive is always a great addition to anyone's game even if they don't take the leap from role player to star.

There's like 2% chance Mikal becomes as good as PG.

His D is good to great, but not elite. Not hating on the guy, just surprised by so high expectations being put on him.

Yeah, but Okobo was reminding of RW to some and was high on many people's boards. :D The dreams are free.

Wrong. His D is elite. There is no question about it. He is one of the best defenders in the league. His offense will not be on the PG level though.

Suns fans just do not appreciate good D. He is 7th in the league in steals/36 and if you think the /36 stat is flawed, he has more minutes than everyone else ahead of him on that list. And steals aren't even the best part of his D. He is an underappreciated defender league wide, but that will change.
