Acquiring Amare and his contract would give us the option to be a player in next year's free agency period. Or we could trade him for a disgruntled star before the trade deadline. We don't need draft picks for this deal to make sense.

I think jumping the gun on minimum salary. Nothing really has happened in free agency or the trade market yet. Players cannot even sign a contract until Thursday I believe.

So, at this point, a bit premature to think the Suns will not increase salary. Bledsoe alone would probably do the trick.

The idea of taking back a contract and assets is sound. I am just not sure that the Knicks have enough assets to make taking Amare worth it. Shump plus a future pick. But that pick has to be along way into the future and that is $22 million to pay. Amare would come off the books next summer so it would not hinder next year's free agency, but Shumpert really has no future here. He would have to be flipped for something else.

If the Suns have 24m to spend between Amare and Iman for a future first rounder - just as well call up Gasol and offer $26m for TWO years and see if he wants the cash.

Granted we would lose cap space with my deal where Amare just comes off the books

But he looks DONE to me - and the kNicks have zero assets - so I just don't see a real fit

I think Amares contract is an asset. I mentioned before, but we could trade Amare for KLove and Kevin Martin. We take Martin's contract and because of that we might not have to give up Dragic. The Wolves do it because no one else is bidding on Love and they don't want to lose him for nothing at the end of the season so at least this way they get rid of a bad contract.

But why do that? Why not just take Love and Martin straight up without Amare? Amare's contract is not an asset if you already have the cap space. If Minnesota wants to dump Martin's contract and is willing to do that as some sort of compensation for losing love, they could just trade both to Phoenix and save paying Amare $20 million for this year.

He sure is acting like his free agency is over and a deal is done.

If the Wolves were willing to trade Love and Martin for just Amare's expiring contract, don't you think the Knicks would have done that trade already?

Post of the day!

The Wolves don't want just cap space - they want young talent - still not sure they they turned down GSW - and possibly draft picks

Cap space is garbage if nobody wants to go there.

I'm not one to get hopes up and all, but I think you guys talking like LeBron to CLE or MIA is a done thing are either doing so the set your expectations low or are simply following the masses in that conclusion.

Nothing I've seen, read or discerned gives one group the advantage.

Take away all of the media, the Suns seem like the obvious choice to me.

I have no idea what LeBron is thinking right now, but the Heat have a track record of cutting players he felt were important to winning games and they have little to no roster flexibility, depth or youth.

The Cavs? I really don't understand why everyone thinks that's a "good story"..... Um, LeBron is still a person with emotions.... if the owner of the team wrote an idiot letter in comic sans that has been posted on their team website for FOUR years and fans were widely shown to have been burning my jersey city-wide when I left..... I'd never go back there. They could go **** themselves for all I care.

How are those two the "obvious" choices? The Cavs don't even have cap space right now.

Report: Danny Ainge still working on trade to bring Kevin Love to Celtics dlvr.it/6G59WV

So the celtics are pushing us to get into a trade with them so the end result gets them love. Now I understand where are this boston/ind/phx trade talk comes from. Ainge always shoots for the top. Thats what I'm hoping Ryan Mcd is doing.

We need to start listing the remaining free agents side by side with team cap availabilities for quick reference! With each team that signs a free agent the field narrows a bit more. And as much as I will miss Frye that 7 footer we stashed overseas looks pretty good as a potential stretch 4 replacement a couple years.
Everybody dies but not everybody truly lives.

http://www.si.com/nba/2014/07/07/clevel ... ree-agency

really says it all. Cleveland is really the worst choice of the ones he is considering. Even playing in the West, his chances would be better on the Suns or Rockets compared to Heat or Cavs. The only reason he has for not coming to Phoenix amidst all of the benefits we can offer him would be some kind of irrational bias against the city, in which case I don't even think I want him.

I think Miami is getting LeBron and Bosh to go along with Wade

When they signed Granger and McRoberts using exception s - that pretty much meant, no cap space. I think I read they have about $55m of cap space. LeBron - $21; Bosh - $17; Haslem - $3m leaves about $14m for Wade - which might be tight - but basically, there is no money left over like there was talk at the beginning.

The Suns are the logical choice, but sometimes family and home win over logic.

Anyone else notice Vegas odds for the cavs to win championship has now changed favoring them. Does Vegas know something?

Vegas odds for cavs to make the finals changed from 40-1 to now 10-1. They obviously think lebron is going back.

I dont think you quite understand how the Salary Floor works. We dont have to hit a minimum. If we dont hit whatever the floor is considered to be, the only thing that happens is whatever we are under (say in this case $5M), that amount ($5M) is then spread out to all players on the team for the year. In essence the players all receive a temporary pay grade promotion for the year.

So we dont have to waste cap space on FA's looking for multi-year deals OR Amare's horrible one.

Amare is broken. We knew that years ago, hence why we didnt want to keep him. He himself doesnt realize it yet and still fancy's himself a star player and would soon be disgruntled if he came here and didnt get the start over Keiff and had his minutes limited due to us wanting to give our young talent time to shine and develop. Thats when Amare turns into a lockeroom cancer and really isnt worth whatever asset NY would give us to take him off their hands.
