Bender is not the player you hope to be and I'm afraid he will never be. He just doesn't have IT. I rember him in Maccabi. He was under Vujacic's arms and Vujacic was calling all the shots in Maccabi. They gave him many chances, something totally unusual in Europe. But he was that bad, that they have to put him in B team. He shouldn't be drafted that high. He's just opposite to Doncic. Doncic wants the ball no matter what, he's full of energy, will to play, to succeed and win. Bender just doesn't want that much. You should trade him as early as possible.
He said stretch the floor. Literally no one is comparing him to Doncic.

I compared Doncic's passion to Bender's lack of it. If you understand, what I wanted to say, good, if not, good too. And I advise you again to use ignore button, if you have problems with me. Look you drafted that, http://www.euroleague.net/competition/players/showplayer?pcode=004549&seasoncode=E2015
On paper, for Americans, Bender looked like Porzingis 2.0, but in reality he was just very average prospect, who was drafted way to high. No way he can even play in good club in Europe.

Fine, we got it. I just mentioned him in a lineup. You don't have to repeatedly tell us how much you think he sucks. I mean if you really want to talk about him we have a Bender thread, but this is our #1 pick thread.

I wouldn't normally, but Villalobos is on my back whatever I say and I just wanted to explain, why I compared him to Doncic. But I have no problem to apologize again. On the other hand it's true that things are becoming tiresome.

Doncic is much better than Doncic was. Doncic was second fiddle to Dragic on the National Team in 2017. Doncic is the EuroLeague MVP - Youngest EVER! There just is no comparing Doncic to Doncic, Doncic just outclasses him in every way. He's bigger, stronger, and faster than Doncic ever was.

This Amare comparison is crazy
Stat was pure power, he was feared and wanted to humble everyone AND he did. later he developed a money jumper. He also had great hands to go with master dishman Nash.
Granted, I haven’t watched Ayton like many here... but come on, there’s good and then there is ferociously good.
But I get it

All star bigs do not grow on trees
1) Offensive-oriented all-star bigs not currently playing in conference finals
2) Al Horford, a defensive big averaging 14/8 for his career, is the last all-star big standing.
3) Current seven+ footers in the playoffs seeing limited minutes
4) Not sure Ayton is going to get the volume of shots needed to get 20 per game (Booker, Jackson will take more)
Doncic is a 21/7.6/6.7 per 36 minute player in Euroleague.
NBA players who have averaged 20/6/6 per 36 ... http://bkref.com/tiny/483dU
Hard to not look at the all-around player with a very high BBIQ.

In addition, it's not like regular posters around here haven't made themselves well-heard on the topic. If you want to go in-depth on Bender, that's fine, but it's complicated. 2016 was a pretty rough draft. I was out on a limb advocating Sabonis over Bender and Chriss for a long time, and it was IMO that Murray was probably *technically* the BPA at 4, but I agreed with the consensus that he was a poor fit next to Booker. I probably would have taken Dejounte Murray at 13 rather than trade up for Chriss. Whatever.
It's still too early to render judgement on all of those guys. Based on my expectations, Chriss's, but not Bender's, ceiling has dropped a bit. Both are at least off their floors. Now, I'd rather have Bender than Sabonis - because Bender's still really interesting. He didn't have a great season last year, but he did play all 82 games. Check. He's a 7-footer who plays like a guard on offense - frustrating, but at times really interesting. There were a few nights when he was hitting the long ball - a 7 footer who occasionally goes lights out is a pretty fantastic weapon. Then he'd have long spells of not being able to contribute much. Yeah, we've watched the games.saintEscaton wrote:Bender is a poor man's Nemanja Bjelica
Nemanja Bjelica is 30. Over the course of his three-year career, he's shot 37% from 3. Bender shot 36% last year. How you can even pretend that Bjelica is a relevant point of comparison is beyond me.

Plus.... the dude is a beast at 19
Put another 15-20 lbs on him
Oh brother..... I think his mentality also fits with chippy Book and scowly Jackson
Just reeks as a ‘can’t miss’ pick
Again, I think it’s easier to add players around Doncic and that’s mandatory to take the next step.
We are lucky to having such a debate

Re: The Draft Thread: Ayton Vs Doncic 1
who would be harder to stop on offense: Doncic or Ayton?
Doncic may be the way the league is going, but those teams never had a chance at a guy like Ayton.
He’s big enough that you can’t put PJ Tucker on him, and he has enough range that he can stay on the floor. I could see him defending the perimeter, even if he can’t do it yet.
Easier for a 19 year old to learn things than Towns, and that’s because his brain has six years to develop. That’s scientific fact.

Of the players who averaged 20 ppg last season, Karl-Anthony Towns got it with the least amount of shots at 14.3 FGA per game. Embiid got it on 16.8 FGA (6th least). I'm pretty sure we've got enough shots for Ayton.
