Is it legal for players to play with a layer of padding around their body?

Doesn't it seem like he would choose the repair in 4-6 month option given he will be a free agent or does that solely depend on how bad it is and the quick option could be just as effective long term? It's also hard to know what his camp believes is the better option to get a better contract...does he try to get more healthy long term with the bigger procedure or get back quickly and hope to play great and stay healthy the remainder of the season?

I think suns need to trade Johnson or CP3. We won’t be seriously competing with Johnson injured this season

Typically if it can be repaired it should be, that's the longer recovering though.

Re: Welcome Cam Johnson
The Suns announce that Cam Johnson needs surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
The options are meniscus debridement (shaving out) versus repair (sewing together). The choice of which one is based on the exact tear, pattern, and location. Debridement typically has a 6-8 week return timeline whereas repair can be 4-8 months.

Re: Welcome Cam Johnson
The word expressed in that announcement from the Suns is REPAIR, so it seems Cam Johnson will be out for the season.
EDIT: The word repair was used by Marc Stein, it's not in the official announcement from the Suns.
Not sure if Stein knows already the procedure or he just used it without any additional info.

Same thing happened with Bledsoe. He opted to remove it instead of repair and cashed in on his big contract but we all saw how fast he fell off a cliff. Unless you are already towards the end of your career I think repairing it is the obvious choice for longevity.
Sucks we are without Cam but I'm glad he's making the choice that will allow him to have a longer career.

I guess this is why he was red flagged in the draft.
Just sucks.

Re: Welcome Cam Johnson
Oof. I'm currently going through a torn meniscus thing due to work (out on worker's comp currently), and it SUCKS. MRI came back as a "small tear" and some other crap wrong with my knee (have a Baker's Cyst that got the size of like... half a tennis ball over the course of a month or two trying to get through my 6 month probationary period). Been through twice a week physical therapy for the past 7 weeks and tried to step up my workouts this weekend, which I think set things back a few weeks, as it's sore again and the lump returned a bit. Of course I don't have millions of dollars to heal quicker/better like NBA players/teams do. But yeah, even a small meniscus tear that they won't even operate on is royally **** my life up.

How did it happen? You mention it's a worker's comp thing but what was the action that caused it?

Bro. I had one myself about 8 years ago after a trip to Vegas. It was tough. I elected not to do surgery. Mine was only partially torn. I wore a knee brace for awhile after along with the physical therapy that you mentioned. I found that swimming along with acupuncture helped out a lot. This was all after the appropriate healing time had passed.
It's a tough injury and I am no professional ball player obviously. I can only imagine what Cam has to go through as you need a lot of stamina in order to go through a 82 game season plus playoffs.
I hope you and him heal good and get back to 100%

I work for an internet/cable company doing installations. During training I had to gaff a pole and do a bunch of stuff to pass that week. I had finished stretching and it was my turn to go when a manager came to speak to the group of us right as I was about to go up the pole. He talked to us for like 45-60 minutes and we were running behind, so I didn't have time to stretch again. As I started going up the pole I felt a pop and just figured I pulled a muscle because I got tight again. Had like 2 months of in-class training after that, and nothing physical at all, so I didn't really think about it too much. When I was finally out on my own though, it started to slowly creep back in, and the cyst got bigger and bigger. They happen when there's other underlying trauma to the knee. We were on 6 day workweeks the entire summer (so like... 3 months straight), and it just got to the point where I'd fall occasionally while trying to walk or get up from bed. Given that I climb poles and am 25 feet in the air and there's a point where I'm not safely connected to anything on the way up and the way down, I didn't feel comfortable relying on my leg that kept giving out to not give out while way in the air. Took a few weeks to start physical therapy and then a couple weeks after that to get an MRI approved. By that point, I was pretty much just lying in bed all day every day outside of PT, so the lump pretty much went away. I dunno... it's a weird injury, and I feel weird just lying around all day, but the alternative is limping profusely and getting a giant lump on the back of my leg again. Have a doctor's appointment Friday that I was hoping would be the one where I told her I was ready to go back, but after trying to increase intensity of workouts, I don't think I am. Sorry for the TL;DR.

Yeah, i have a brace on almost all the time. I just want to feel normal again. Like I can't even do a squat, or walk up a flight of stairs normally. It's depressing.

It does suck. All I can say is listen to your Dr's about when to start up again. Building stamina was my hardest part. Getting full movement and such too. I had a job that had me walking alot so that didn't help. That's why I liked swimming as it builds strength more passively as well as helps with the stamina part so the leg/knee doesn't get tired.
Acupuncture as well helped me at least as I think it helped the blood flow and the muscle soreness. That's stuff you wait on till healed fully and maybe talk to your Dr about though as everyone is different.

Damn that sucks...I've been lucky not to have any major injuries. I suppose that's one of those injuries that doesn't seem serious immediately and instead just lingers and gets worse over time. I've had a thing in my left shoulder for like 6mths now and I can no longer bench more than 50lbs without pain. Haven't gone to the docs about it, I just work around it and hope it goes away eventually...
I work an office job so it's not really an issue but yeah wouldn't be surprised if I've torn something or have bursitis or something

I'd get it looked at. Only reason I didn't get mine looked at sooner was because of the stupid 6 month probationary period where I felt like they'd just let me go if I said anything prior, so I worked on it for at least a month or two just getting worse and worse. Job pays well, so I definitely didn't want something like this to make me lose it. Hope it feels better soon for you. I am doing my best to stay positive about my own recovery, and it could be worse. At least I'm getting a portion of the money I'd be making working to keep me afloat. If I was working an office position I'd definitely be at work right now, and sometimes I wish I had an office job again. It feels like prison, sure, but at least you don't have to think about falling off a pole.

Great news! Around six weeks and he will be back to the court.
I heard yesterday the Timeline Podcast and they were talking with a doctor that said that it’s not always possible to repair the meniscus depending on different things so that could be the case.
