Oh god, i might have to rethink the Bane pick if that really is his phone connected. Anyone that chooses T-Mobile over Verizon is hella Suspect in my book!

Spoiler:

EDIT: Nevermind, its Fake News. Found a post from well over a year ago stating:

Kelly Oubre registered his iPhone with the name Bane. Nothing more to see here but I'm sure a few of you are daddy Oubre stans like me and will care.

Bane Andretti is like his 3rd alter ego.

Booh this man for killing my hopes!

If this trade does go through, we should finally get more fouls called our way...

I hope any CP3 trade doesn't go through as it's extremely risky. It seems very short sighted since CP3 has at best 2 good years as opposed to Rubio who can likely play another 5. I know CP3 will be better over the next 2 seasons than Rubio but I don't think we are at that stage yet that we are trying to seriously contend for a championship. Ayton is still growing, Bridges is still growing, Cam is still growing. Even Oubre. In two seasons Lebron will be 37, Durant and Curry will be 34. Meanwhile Booker, Ayton, Bridges, Oubre will be entering their prime. Rubio will only be 32.

I do think that CP3 can probably improve the play of Ayton and Booker and can teach them a lot. I'm just not sure if it's worth the gamble, especially with CP3's injury concern.

I actually thought about this when Winhorst said that the suns would be able to to first use 20 mil to sign a free agent and then trade for Chris Paul.

Combining this the story that it was Paul who reached out to Phoenix, I wonder if there's a plan for them to team up together in Phoenix.

Paul
Booker
Bridges
Galinari
Ayton

Would be a deadly staring line up.

I'm guessing the likely hood of Sarver going on a spending spree during a covid season is highly unlikely though

Am I the only one feeling extremely nervous about this?

Much as I like what James Jones has done in raising the floor of this team, I do NOT trust his or Bower's deal making ability. The Warren and Jackson/Melton trades should serve as reminders.

I can see OKC squeezing us badly in this deal especially since there is now some public pressure on us to complete the deal. Fully expect us to part with #10 in this deal, and have nothing in return.

I like the idea of Paul on this roster, but it's worth remembering that we'll be fully capped out in 2022 once the Ayton and Mikal extensions kick in. We absolutely need some good rookies on this team who can continue to develop with the team.

Gallo is a great offensive player, but he's even more injury prone than Paul. Plus he's an average defender at best.

For the 15+ million he'd cost, I just don't think he's worth it especially considering that signing him almost certainly means we'd have no money to add any depth.

I think I'd rather use the cap space to bring back Saric and Carter and target somebody like Millsap, Jae Crowder or Justin Holiday at about 7-8 million a year.

If we add Paul, I think having good depth will be more important than having good offense at the 4.

Are we still complaining about last years draft day trades? The trades that gave us the ability to sign Rubio and Oubre and bought back Carter...?

Agreed, But hopefully IF they cave in and surrender the 10th pick in the deal, We'll be aggressive enough to still add 2 nds for depth. We need backcourt depth and frontcourt depth. Particularly guard and wing depth post trade. With that being said, even with Sarver potentially being frugal with consideration to Paul's incoming salary commitment, I believe that we can still find very solid depth options in the mid to late and even undrafted ranges.

I'll be posting my list for high potential 2nd round steals that we can use to fill out our roster at the lowest possible cost. Allowing us to focus the majority of our limited remaining cap space for free agency.

I apologize in advance for mentioning this in the trade/ offseason thread. But I find it to be relevant to our post trade cap/ roster considerations. :D

I think his concern is more centralized around the salary commitment of Paul's huge salary, And the potential for greatly reduced depth as a result of the ensuing restricted flexibility to address roster needs. Additionally, The importance of legitimate and substantial low cost roster depth to help sustain our core starters without having to play them excessive minutes and risk potential injuries. But also give us a modicum of insurance in the inevitable likelihood of random injuries during this upcoming condensed season that will be brutal and unrelenting for teams. :D

Hopefully, Jones has a solid contingency plan for our depth.

I was 100% in the same boat as you when I first read about the CP3 rumors but this is my take now

lilfishi22 wrote:He is a massive gamble but while we look at CP3 from a short term lens, I think you could also look at the long term benefits/prospects. Ayton and Bridges will both be extension eligible next season and you absolutely want to be able to put them in the best situation possible to succeed on the court and there's no better guy than Chris Paul to be honest. Once Ayton and Bridge's extension kicks in, it will be CP3's last at $44m. So we'll carry a massive salary number for one season only with the possibility of offloading it. I also want to leave as little doubt as possible as to the contract value of Ayton and Bridges once they come up for extension. So I see it as less of a win-now move in the sense that we're getting CP3 to lead us to a title but rather CP3 being the catalyst to getting our young guys to that next level.

When you have Booker with 4 years left on his deal, Ayton/Bridges becoming extension eligible soon and a head coach in Monty who's ready to coach at that next level, you want put these next 2 years into focus and give the guys the best chance at developing into winners because that's how you build winning teams.

It's really a fast tracking of our young player's development IMO rather than fast tracking of genuine championship contention. Essentially, Booker/Bridges will be hitting their prime in the next 2 season and Ayton will start to hit his towards the end of Booker's deal and in this timeline of 4 seasons (Booker's deal), you want to have as much team success as possible to not just develop our young players but also show that this is a team that's worth playing for in the eyes of free agents.

I think we have to accept the fact that even though Booker is still young by NBA standards, players who become stars early in their career will also expect at least some team success early in their career. Booker will be going into the 2nd year of his 5 yr extension and so far the only success he's been able to experience is what 8 games? He has 4 seasons left before he could decide to go elsewhere soo we have 4 seasons to show we're not some treadmill team afraid to take a risk. Whether we like it or not our new timeline has been pushed forward by Booker's development into a real NBA star and that bubble performance (small sample but still).

James Jones seems to prefer players who have a rich injury history or concern. Even his draft last year reflected that.

Now our top 2 targets are reportedly Chris Paul and Danilo Gallinari. I don’t understand why we don’t throw MLE or something at Greg Oden, I remember reading about how he wanted to make a comeback. Derrick Rose gotta be a trade candidate as well (unfortunately not a FA yet).

If CP3 can save us 10m+ in FA by getting guys excited to come here I think he can be well worth his contract.

What if CP3 means we can get multiple contracts like:

Dario @6m per
Gallo @10m per
JHoliday @ 7m per
Wood @10m per
Ibaka @10m per

They were bad trades. We could have simply released Jackson for instance to accomplish the signings mentioned. Also, we traded for Oubre and he was already on the team so not sure what you are talking about. I'm guessing you meant Saric, but the major snafu was Jackson's trade, and it was and still is inexcusable.

Well we couldn't afford more than 2 of those guys, if that.
