That's actually not a bad starting point.

Replace Booker with a few other assets and pull that trigger.

How about a future top 5 protected pick + Bender?

Bender an a top 5 protected? I think NY would hang up the phone before even taking that call.

Any trade that doesn't involve Booker would probably have to include Chriss, Bender, the 4th, and 1 or 2 additional 1st round picks down the line.

To clarify:

Instead of: Booker + #4

We offer: #4, + Bender, + a Future Top 5 protected 1st round pick

So NYK get 2017 #4, Bender (who was a 2016 #4), and another likely lottery pick in the near future.

Hell, I'd even do top 3 on the protection.

I think I might do a Butler deal though and keep Bledsoe, but only after talking to Blake..... otherwise take our time.

+1. if you're gonna go for Butler, you better pick a direction and stick with it, and that means going after Blake too

Been saying this all day since I listened to the Podcast yesterday that he said it on. He sounded like he wanted to, too. Stuff like "they're young and it'd be nice to get in on that". If he could play the 5 for us, and can land Butler..something like

Warren + #4 + Mia Pick for Butler

That probably is a good place to start. Might have to throw in Bender or something. But running with

Bled/Ulis
Book/??
Butler/??
Chriss/Sauce
Blake/Chandler

Fill in some holes and that's a team we can run with and get in the top 4 in the West. Right?

You didn't listen to it? The podcast "Pardon my Take". He was being facetious, because he was talking about a "Mount Rushmore of NBA Cities". His 2nd one was Phoenix and cited that it's a young up and coming 'city' and that it'd be nice to get in on that before they really take off, he ahead of the game kind of thing.

I think it has more to do with whether the C's keep their pick. If they do, he's probably their guy. Otherwise, who knows.

Surprised we hear all this supposed Jackson love regarding Ainge when they haven't even met him yet.

Yeah, he apparently blew off the workout. It really doesn't make sense. I don't understand why the agent would want a guarantee without a workout.

I don't think he wants to go there, or his agent doesn't at least, so he's trying to get them to pass on him. He has to fight for playing time over Crowder and Brown, and that's before they try and get Hayward or another all-star SF. He may have a promise from #4 and doesn't want to risk an injury in a useless workout and fall in the draft. If he goes to a bad team he'll have more playing time, put up bigger stats, and get more attention and even something like Rookie of the Year. That's almost certain not to happen in Boston.

I'd probably even do that without protection.

That he wants to get his player playing the game. If he is in Boston he is likely going to be stuck behind Jae Crowder, Gerald Green and Jaylen Brown. If he was drafted by the 76ers or Lakers he would have gotten some playing time and if he was drafted by the Suns or Kings he would likely start before the end of the year.

The moment that Phil Jackson opened his mouth Melo's value dropped into the floor not that it was much higher to begin with but are still people out there who think he was worth something because he came out the great 2003 draft class and he could do something other then putting meaningless points on the board.

Jackson at 4 hype is getting way too real for me right now. I have a bad feeling that Boston won't let it happen though. Suns getting lucky? Nah, never gonna happen.

yeah. I'm starting to get hopeful if Boston keeps the pick. But they could easily give it away for PG/Butler. :-?

Well then why do they want a promise from them before a workout? I guess I can understand if he wants to go to Phoenix, or especially Sacramento where they just lost Rudy Gay. But it's also maybe costing him and his agent money.

They also worked out with the Lakers who just drafted Ingram. It will be very interesting to see who we draft and if Jackson drops all the way to 5. That would be pretty crazy. But it's beginning to look like either Boston trades the pick for Butler so Chicago may take Jackson, or Jackson will slip to us.

Jackson was pretty much my guy from day one, so I hope boston keeps the pick and draft Tatum - as they should. Crowder, Brown or JJ will get lost in that shuffle otherwise.

To me, the whole point is their demand is an unreasonable contradiction so that Boston passes, and a message saying, "Please don't draft me" without actually saying it. You do workouts so someone will be impressed with you to pick you. Same is true if they're not giving Boston his medical info. Doing the opposite makes a team not want to pick you. Like how players have treated Sacramento the last few years.

Only way it makes sense to me is if a more favorable team gave him a promise right above or right below, like Phoenix or the Lakers. I don't see the Lakers promising him with Lonzo around, so it's probably Phoenix. Maybe even Sac.

As for losing money. Consider this: he gets drafted by Boston and doesn't look great so most of his playing time goes to Hayward/Crawford/Brown. Less stats, less highlights, less attention, no RoY, and because of those things he gets less attention from sponsors; that's already less money right there. Fast forward to the end of his rookie deal and he's still not getting the minutes and stats he wants. He may get a smaller contract as an RFA from a team who doesn't need him all that much. Other teams may not want to give him a ton because he hasn't proven enough playing behind other, better guys. That contract is much, much more important than a slight increase in rookie scale money from #4 to #3.

Return to Phoenix Suns
