I'm all for drafting a young guard and in the best case I'd keep Redd as a mentor. But I think Dudley could be a very good starter at SF and Childress showed that he is a solid backup. We don't need another SF at this point unless we decide to trade (just to make sure this is the right thread  ) Dudley or use the amnesty clause on Childress.

BTW, I still think that Grant will finish his career in Phoenix, even if Nash leaves.

When Grant signed this year, he hinted that he almost took another interesting offer, the money we offered him was an offer he couldnt refuse. He wont get 6 mil from us next time, and he wont sign for the 3 mil or so he kept signing for before.

Grant always used other team as his leverage to get a better contract. He did it with Boston and New York. After he signed the contract he said that he wants to retire in Phoenix.

He hopes to end his career with the Suns and says "Hopefully, they feel the same way."

As for the Nene trade. I don't want him and his 52 million contract on this team even if we can get a first round pick for it.

Hill Walks leaving us

Dudley and Childress

I think we will amnesty childress leaving us dudley.

I want dudley to play off the bench as a 2 or 3 so we can bring in a free agent or youth in draft at SF.

if Washington would do Gortat and Warrick for Nene.

I would take that! it gives us an equivalent center to Gortat and we get rid of Warricks deal.

Warrick's deal ends after next season and Nene is on the books for the next four years at 13 million each. But you're right we're getting rid of Warrick's deal.

Nene's contract is pretty bad, and would be debilitating for us in this current situation.

Don't they also still have rashard lewis' toxic contract on their books as well man? I wonder how much they technically have tied up in those 2 players then? They may eventually (in some capacity) become a good trade partner wherein, We help them shed some payroll, while hopefully getting back a potential high! lottery pick for our troubles? I wonder IF they'd consider taking perhaps something along the lines of chilly, warrick and frye for rashard lewis, and an unconditional 2013-2014? lotto pick? :dontknow:

Probably not. They only have him for one more year.

Rashard Lewis remaining contract: $22.7M (expiring)
Edit: Plus Lewis' contract is only partially guaranteed for $13.7M his last year.

Hakim Warrick remaining contract: 2 years $8M (last year is a Team Option)
Channing Frye remaining contract: 3 years $19.2M
Josh Childress remianing contract: 3 years $21M

So Wizards give up an expiring $22.7M contract and take on a total of $48.mM in contracts from 3 mediocre players? What would they do with the mediocre players they currently have at these positions?
No way they do this even if we send an unprotected 1st in 2012-13.

Okay here's one that could generate some serious chatter
http://www.brightsideofthesun.com/2012/ ... -be-traded

Would it be reasonable to trade Amare for Childress straight up. Suns give the Knicks about $14M per year in cap space. Knicks do it because Amare and Melo don't play well together. Suns get a vital piece to the puzzle, get rid of player (Childress) who just hasn't fit in, and then go after Ray Allen.

Nash/Telfair
Allen/Redd
Dudley/Hill
Amare/Morris
Gortat/Frye

Let the flaming begin!

I don't see why Sarver would all of a sudden want Amare back. He could have matched the deal if he had wanted to, and now Amare has the new back issue, plus whatever this hand thing is. No way Sarver goes for it without any insurance on Amare's contract. And really, no reason he should.

Nash kept complaining about the defense of his bigs, so I can't see him wanting to return to the good old days of no defense from Amare.

I am very glad we didn't match the Amare deal. He isn't a team player, and he was more than glad to handcuff the team to get his scratch.

Amare's remaining contract: $20M, $21.7M, $23.4M :o :o :o

If Suns did this they would need to get a lot back for taking on Amares bad contract.

Suns trade: Childress / Warrick / Frye
Knicks trade: Amare / Lin / Shumpert (torn ACL and all....)

Amare back on the trainers table getting back into shape.

Lin backs up a newly resigned Nash. Lin wold eventually take over starting PG role if he continues to excel.

Shumpert becomes a lock-down defensive SG that also has offensive game.

Nash / Lin / Price
Allen / Shumpert / Dudley
Gortat / Chris Kaman (UFA)
Gerald Wallace / Dudley / Perry Jones III
Amare / Morris

Agreed that Sarver could have matched. As far as insurance goes best we could do is ask for some cash considerations. Some reasons why it might be a good idea

1) Gortat could focus on defense and rebounding ... what Suns center ever did that?
2) Nash wants a 20pt scorer ... Amare can still fill that role
3) Amare at 22pts and 9rb per game > Frye at 10pts 5.5rb per game
4) We do have best training staff in the league
5) Peanut butter and jelly, Ying and Yang, Nash and Amare ... somethings just go together
6) Nash and Amare could finish out their 3 year contracts together

There are a bunch of assumptions there. First, does Gortat not like scoring? If people think he is looks disinterested in playing now, let's see how completely taking him out of the offense works. Second, does Nash still want to play with Amare?

And how much cash considerations are we talking here, $20 million? :o

Was Amare a twenty point scorer this year?

Again, I still don't see Sarver going for it. Wasn't it was our med staff that suggested the clauses on Amare's deal? How do we convince them that they were wrong?

Yep it's a big azz contract no doubt and we'd be riding to the rescue. I don't think NYK will give up that much or want to take on Warrick or Frye. They want to resign Lin and Novak plus get another decent free agent. I don't see them giving up Shump either (maybe Fields but he is UFA).

So again Childress for Amare, a lottery protected first round pick, and some cash considerations. We could use the cash to amnesty Warrick. Suns get rid of two bad contracts and should be relevant for at three more years.

Agreed on the assumptions. I think we both agree Gortat is not a premier scorer. Yet he was the Suns first option and top scorer this season. In crunch time he is not the go to player we need. No matter who we pickup next year I don't think Gortat will be the 1st option.

Cash considerations ... enough to break even with a Warrick amnesty. Sarver is wasting almost $10M per year on Warrick and Childress. If he knew he was going to throw that much money away he should have just risked it on Amare.

I agree letting Amare go was a good idea ... problem is Sarver made the problem worse by wasting good money on crappy players. Is this a way out of it?? I don't see anyone knocking down our doors for Childress and Warrick.

Edit: As far scoring Amare generally put up good number so long as he got 13 shots or more. Problem is Melo is a black hole. If Amare was regularly getting 15-16 shots per game he would average 22-24 for the season. Plus he gets to line way more than Gortat and make his FTs.

Edit #2: If Nash doesn't want to play with Amare then sign Dragic. Amare/Felton played great pnr. Dragic/Amare would work too and Dragic is a better defender than Nash.

Warrick we can get rid of a bit easily by waiving him if there are no takers, or amnesty him. Chilldress would not have been a waste if we had a real head coach. Chilldress only made us better when he was on the court, and if he was allowed to play as a slasher, and not just stand around the three point line where he is no threat at all, he would have been viewed as an asset not a liability (which I still don't see him as a liability.)

However, if I had known we were going to miss the playoffs again, I would have forced Gentry to play Warrick a ton of minutes to push up his trade value. F*ck, I would have started him.

Gortat was forced to be our primary scorer, because the whole team sucked at shooting almost up to the allstar game. Just glad someone stepped up. Plus it seemed that the team really tried to get the inside game going to open up the outside game, and who were we supposed to turn to? Frye?

Return to Phoenix Suns
