Watson or Gaines...I would be surprised if it is not Watson. We will see if he plays the youngsters all the time and they play harder for him.

The thought of Hornacek leaving before Kieff is really upsetting.

Ok so Jeff is fired. What is accomplished by this firing? Seriously, what is the end state? The roster of this team is more of a problem than is (was) the coach.

Ryan Mcd should have fired himself while he was doing a firing. There is no coach in the league that can with with the garbage roster. When your best player is a 19 year old rookie, it pretty much means the team is a mess, regardless of his potential.

How is Markieff still on the this team when everyone on planet earth knows he was more of a problem than anyone on the Suns? Basically Ryan Mcd is the cause of this teams failures but Jeff is taking the blame. Ryan pieces together a Kia Rio and tells Jeff to go race in a NASCAR race and be sure to win. That's pretty much what's going on here.

I have zero, ZERO respect for Ryan mcdonough. Other than his first year, the dude has been an epic failure. The only positive thing he can put on his GM resume is he drafted a couple decent players.

I'm not saying Jeff is some kind of great coach, I'm saying no coach would win with this putrid roster.

So again the question remains, what is accomplished with this firing?
I am such a lucky NBA fan. 8647 My favorite team went from the most greedy and racist owner to the most ego driven dumbass owner in all of sports fdt.

How about making sure Markieff doesn't take touches away from the young guys who will be a part of this team going forward. I guess you didn't watch the game last night.

Hornacek was doing well driving the tank.

In any case.. The replacement better be on board with getting a top 2 pick.

Good luck to Hornacek... He will contribute on a veteran squad.

This!

A real owner makes sure Kieff is gone even if that meant trading for Frye. The point of dumping Kieff goes way beyond trying to get "like value." It sets a tone for how you run your team.

First it was 12/15 - Ryan Anderson - nope

1/15/2016: Corey Brewer - nope

now its the trade deadline

Bledsoe out , Knight out, Warren out, Price out
no real PG
Kieff is a warm body not giving a damn

I am not saying Hornacek was great but the problem, again, has to be Sarver

My money is Ryan had Kieff traded for a box of donuts but Sarver wanted "value"

I think Earl Watson is just going to slide into Hornacek's head coaching seat, at least for the rest of the season.

FIFY...I don't have a problem firing coaches. I DO have a problem firing HCs in the middle of the season, who is running a team without his $28M backcourt, a hobbled scoring talent (Warren), and a disgruntled employee.

So tell me Sarver, what do you expect from our next HC? If it's winning, well, you might want to tell your next HC to not bother unpacking, because he isn't going to last very long.

Hornacek will interview for a team within the week. Not even 2 years ago, he's 1st Runner-Up to COY, and now? He's out on his butt. He must've forgotten how to coach in the last 130 games.

Now, if Hornacek hasn't been 'following' Sarver's instructions on how to play, then I'm glad he's gone. He doesn't deserve to be micromanaged. Yep, next season Horny will lead a team to the Playoffs; too bad it won't be the Suns...

And if we get some HC that gets us 10-15 more wins, while sacrificing Goodwin's/Booker's/Warren's/Len's development, and if by getting a new HC, Markieff decides he now wants to stay on the Suns, I'm going to be rather upset.

IMO, Sarver just set this team back 3 years, especially if he decides to fire McD as well before the start of next season.

I'm not upset we fired him but would have much rather waited until the end of the season. Hopefully the new coach has a mandate from management to develop the youth and not a mandate to make the playoffs.

On the bright side, maybe now well roll with a lineup of Chandler/Len/Warren/Book/Goodwin for the rest of the season.

To be fair, GCU has the 7th highest win percentage in the nation right now. With as many small, crappy schools as are out there in D1 basketball, cupcake schedule or not that's pretty damn cool. Granted, the WAC is an awful conference, but they have a few solid wins out there including against New Mexico State and SDSU.

The Suns will interview assistant coaches today before choosing an interim head coach.

Corey Gaines, a former Phoenix Mercury head coach, was promoted from player development assistant to assistant coach before this season.
Earl Watson and Nate Bjorkgren, a former D-League head coach, were promoted to front-row assistants on Dec. 28 following the firings of assistant coaches Mike Longabardi and Jerry Sichting.

Come on guys. He HAD to go. He was a terrible coach who couldnt game plan against a blind team!

The players CLEARLY didn't want him there and gave zero effort. The players are far from perfect but a coach has to play with the hand he's been dealt and get them onside.

His tactics and rotations are/were awful and I'm fed up of looking at him on the side lines looking like a rabbit in the headlights whilst his team are falling apart because he's been out coached.

No he didnt HAVE to go. First of all we dont need the extra negative publicity that this will bring. Second, this team isnt winning with any other coach, and we dont even wanna win in the first place. Third, his contract literally finishes in a couple of months. The only thing we can complain about is his rotations and even that is honestly not that bad.

I do kind of agree with this.

I think we all had some emotional attachment to him because of his playing time here, because he seems like such a nice guy, because he led such a surprising turnaround two years ago, and because his daughter makes us feel some tingles in our lady-smashers.

My wife loved him, thought he was just so cute and whatever and blah blah shut up wife I've heard enough about the cutie-pie Suns coach. And even she, last night, said "Where is his passion? I don't ever remember Jeff getting fired up, he always looks so beaten up and exasperated on the sideline." Even she could see he just wasn't really doing it - his rotations are bad, he doesn't seem to get matchups.

He seems to be great at developing relationships with young players, Morrii not withstanding, and that's great because of our young roster, but at some point we need someone who can gather all this immense young talent on the court and find a way to put them in a position to win, and I think it became clear to everyone, even the most ardent defenders of Hornacek, that he just wasn't doing that.

I don't know that getting rid of him NOW, when we have a shot at a good draft pick, is the best idea, but I don't know that it's the worst idea either.

I agree that the timing is really odd. Hence I think something must be happening behind the scenes we aren't aware of to force their hand.

However I stand by my comment above and am delighted he's gone.
