Tolliver deal is much better than expected, no need to freak out.

Paul Coro ‏@paulcoro

Anthony Tolliver's #Suns deal is $3M each year but only $400K is guaranteed in the second year, a league source said.

Just saw that, much better deal. Not that $3M was some huge hit to begin with, but such a small second year guarantee makes me feel a lot better.

Good for us.

Again, if Tolliver can slot into the pick and pop well and our young players develop, we'll be just fine.

Losing Frye and Ish but adding IT, Tolliver and Warren is a net benefit.

With a healthy Bledsoe, we should be in the playoff hunt. I'm not saying we get any higher than the 8th seed, but we have one of the best chances at it.

Indeed! Toronto got Nogueira and Williams for John Salmons's non-guaranteed deal this summer. It's not just movable; it's an asset (and it's why we appeared to overpay).

I haven't calculated the cap holds, but it seems to me that the answer is yes if we renounce our free agents, no if we don't. Anyone who cares to be provide clarity on this would be appreciated for their efforts.

Look at my post #44 here. viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1335460&start=40

I believe it is correct, except for the Tolliver signing, which could only be a $400K cap hit if we waived him.

The way I see it, Portland was mostly healthy other than McCollum (a rookie) and Aldridge missed a few games. They were 31-9 in their first 40 and 23-19 in their next 42. http://www.basketball-reference.com/tea ... games.html

Which team are they?

Houston will take a step back.

GS should be good if healthy, but they will always have injury possibilities. They also have a new coach which could help or could hurt.

I see the west playing out like this if everyone is completely healthy

OKC
Memphis
SA
LAC

The above four will be really close and could finish in any order. After that I'd say

Dallas (though there is a decent chance they are in the above group with their additions and Carlisle getting the most out of everyone)
GS
Houston
Phoenix

Portland
Minnesota (if they keep Love)

I think we could be right there with Houston and GS though if healthy, but Portland and Minnesota could also be right there.

Ok, makes me feel better. Tolliver is simply a roster filler. Now I see what Ryan is doing. Sorta going down the lakers idea of thinking. Just sign short contract and try to be a player in free agency next year. Not saying I like the idea but I understand it.

Since we are not going to be contenders, I pry they focus on developing the young guys.

I didn't particularly like Randolph. I'd prefer Amundson.

... Why not Ekpe Udoh?

Really just want to see big minutes from Len, Archie, warren, and Ennis. Since we are waving the white flag

I don't think Ennis is going to get much time at all. Archie is probably only going to get like 6 a game. It is a real shame. Even Warren is going to have trouble getting time especially if Green plays the three a lot.

Man I really want the young guys to get minutes as well. I'm just not sure if it is going to work out. :(

Agreed. I'll add that Marcus Morris is better than tolliver and should net the minutes leftover by Keef. Keef as starter should net about 32mimutes and the rest will go by Marcus' better shooting ability. If they re sign bled I still think we're better than we were last year though we will be crushed in the paint and on glass by all the top tier teams. I actually like the bench cuz Marcus and warren compliment each other and Thomas and green can take on primary scoring duties. Archie still had to prove he can play outside of driving in the lane

I don't see the need to rush Archie. He's still only going to be like 20 this year, and he clearly still has stuff to learn. We're loaded at guard, why not still bring him along slowly, be patient, give him some spot duty and see what happens next season?

Wow, that surpising he'd take that over Charlotte's 5/44 offer. 8.8 million a year for 5 years seems better than 9 million a year for 3. Maybe he feels his value will skyrocket and with the salary cap potentially going way up, in two years he will be a big time player.

If Charlotte can keep him under control, they are going to be pretty tough, especially if Vonleh develops quicky.

Potentially? The NBA gets about $450 million from ABC/ESPN and $400 million from TNT. They expect this number to double. The salary cap is going up. I read somewhere in the range of $77-$83 million in two years. Setting himself up for a bigger payday in 2 years. Smart agent.

As free agency continues, the contract amounts seem to be dropping. I wonder what Bledsoe is going to sign for. I can see it now. Bled had a promise for the max if he and his agent could lure LeBron (total speculation). No can do. Now its "No soup for you!"

The longer this goes, the more reasonable Bledsoe's contract gets. Right now I would say we are in the 10-11 million per year range.
