No, I don't think they miss, but anything is possible even with an injury. I take it you mean that's the only way they lose the pick.

They could actually make it and lose the pick, if they got the 7 or 8 seed (though that would require the entire east playoff field to all have better records). It is only protected through 12. https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed

But I do think the playoff race will be very tight with LA, LA, Utah, Denver, GS, Dallas, Memphis and maybe Portland. 6 teams would have to be better than us, which is unlikely if we are relatively healthy, but I could easily see us in that 4-5 range and it could be really tight in there again.
I think you're thinking this pick is 'reverse' protected like the suns did with that Bledsoe trade but it's definitely not. It's protected top 12 next year so that means the only way it's not going to OKC is if the suns are picking top 12. Which sure it could happen if injuries hit but that's why you get the protections for that worst case scenario.

Well, for whatever reason I was thinking about it correctly in terms of proection but for some reason had in my mind that the first 12 picks were the 12 best teams, which obviously makes no sense. And then next year we'd have to be one of the 10 best and the following one of the 8...but it's worst.

So it's actually almost certain we lose it in 2025. Hopefully that year we are good enough to make the playoffs. The good thing is even though Denver, Utah, Dallas, Memphis and maybe Minnesota will be likely playoff teams, some of the others may have fallen off due to age by then..GS has been lucky enough, if they keep their picks, that they will have a nice bridge. Curry can probably play until he's pretty old and they could have a more improved Wiggins, Wiseman and their two picks this year unless they trade them for something (which may be probable).

The Pelicans could be good too. We should still certainly be in the playoff mix in 24-25 too if Booker improves in a couple areas and stays in 24 and we address future PG by then.
I still don't think you're viewing this correctly is you say the suns almost certainly lose it in 2025. Unless you think the suns will be one the the 12 worst teams in the league next year.

They almost certainly will lose it next season.

I think we had guys like Carter/Galloway/Moore/Nader who we had ready for the playoffs just in case something happened to CP3 or Booker, but in the regular season these guys got very very little minutes actually played, and when they did it was mostly garbage minutes after we had already won. I believe me might keep one or two of those guys but the majority will be sent packing and those few garbage minutes will be given to guys like Shamet and Alexander instead for development.

CP3/Payne/?????
Booker/Shamet/Alexander
Bridges/Johnson/??????
Crowder/Smith/???????
Ayton/??????/??????

If that's the case, Johnson at backup 4, Smith at backup 5 (3rd strin

CP3/Payne/Neto
Booker/Shamet/Alexander
Bridges/Johnson/Nader
Crowder/Johnson/Smith
Ayton/Noel/SmithMoses Wright or Amiir Simms

That leaves 2 spots, which you add one more 4/5 and one more 3/4 at the minimum unless you use your BAE...then we have 2 two ways open for the undrafted guys. I think that would be a fine lineup.

Smith 3rd string 4 and 5 though man? Or you mean Whoever we might add from the undrafted pool right? Amir Simms or Moses Wright perhaps? I wouldn't be at all upset with Sandro either as I'm sure you're aware!

John Gambadoro (@Gambo987) Tweeted:
Have been told it is highly unlikely Suns find a way back into the first round for those asking. Felt like Landry Shamet could help a lot more than the 29th pick and Monty's familiarity with him was a key to the trade.

Barnes is an interesting fit in Toronto with Siakam there.

Someone will. I don't think it will be us, though.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

I’m glad something good happened for Orlando. Cole and Suggs backcourt will be a very good one once those guys hit their primes.

GS going with an extremely raw dude here is a bit surprising. This section of this draft is kind of meh IMO.

Davion Mitchell is a very interesting pick by the Kings considering they have Fox and Haliburton

Yeah, I'm still thinking about it backwards in some way. We should definitely lose it next year. If we miss the playoffs it's possible we keep it but I doubt we miss.
