Will we extend Bridges or will Sarver not pay 4 players big money for 1 or 2 years?

I'm just thinking something around 105/3. Maybe he'll even settle around 93/3, So we can afford at least 1 minor upgrade to the roster?? :dontknow:

He can sign a max contract this summer for something like $140M/3 years ($47M per season) but I think that he will sign with us after opting out for a bit less than that.

I have been saying for a while that $120M/3 years is what I think he will get. That would be an slight paycut for next year ($40M in place of $44M) but he would get more security.

He is playing great and teams know that he has enough gas in the tank for at least a couple more seasons. He will get big offers and sign&trade offers.

My biggest gripe is there is no actual Power Forward on this roster. Saric is a natural small forward forced to play Power forward right now, Jae is a natural small forward as well and Ayton has no real back up. Wish we could solidified the front line better.

Worries me a little bit concerning the Bucks. When both Lopez and Giannis play together is my only concern when we have to play them. Both are legit 7 footers. Granted Lopez likes to play more at the 3 point line at this stage of his career. But the last Bucks-Hawks game, Lopez dominated the post. Ayton is going to have to play heavy minutes.

Saric is a small ball C at this point. If he's playing SF he's too slow to even be in the league in the current NBA.

Yes it would be great to have a freaky 7 foot PF who can do everything but honestly Jae is the next best thing if you don't have one of them. You need at least 4 outside shooters to run a modern offense. Look at the Bucks when Giannis plays they have Lopez basically just shoot 3s, he only went into the post last game because Giannis is out.

Love to see a game 7, if both Young and Giannis are playing hobbled there's every chance they'll worsen their injuries.

Kinda sorta agree. We won the Clippers series because of Ayton’s dominance in the post. Not because of our three point shooting. Clippers shoot way more threes than we did. 5 out of 6 games Ayton dominated the paint. Yes you need shooters (if you are big into analytics) but rebounding wins championships. Suns Clippers series, Suns won the rebounding battle, 272-252. Clippers won the 3 point battle, 72-59 made 3s. Rebounding and post control still win rings.

Yes you need 3 point shooters but rebounds win championships. So yes this roster isn’t perfect, this team could have been way more lethal had we added a real McCoy PF. And a bonafide backup center.

But we have a maximum of 7 games left so Saric and Jae just need to hang in there and we got this.

Saric has never played as SF, I can guarantee you that because I have seen him play since he was a teenager.

Jae Crowder started his career primary as an SF, but he has been playing as a PF for the last 4-5 years.

It is clearly his best position. He played PF before for the Celtics, the Grizzlies, the Jazz, the Heat...

We are close to winning a chip with him as our starting PF and he is doing everything that we want from that position. Perfect fit next to Ayton.

You really don't need a traditional 4 anymore. There's no offensively gifted PF centric offenses anymore, no Duncan or Garnett or Elton Brand or ZBO or even Dirk who will kill you on the block or from the elbow or get foul calls.

No one really generates a ton of offense from power fowards back to the basket game or even front-facing 4 anymore. Lakers do in spurts, but AD is really a center in 2021 and Ayton would have guarded him. Maybe Julius Randle? Giannis is a unicorn and presents different problems, mainly you NEED a defensive anchor against him and incredible transition defense/switching and perimeter defense against their shooters.

This is perhaps why Jones loaded up on wings and guards and "cheated" a bit in free agency. Although if Ayton went down, we would have been screwed.

You make do with 6'6-6'8 guys who can defend 2-4 and shoot the three. Crowder is the perfect guy for his price. Sure he gets beat a lot by smaller guards and can't guard AD, but that's 90% of the league.

Random post since we'll have a lot of time before the finals.

I used to moderate the Suns forum on PSD back in the day, until the participation began to die out. This was the thread from game 6 of the 2010 WCF against LA. Nothing crazy but I saw someone commenting about basically continuing to develop and run it back if we keep Amar'e.
I'm not sure if we would have ever reached a finals, but looking back, and knowing how well Amar'e played in his first couple of seasons for NY, I do think we could have remained deep playoff contender, at least for the next couple seasons.

Well the Summer of 2010! Memories. Let your GM go before free agency starts and have your owner think he knows what he is doing

If you had told me the Suns can
1) sign Amare even with potential knee injuries and three scrubs with leandro
2) sign Childress, Warrick, Frye and trade Barbosa for hedo - -with the length of the contracts that Sarver gave

I take number 1 in a heartbeat. The problem that Bobby GM Sarver had wasn't not paying Amare long term with his knees. It was locking down cap multiple years on players that you give one year contracts too. EVen Frye, at the time, I was leery of a long term deal. Though he did play pretty well

If any of that happened, we likely do not get Booker at 13 or Ayton at 1.

The suffering was worth it.

Nice trip down memory lane, though.

Lopez has to keep up with either Ayton or Crowder in transition. I don't see that happening.

Defensively, in the half-court, our guys can stay in front of Giannis. This means a lot of two-point attempts by him. Fortunately, he shoots less than .400 between three feet and the three-point line and only .300 from 3.

He played SF in philly so maybe you missed some games. Anyway, I’m not a big fan of Saric to be honest. After the season, would definitely like to dump him. He gets abused in every game and is the weak link. I don’t know how many times I yelled at the TV every time he makes costly mistakes. His just too much of a sloppy mess on the court. I will admit before he got COViD, he was playing well but since then, he’s the weak link, unfortunately this roster doesn’t have another true PF on this roster.

(BTW size still matters, in response to another post saying PFs are 90s basketball. That’s false).

They really tryna drag Sarver’s name through the mud to distract from his team’s success. It’s getting harder now that he doesn’t go out of his way to do dumb **** himself like he used to do.

It's too bad, because JaVale McGee would have made a finals win a certainty.

Return to Phoenix Suns
