Don't mean to break it to you guys, but Pietrus has lot a step or two in terms of his defense.

He's a great perimeter and one-on-one defender but his shooting is erratic at best, and ask any Magic fan and they'll say his brain is the size of a peanut.

Watch out for his fadeaway wide open 3s and his tendencies to step out of bounds when he's about to drive.

Trust me guys, I am not dogging Pietrus in any way. When he's on a roll, he can hit 3 to 4 threes with ease. He's still a good defender and I think he'll be alot better in this system. He turned into just a pure jump shooter, when he was a great slasher in Golden State. Plus he's only attempted 6 freethrows this season. Just shows how kind of misused Pietrus was in Orlando.

Ah crap I was just harping on his D in another thread. Well I believe you guys, which sucks because Pietrus 2 or even 1 year ago would have been our best defender. Sadly he's probably still up there

^^^

I'm not saying he's a bad defender, but take it from me and what Magic fans will say, he's lost a step or two.

He still was the Magic's top perimeter defender, but he likes to fall for pump fakes and sometimes ruin a fast break with a "WTF moment" from time to time.

He's also had a few DNPs this season with the Magic, but I think he can still work well here.

If Pietrus is not a bad defender, and Carter is a bad defender, than the reason to play Pietrus more minutes than Carter becomes clear IMO.

I do realize that Carter's scoring could be huge for us though.

Let's see what happens :)

I think the Hawks would bite on a Hakim Warrick, Robin Lopez, 1st Round Pick (Magic), 1st Round Pick (Suns), for Josh Smith. We could use the TPE from Amare's trade exception and they save 4-6mil. Or if they wanted to save more we could keep Warrick and send them the expiring of Pietrus instead.
But if the Hawks are really just looking for a point guard and a cheap center then we'd have to include the Blazers. We could do something like this...
Suns get-
Josh Smith

Hawks get-
Andre Miller
Robin Lopez
1st Round Pick (Magic)
1st Round Pick (Suns)

Blazers get-
Mike Bibby
Mikael Pietrus

Obviously Andre Miller is definitely a better point guard than Bibby, but apparently Roy wants a more passive point guard and I think Bibby fits that bill. Blazers also add more depth. The Hawks get exactly what they want, a true point guard, Horford moving back to PF, shed a couple mil, and the two picks is icing on the cake.

Suns are in a great position to have a wide variety of players to deal, TPE, draft picks, expiring contracts, etc. Whatever a team wants, they can get at the Phoenix Suns Shop, lol.

Okay, that's enough bashing of Pietrus from me. He's actually a real fun guy, and is always good for a laugh.

The thing with Pietrus is, when he gets into a rhythm he can shoot lights out. He is a great perimeter defender but he's been hampered by the flu and injuries in the past, also being in Stan Van Gundy's doghouse made him a little rusty.

I saw Childress's defense on KD. Very nice, his length is a great asset and he seems to have great hands. I guess the problem here is he can't do it consistently?

@rsavaj

I know you seem to be on the fence for VC in this trade, but I think he can thrive with Nash and the Suns. It might start off slow, but let's try this.

VC on the Magic was averaging 15/4/3 on 12 possessions per game on 47% shooting as the THIRD option in only 30 minutes.

Try VC on the Suns averaging 18-20ppg with just a few more possessions as the 2nd option in about 35 minutes or so as the Second option. It could do wonders for the guy. People say he takes alot of bad shots, but he's been playing smart this past season, magic fans will admit that.

It's good to have so much depth at the wing, but hopefully we can be able to incorporate both Vince and Pietrus because both can bring alot to the Suns.

With Vince it's a low risk/High reward type of situation. If he's not playing well, he'll probably be gone at the end of the season. Hopefully he does do well with the Suns. ;)

let gentry decide who to play more childress or MP. Personally I think MP would be the one that should be traded not childress. Jchill is heading into his prime years and MP is past his prime. Carter will be okay here in phx. Nash always makes the players around him better. Richardson has a pretty low b-ball IQ and he made him look like a baller. Im itching to see what Gentry decides to do though. I think we need slashers to the basket so the 3 point line can open up.

I just hope Vince is motivated to play hard for us...going from a title contender to a team that's at the 8 spot and all.

Ok, what does giving up Lopez and Warrick for Smith do for the Suns? Nothing but take a big from us that we need. We need to get another big, preferably a PF while getting rid of one of our wing players. Pietrus, VC, Dudley or Chill.

Also, as far as a deal between Atlanta, Portland and the Suns, as posted by Ray Ray, has VC being the key proponent for Portland because of the amount of the expiring contract. Also, any deal that has the Suns sending any of VC, Pietrus, or Gortat with another Suns player is not allowed until Feb 18th (which is 60 days after they were traded to the Suns...any of them can be traded within 48 of the trade if they are the only Suns player being traded). I came up with a deal that I think helps all teams involved and that can be done now.........
I came up with a deal that can be done NOW and not have to wait till Feb 18th, as long as Portland and Atlanta would be on board.

Atlanta gets: Miller/Camby
Portland gets: VC/Bibby
Suns get: Smith

Portland is said to be shopping Camby (vet players anyways) to get young prospects/cap space. They get cap space with VC and they get a PG that doesn't dominate the ball or have the "same" aspects of his game to Roy.

Atlanta gets out of Smiths deal (so they can resign Crawford) while getting a better PG suited for their team and get a great defensive center to put Horford at PF.

Suns rid themselves of that 5th wing and bring in a big SF/PF that plays defense and can slash without giving up Lopez or Gortat in the process.

I'm sure we could throw in 1 or both of our picks and Atlanta throwing at least 1 pick to Portland in this deal as compensation for losing Camby and taking on Bibby as well.

The more I think about the factors of Nash + Suns Trainers + positive team atmosphere having an effect on Carter, the less I am worried about losing Richardson. VC can get it done. He is certainly a wild card, but I can't see him not figuring out how to get open shots with this team. Plus, you can make the argument that their skillsets are so damn close in many categories we may not skip a beat:

Long Range
Pass
Mid Range
Create Own Shot
Slash
Defense
Post Moves
Rebounding
Can score 30+ any given night
Alley Oop

Those 3 maxamillion clips helped too :)

I'll be happy whether we keep him or trade him.

I dont really see any significant drop due to this trade. I think Lopez did good today and showed he is slowly getting back into this groove. I think the dragic and Gortat pairing will be interesting to see. I think Dragic is a better point than jameer. As far as Vince, He is shooting the best in his career, he is rebounding at a similar rate as J-rich and he is assisting more. averaging 3 assists a game for a guy that is suppose to be a selfish player kinda doesnt make sense to me considering he is a 3rd option on SVG offense. Im just anxious to see what Carter does with Nash on his side. I know he is very excited.

I know im going to get bashed for this, but honestly i think we should keep VC this year, then buy him out next year so we can then re-sign him to a new (yet smaller) contract.

I love Vince's game. Always have and always will.

Well, we'll know that we'll have all 3 of them (VC, Pietrus, and Gortat) until at least Feb18th if we don't hear of a trade with any of them, especially VC by game time of the Spurs game. Word is, the Suns are trying to get all 3 for that game. If they are at the game, or we don't hear of a trade involving one of them by game time, then we'll be keeping them till at least Feb 18th. That will be the 48 hrs that we have to trade any of them by there lonesome. If we are to trade any of them, I'd prefer to do it now to get all our new pieces together ASAP rather than the 3 getting acquainted with the team, then have any of them plus other players moved in Feb.

Return to Phoenix Suns
