He is exceeding expectations stat wise, but still very raw in his on court play to play activity. The hype as a generational player like Doncic is just that... hype. The dude will improve. His offensive game right now a quiet double double machine. And he has yet to figure out how dominating he can be. You'd just like to see him click faster on D, but that goes for the whole freaking team. Yadda yadda yadda.... nothing we all dont know.
I'll still 'She-andre' him on occasion, but his positives have far outpaced his negatives... and that trend should only continue.
For sure. He needs to get meaner. Give up a foul or two and hack the hell out of someone going to the hoop. He has to be a deterrent on D. Don't be complacent and ok with midgets driving to the hoop and scoring on you.

Unfortunately it comes to personality for me. Same story with Bender. Seeing Dragan being so timid for 3 seasons, I doubt Ayton will change that much in this regard. He will probably improve in a way, but becoming a Barkley type of player ? I don't see it.

Bender never showed fight. Watch Ayton run down the court, post up his man deep and aggressively, demand the ball and then go eff it as he gets ignored by Ariza.I would really like to know how much of his lack of aggression is just him and how he feels about the respect he gets from teammates when he demands the ball. I think its both.

I haven't noticed him getting angry at someone, but at least he is talking about being more aggressive in interviews. Let's hope he starts showing it more on the court.

You stated that you had a problem with people saying that Ayton was getting a lot of hate. How? You said that they were losing their ****. I said they were not losing their **** because the Ayton defensive talk is non-stop and some here need to get a new tune, that isn't attacking anyone. What do I need to look in the mirror for? be specific so I can respond, none of this non-contextual accusation kinder crap. Speak on it. Jackson wasn't good last year? smh, lol, OUR WHOLE TEAM WASN'T GOOD!! And he was so bad he got second team all rookie....Be real. His second half he balled. How about this year? What have I said about him and his playing time? But like you with Bender, why not let him play and see if he can get better? He was the fourth pick and we suck ass? Play him and let him fail, if you disagree, disagree. Don't mean anything to me. I'll let him play his ass out of the league, you rather him sit on the bench and hide his ineptitude, that's on you. Complaining about the same player's weakness game after game without acknowledging what he does well sometimes, is annoying. Posters have mentioned it and I agree. So please don't label poster who don't appreciate the repeated narrative of Ayton's poor defense as people who are losing their ****. It is tiring!
Dude everyone on twitter and any analysts talk about Ayton's defense. They have for the last year. Doesn't mean he isn't a great player. JJ really shouldn't have made 2nd all rookie team. He tied with Bam or beat him by one vote because someone voted for him first team. The only reason he put up numbers late was because we benched our good players and he put up empty stats. I know you think he will be better than Tatum and I hope so too, but I don't really expect it.
Dude there you go again. This isn't twitter, its the Suns board. This isn't the national media. When this board started bashing Igor, you asked us to stop. You made excuses over and over again just like you did with Bender. Now you are telling JJ shouldn't have made 2nd team all rookie. Wth? You really don't have a mirror. Now you are bringing Tatum into the discuss. Who cares about Tatum?
The point is, some posters, me included are tired of hearing about Ayton's defense, especially after a win where his defense wasn't abysmal. You don't get it. Just stop.

Ask the coach to let him, maybe that will help.

I don't think it's Igor not allowing him to dominate. Igor is letting the game come to him rather than force feed him in the post which isn't really where his level of development is at right now. I think there's merit to letting Ayton create his own offensive positions around the hoop rather than running a play specifically to feed him in specific spots near the hoop. It gives him diversity to his offense because it means eventually he'll be able to operate anywhere he can take up position. Sometimes when going up certain defenders, you're not able to set up camp in your preferred spot.
Oh and Igor definitely didn't tell Ayton not to be in the painted area where he could challenge shots on defense either. He's just out of position a lot of the time.
Ayton is being put in a position to learn as he goes out there and I've been mostly impressed, offensively anyway
