I like the guy but as a player he hasn't impressed me in the least, and yes, I'm aware he was a near all star in the East. I just personally don't see anything about his game that makes me think he's going to be a star in a few years. I hope I'm wrong.

Oh and also, please trade the Morris twins.

Neither do I but this deal is in line with what he would get or less than what he would get in the open market. Bottom line is, I don't feel like we overpaid to retain him.

What's the biggest deal he could get - and who from? Seems like we're potentially overspending for no reason at all - is this so McD somehow saves face?

I think it's a combo of "we have to lock him down after cashing in our chips for him" and "let's not repeat last year's dragged-out Bledsoe situation". Might as well get one thing settled. Hopefully he'll wait for us to go after the bigger FAs and then we can re-sign him using his bird rights.

Another angle is by working out the structure and verbally agree to a deal, we can lock down how much we have to spend this offseason. Had he left him to explore other options, we may not know exactly how much we could spend on FA's until mid-July. Now that we have signed our RFA, we can focus on the FA market.

Apparently re-signing an average player for a "reasonable" 70m dollar deal means you won the trade.

Worry about Middleton first....

Middleton is a lightyears better player than Knight, and an RFA. Nothing to worry about, he'll be here.

Middleton has a case to be made. But come only the most deluded Bucks fans can actually believe that MCW ("swiss army knife"? please more like jack of all trades/master of none) was an upgrade over BKnight. I would have taken that protected Lakers pick assuming you had a choice

Neither MCW or Knight is a starting point guard in my opinion. Knight is better than MCW at one thing, which is shooting. MCW is a much better defender and I like Kidd's chances of turning him into a legit PG based on his size. I know for sure I wouldn't want to pay either one of them big money to be a long term piece here.

So Knight is average, maybe a backup, light years behind Middleton, worse the MCW... and yet the Bucks completely imploded the moment he left the team.

Wild.

14M$ per is not big money once the cap is at almost 100M$ it is just 14% of your bugdet.

14M$ per for the next 5 years is a contract similiar to 5 years/45M$ in the past 5 years with the cap around 60M$.

Not to mention, Knight now knows what he's 'worth' to us, so this empowers him in RFA. And that does two things, it gives him a mindset of security, and by not low-balling him AND getting this down prior, he'll more than likely feel like he's a priority to our FO--like he's a piece of the future of this team.

Yes, this could backfire, by him trying to squeeze more money out of us--maybe sign a 4 year deal worth $16M, or whatever, and force McD's hand into paying him the higher rate, but I guess time will tell.

And for those clamoring for Middleton, are we then trying to trade Warren following? Otherwise, we just spent last year's lotto pick on a career back-up. I really hope they don't sign yet ANOTHER SF in FA, unless that player can play a 'stretch 4' for us instead.

With Al-Farouq Aminu sigining for 4/30 with Portland , and the Nets offering Lopez 3yr/60 Mill & Thad Young 4yr/50 Mill. $70 million/5 years for Brandon Knight (and for Eric Bledsoe) seems like a good deal.

With a 100m cap during Knight-Bledsoe-Morris contract, they'll only take up about 1/3rd of the cap.

Hopefully one of them becomes a no.3 and we can attract 1-2 genuine stars with that cap room.

I think they're good value for the medium term, and can also be good assets because of that.

Wow Middleton who is definitely better than Knight and the guy who the Bucks preferred to pay over Knight is gonna get the same $$ as Knight?

I thought he'd be getting much more....now I'm starting to think this contract is too generous for Knight. Heck even Bledsoe's is too generous by this standard.

Middleton is definitely better than Knight despite having worse stats than Knight and the Bucks going into the toilet once they got rid of Knight?

I know you loooooove trying to find narrative to make the team look bad but you're reaching here.

If anything those contracts look like bargains when a player of Middleton's mediocre standard is getting the same money.

I hope we don't go into the season carrying Knight and Bledsoe.

If the plan is continue with the dual PG lineup, then we very well might.

By implode you mean we hit the meat of our schedule and our vets who played above their heads for the first half finally came down to earth? No, you're right. Must've been the undersized 2 guard who's on his 3rd team during his rookie contract that caused it. Enjoy Knight looking off open trailers and the post in order to get his own shot.

I think it's a bargain for both. Once the cap jumps, both of these guys will be paid like below-average starters. Middleton is better compared to others at his position simply because the PG position is so deep, but they're both good, young players.

But the narrative that the Bucks imploded because they lost Knight is just silly. The Bucks imploded because their bench went from being the #1 or #2 bench in the NBA to the #30 bench over the all-star break. The starting lineup actually beat their opponents more handedly once they got rid of Knight than they did when they had him (and there were some other factors that went into this as well; it's not as if Knight hurt the team like some Bucks fans try to argue).

Anyways, I'll be rooting for Knight, and I think 5 years, $70 million is a good deal for you guys. But it's also a good deal for Milwaukee with Middleton.

Middleton is really good. I'd trade knight for him straight up prolly.

That said, knight is still an unscratched scratcher ticket. We will seeeee

Look, I'm not rooting against Brandon Knight so I don't want to be dragged into trashing him. I like the guy, I was hoping we'd find a way to keep him as a 6th man Jamal Crawford type for less money, but it was clear he would be paid as a starting point guard, which I don't think he is. So he had to be traded.

Like someone else said, he definitely is not the reason the team "imploded". I think for sure it was a big change to go from Knight who is a perimeter scorer to MCW, whose value right now is mostly on defense, and it took some time for the team to adjust to that.

Also, I would have told you that Knight would get paid as much or more than Middleton. Middleton is a better player, but teams and fans love scorers. Middleton probably won't have as many 30 point games, unless he starts shooting it more, but he's a good defender along with being a great shooter.

Anyways, this'll be my last post on the issue because I'm not really interested in trolling your board with anti-Knight posts. That's why I posted that thing on our board to begin with.
