Re: Tyson Chandler News and Discussion
BTW. PJ Tucker's value is going to drop to nothing really soon as well. I do not think we will even resign him this summer. So if we can get something for him now, it would make sense.
Anyway. Pau Gasol just broke his hand. Chandler to the Spurs?

Watson also put the kibosh on any rumors involving the veteran center, and he did so adamantly.
“Tyson’s not going anywhere.”

And yet, if you just focus on Tyson's speech, it's clear that he's simply in a good place. It doesn't appear that he'd be particularly pleased or displeased with a move.
Everything can change in a day, but we're not really in a position where we need to make a move for any player or draft pick. And that makes me think we'll keep Tyson for his locker room presence and continued production. Doesn't mean we won't also re-sign Len (see: JCSunsfan for the rationale on this point), but it's probably safe to assume he'll be on the team after the deadline. My guess is that it would take a remarkable confluence of events to get him onto another roster in February.

In his 16th season, Chandler chose to stay.
"That's true," he said after Tuesday's practice. "I feel like it’s a journey I started that I want to see through. If things change, I don’t know, but as long as I’m here, I’m going to try and do what’s right by these young fellas. I didn’t want to go nowhere. I wanted to be with these dudes and finish it out."
"There’s no analytics for voice,'' Watson said. "A lot of times with young players it takes time because you’re really trying to figure it all out yourself and as you start to get older you realize you could’ve been talking early in your career because the truth is, no one has all the answers."
"You can't pick that person,'' Watson said. "That person has to evolve and just take it upon himself."
"It's kind of eerie,'' Chandler said. "It reminds me of life's cycle. He was like, 'Look, these young players are the future of this team. Tyson needs to get these minutes. He needs starting experience and to understand how to close out games and understand what it takes to win.' So he sat out and let me play, and I always respected him for that."
"I did some of the craziest things down the stretch,'' he said. "I remember a game in New York. I had the ball on the block. Forty-five seconds left. Eddy Curry cut down the middle and I threw a lob over my shoulder. He ended up getting fouled and going to the free-throw line, but I remember B.J. Armstrong coming over and laughing. He said, 'You young fellas, you guys will do anything.' I just laughed because the way I saw it, that was the right play. But I didn’t understand possessions and time and all that. A year later, I understood, but only because I got that time."
"For me, I sit down and evaluate where I’m at in my career, where I want to go, what I want to accomplish,'' Chandler said. "At that time, in my heart I felt like I was needed for the young players. In life, it becomes about the bigger picture and not just you as the individual. That’s what I felt in my heart."
Watson wasn't surprised.
"Tyson’s genuine,'' he said. "He’s not in it just for the glory. He’s in it for the building process. He’s not an occupant. He’s not going to sit here and occupy space. He’s here to make a difference."

Tyson wants to coach. He is using this stint to learn and make that transition.

I'd keep Tyson and extend his contract for another two years.

I wouldn't entertain re-signing him until we know what we'll have that year. He might be broken and not worth what it'd cost. He's got value right now. I don't wanna lose him but I also don't overpay for someone who may hinder our cap.

He is under contract for the next two years, and at his age he can be absolutely done after those two years.
He was already a non factor at all protecting the rim and he is gonna be worse for sure in the next future.

I'm not sure how much value we'll get from him but whatever talent we can get, I think we should get. Do right by him and send him to a contender or a playoff team and hopefully get something back in return. I like him on our team so I'm not opposed to keeping him, especially with so much uncertainty with Len but I do like the idea of moving him to add more to the future of this squad.

Re: Tyson Chandler News and Discussion
I don't mind keeping him around if we don't need the cap space for veteran leadership. I wouldn't mind giving him a 2 year contract after that as an assistant coach. I certainly wouldn't want to use cap space after two years on signing him again. He may be worth more on our team than what we could trade him for, so it might not be worth trading him unless we absolutely need the cap space for some reason. I don't anticipate us going after any major free agent this summer or even next though, so we're probably ok keeping him. I like his attitude.

I'd give him the option for an extra year.... and an opportunity as a coach after that. It just seems like that is his mentality

Re: Tyson Chandler News and Discussion
I just feel like Chandler still has some gas in the tank and be a contributor on a title contender. If we find a deal where he can be that contributor and we get decent value in return, I'm all for it. If he's not about that life then by all means, sign him to something cap friendly and give him a coaching position afterwards.
