This is going to be a permanent lineup change for Earl Watson, and it'll be interesting to see how Chriss fares in tonight's uptempo matchup with the Trail Blazers.

I hope this is actually permanent unlike the last time Watson made empty promises

Chriss can benefit with playing beside Tyson Chandler, and provides more size and athleticism. Good move imo. And props to Dudley for being a true pro.

He shouldn't be playing really, he looks old and washed up thus far.

I'm not surprised at all really. This is exactly what I was afraid of ever since SL and preseason happened, as Watson had clearly chosen him as his favorite project for the future.

It's been leading up to this - why else would Chriss get all sorts of time and offensive involvement despite him playing terribly for stretches? Poor IQ defensively and with his passes/fouls, yet still gets all the opportunity in the world to play through it. But Bender and Ulis play well whenever they're allowed to play, and then never see the court again.

What are you talking about exactly? Chriss has been playing decent and you forget that in order to improve he needs to get on the court. I'm not talking about practice.

Please stop bashing our rookies. They have barely played and honestly Watson has made terrible decisions about when/where to play our rookies.

He's not bashing our rookies and has been here watching the games in every game thread. He's known Bender's skills and offers insight. Chriss has played well and has made his share of mistakes. He's just gets far more opportunities to play through mistakes. Bender has looked better overall, though Chriss is certainly better at his share of things. Chriss may better fit what they feel they need in the starting lineup, but that still doesn't mean the other rookies should get DNP's, particularly when Tucker, Barbosa and Knight are stinking up the joint. No one is around to see those guys and it's not like we are a team fighting to get into the playoffs.

And he's welcome on our board. He's certainly not trolling it.

I think that Watson wants to bring Bender with the second unit too. Probably we can see this second unit:

Knight
Tucker
Bender
Dudley
Len

All three of the forwards can switch everything and we have even better shooting without Barbosa out there (horrible the first 7 games).

What has Chriss shown over the other rookies that determines he gets a starting role while they get glued to the bench? I haven't seen it from his play, however little that might be.

There isn't really a better time to start doing it. Right now is the perfect time, even if it's only 5-10 minutes a game right now. I'm hoping this is a sign there are more moves like this to be made and that when our recent draft picks have actually gotten the opportunity to start or have major playing time, they have delivered and improved quickly.

How many fans do we have that live in Portland? Just from what I've seen people say on the forum, it's a minimum 4, and I think maybe 5.

“It’s best for our program,” Suns coach Earl Watson said. “It’s best for the first unit because that is the future of our team. It’s best for the second unit because we need our second unit to be more impactful. It’s best for everyone involved because it kind of settles everyone. We know where we are going as a group. We understand that age is quote, unquote, a challenge for us but we don’t accept that. As you know, I’m not afraid to play young guys or start them.”

With Tyson Chandler away from the team for personal reasons Tuesday night, the Suns used their youngest starting lineup in franchise history – Chriss (19 years old), Devin Booker (20), T.J. Warren (23), Alex Len (23) and Eric Bledsoe (26).

“Marquese is a unique player,” Watson said. “He’s a hybrid of today’s young players with his ability to play above the rim, the finesse to shoot the 3, block shots, dunk the ball, pass the ball, handle the ball and he has a tenacity that reminds me a lot of a young Draymond Green. We embrace that and we understand that. We love who he is.”

Dudley’s move can help the bench, which entered Tuesday’s game ranked 29th in field-goal percentage and 30th in 3-point percentage.

“He gives them great spacing,” Watson said. “If there’s a pick-and-pop play, you have to respect him. You can’t clog up that paint so he gives our guards better chances to get elbow shots, drives to the rim.”

For a guard-centric offense, the Blazers do a fantastic job of involving/playing with their bigs. Aside from just having them be screen-setters and rebounders. DHO, give and go, PnR where they actually look for the roller.

Chriss went under the screen on an already scorching CJ. rookie mistake. He'll learn.
