I feel like Jonathan Simmons is a guy whose effectiveness will nosedive when he's not playing for Pop. I wouldn't trust him on a team with a mediocre-to-bad coach like Watson.
I bet he'd be great in Philly with Brett Brown though.

Simmons hasn't been all that great, IMO.
SHAZAM!
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Yeah, he is not an starter or sixth man in the NBA. Solid bench wing, really good defender.
If we trade Knight away without receiving a fat contract and we don't sign Len we are gonna have difficulties to get to the salary floor.
With so many players on rookie contracts we need to spend some money. He can replace Barbosa as a rotation player, around 15 mpg.
We can have Leandro at the end of the bench too, just for depth and experience.

Trade for star, sign a star, bring Nash to the FO above McD, elevate Triano. Finish with role players. Good offseason.

So easy. Not sure why the suns didn't think of that.

The cool thing is they did think of that....many on the board trying to ignore the obvious goal. Whether it happens or not remains to be seen due to the variables.

Or, better yet, develop Booker into greatest player ever. Develop Chriss and Bender into HOF locks. Draft a superstar this season, use the Miami picks to trade up for another superstar next year. Add a few role players, win 10 straight championships. Oh, and lastly, let Nash enjoy a couple of years off, then he can tackle world peace and global warming.

Yeah they tried with lebron and almost got Aldridge. In hindsight it might have been for the best with LMA. I'm sure they will call on a guy like griffin this summer but I cant see him coming here with the options he has. The other guys who might move this summer like milsap, paul, or serge really don't make sense. Id keep the powder dry this offseason and focus on developing the young guys and hope they are showing enough promise that maybe you are a more attractive free agent destination in 18.

I'm not even sure they'll make even a token effort for someone like Griffin. Ryan's initial strategy was driven by Sarver's need to put butts in the seats so they could make money. Barring supremely good luck (like the once in a generation Boston situation) it's a process designed more to make a team better than it is to necessarily assemble a championship roster.
Building a solid foundation and working up from there, taking your lumps along the way, gives you a much better chance IMO to accumulate the kind of talent it takes to win it all. With the huge TV money, we can now afford to take that slower road. I doubt we'd turn down a deal to accelerate this process but I don't think we'd take a big gamble like Griffin. If we can find an up and coming player that's 26 or under, that will be our play, but if not, we'll just keep developing the young guys. So basically, I think we plan on doing just what you said you hoped we'd do at the end of your post.

Jeezus... you guys will say anything to placate yourselves.... We dont have a solid foundation. We have a shot happy marketable Booker and a couple of rookies who played well enough to warrant some excitement or surprise. Our vets are largely non contributing hanger ons, two of which are here because they were familiar likable guys. Our one potential all star PG was strong armed into being here and is just biding the time before he likely cashes in somewhere else. Realistically, we dont know what we have in Bender, Like to think Chriss is going to be a better than average (Watson says one of the best ever?? wtf haha), we are puzzled by Len, surprised by Williams and hopeful for Ulis.... Our off season excitement revolves around a #4 pick who we hope doesn't crash and burn.
Essentially we have built a good bench... we just lack 2-3 starters. McDo-over has taken 2 baby steps back for every giant step forward. Our rebuild more resembles a tryout camp.
Hardly a foundation.
Most successful championship teams start with a star player and build around them.... we seem to be doing just the opposite. So yes, its time to add some real proven talent. Its time to go out and get one, or even two...else its another rinse and repeater.

Well he'll fit right in.
No one apart from Chandler has won anything on the Suns.

Who do you have in mind?
Most fans (myself included) are afraid of going after big names until this mess Durant started with the Warriors starts to fade.

Re: 2017 Offseason Speculation, Trade & Free Agency Ideas & Discussion
Does trading for Jimmy Butler propel us into the playoffs?
The draft is on June 22nd, if we offered Knight (to match contracts), Derrick Jones Jr the #4 pick, our 2019 1st (lotto protected), both Miami picks. We renounce Len's rights and allow him to sign with whatever team.
We should still have enough money to sign a max contract to upcoming free agents when free agency begins July 1st. Go after Blake Griffin, Serge Ibaka, or Paul Millsap. Keep Alan Williams and Ronnie Price.
We'd have a great mix of young guys and veterans:
Bledsoe/Booker/Butler/Blake/Chandler
Ulis/LB/Warren/Chriss/Bender
There ya go Frank! Do we got enough to compete with the Warriors? I assume Warriors lose a lot of depth this offseason. Oh, and Blake Griffin says what sold him to the Suns (besides playing with BleedButtBook) is his brother Taylor said how amazing our facilities and medical staff were. So we can thank our front office for always drafting the lesser brother because it finally paid off!

Unless we can score Blake in FA, which we all know our history of doing similar signings, it makes sense to build for the future rather than now. If we added Blake then yes, let's add Butler and see if our 3 stars can compete.

McD very good at trading first round picks for stars. I know we are all very happy about that last first round pick we owned that he traded for a "NOW" impact player. Genius.

Where does that star player that they build around come from? Thin air? No... the Draft. Warriors core was almost entirely built through the draft before KD. Cavs drafted LeBron and Kyrie and traded the #1 pick for Love. Lakers acquired Kobe through the draft. Spurs cores have been basically entirely home grown. Heat drafted their star Wade who drew in his buddies LeBron and Bosh. Mavericks built around their draft-acquired star in Dirk. Celtics drafted Paul Pierce before finally surrounding him with talent by cashing in on draft picks and role players to bring in Ray and KG.
The point is all teams start from within. If this team ever has championship aspirations, then Bender, Chriss, Ulis, Booker, and all of our other future draft picks need to develop like every other team's picks do and be among the best at their position. Mediocre players and teams don't win championships. We have a long way to go before we know if they panned out for us, but unless a generational talent falls in our lap we don't have a lot of other options. All McDonough trying to build a playoff team from thin air got us was Brandon Knight, a lost Lakers pick, and various disgruntled players in and out of Phoenix with a few draft picks as consolation.

Re: 2017 Offseason Speculation, Trade & Free Agency Ideas & Discussion
In a simulation offseason I was just offered Lin, RHJ and 26 for Bledsoe. That's one of the more interesting ones. Denver and Utah are hot after him and I told them to come up with good 3 way trades so they are working it pretty hard. I guess Brookly would keep him or flip him for Anunoby and other pieces.
