Perhaps, but none of them have cap space. They could do a S&T maybe with Denver, but they'd have to send salary back to Denver, and probably wouldn't want to send a very useful player. Millsap may just want money at the end of his career, however, he has made a lot of it. But unless I'm forgetting someone, I think he's by far the best FA available without a player option...Gallinari may be as valuable or more, depending on your need (he is a better shooter but far worse defender)...however, Gallinari has definitely already stated he wants to play for a contender.

Millsap is not getting more than the Mid-level exception (around $10M) next season. So I think a good amount of playoff teams can offer him that.

He is a backup now and I can't imagine any team trusting him to be the full time starter being 36 years old during next season. This season he is playing just 24.7 minutes per game, no way he plays more than that in the future.

I'd be fine paying him that or more and only playing him 20-25 minutes a game. We just need talented depth. And someone experienced. This FA class sucks, and most of the decent guys have player options or are restricted. Obviously I'd rather have Fred Van Vleet but I'd be shocked if Toronto didn't keep him and I'm sure he wants to stay there.

Millsap for a mil or 2 above the MLE would be fine. He still has game. That would allow 6-8m to get a back up 2 guard. Which the Suns need.

God could you imagine the melt down this would cause here if Jones waived Waiters instead of keeping his $12mil for next year as a possible trade chip.

I should note I don't actually hate the decision and I do think the Griz have done a great job the past year. Just think it's funny because people would have freaked out here.

I wonder if they were worried he would file a grievance if they sent him home. At that point they would need to let him be with the team but obviously wouldn't have to play him. Might have thought that was too big of a headache to deal with.

I actually think the Grizzlies have not done so well. I mean they did kill Jones in their trade with us, but who hasn’t? I don’t think their team is sustainable. Like I’ve said In a previous post, once Dillon Brooks comes back down to earth (and that should be happening fairly soon), this team drops back to the bottom. They don’t have some good young pieces though, but they’re mostly rejects. Other than Ja and JJJ their roster is comprised of high draft picks that other teams gave up on or guys who are overachieving.
That’s just my opinion though and of course who cares about an opinion. But for the sake of this forum and being a suns fan, I think the future is brighter for the suns.

Jevon Carter should gift a couple of these to Robert Sarver, it would suit him well.

Is anyone else here who has low-confidence in James Jones as a GM right now? I want to give him more time and maybe he can make a big move or two and draft well but his acquisition looks awful right now.

I wouldn't say I have high confidence. I'll leave it at that.

Ha the suns were on a treadmill with like 3 or 4 years in a row picking 14... Everyone complained so they smashed that treadmill now they just sit on the ground crying.

You forgot the immediate years after Amare left?

If only they had rebuild properly then...

I know usually a treadmill team refers to a team just good enough to not get a good draft pick or make the playoffs, or maybe be a sure first round exit. But we've been on a different treadmill at the bottom of the league, usually getting good picks, but still screwing the up and staying at the bottom...rinse, repeat.

Maybe we will do better if we get the 13th or 14th pick. Or even the 9th or 10th (Amare, Marion, Bridges).

And we were really only on the treadmill for those 2 Nash years, and then we sunk to 25 wins or so, and brought McD and Hornacek in and had that weird 48 win season. Not sure I'd call that a treadmill season...more like an anomaly...then we tried to compete so I guess you could say we were treadmill then but obviously we were not going anywhere with that group...and then McD started to get busy making bad decision after bad decision during that 39 win season. Drafted Booker after but not sure he made a good decision after that.

It's hard to judge GM on a one season worth of moves since GM's should be playing the medium-to-long game but the overall, I think his moves have been underwhelming at best and disappointing at worst.

Jones' comments about drafting concern me the most. He is delusional if he thinks players are going to come here.

He already has shown he is not good at trading.

I hope he changes his stance on drafting. Currently the only way for the Suns to get a star is through the draft.

No, but that was a joke too, adding the guys we did and then drafting guys like Morris and Marshall. It's not often you have a championship window. I have said before I would have given Amare the contract over signing those other guys. We would have contended at least for 2 more years before he started to regress, but at least by then maybe we figure something out, or just deal Nash and have the bad Amare contract for a couple years. His FG% was actually still good until he retired in 2016...hovered around a TS% of 60%. He might have outlasted Nash, but then we bring Dragic back at the same time he replaces Nash. Would have been nice had we never made the Marion for Shaq trade too.

Yeah, it's easy to say "you need to add guys who know how to play" when he was on the Suns from 2005-2007 and then on the Heat and Cavs with LeBron.

That or immediately move on from Nash (trade him) after Amare decided to sign with NY. Instead of waiting doing nothing for the next 2 years and acquiring world destroyers like Josh Childress and Hedo Turkoglu with the cap space we had after Amare left.

Return to Phoenix Suns
