I'm telling you guys, Watch this kid carefully. Golden State knows what they're doing. This kid can be another Duncan Robinson. He is yet another great prospect that we apparently whiffed on here in the 2nd round. :nonono:

How do you whiff on a pick you don't have? Or are you saying they should put $3 million on red, or I mean Justinian Jessup, and hope he hits?

1. $8.5 Mil guaranteed hitting the cap for Jalen.

2. Yes, it universally is. The draft has (FOR YEARS, because scouting happens more than just the year before), been considered as having strength in the middle and in its depth. There was no top, but that has nothing to do with depth. Many people liked the middle and bottom of this draft for value.

2b, Because you misnumbered: I have never contended we didn't want Smith so no idea what you are talking about. I know we were high on Bane and Kira and some others because we worked them out and interviewed them. Our head coach flew to their school.

3. What I stated, if you'd read it, is that Jones wouldn't have drafted Luka, because he did not do the vast majority of things Jones values. Jackson (coming out of school) screams as the guy Jones would have taken. A defender who shoots 3s and can pass. That's what Jackson was supposed to be.

4. There have been studies done. The safe guys you value are a dime a dozen and can be had at the vet minimum. Going for the stars is the statistically best way to draft. And again, you are describing exactly what I stated with point 3. We would not have taken Luka, or Booker, or hell even Amare, under Jones. And we're supposed to see that as a good thing so long as we have a team of Danny Green 3 & D players? Okay...
Youre acting like Jones doesn't have a roster and a timeliness. You miss context. If this was a 20 win team with no potential star I believe Jones would have a different draft strategy

Jones was the assistant GM the owner had hired to take over for the current GM. If he felt strongly that Luka was the guy, you think he wouldn't have told Sarver to do it? Because I think he had Sarver's ear much more than McD at that point, and Ayton was not a star potential rookie because his D was still struggling. So he kind of did walk into exactly the situation you're describing except that he did have Booker. This league is about stars. The superteams win. For context, you need a number of all stars to win in this league. The role players are easy to find to play at the minimum and ring chase once you have the stars. Those 20 players are all that really moves the needle in any significant way.
Buddy! That was an L! But Ayton is one of the besst defensive players in the NBA already. Im not going to cancel him because he went for what will be a generational big over Luka. It was a bad decision but Ayton will be a HOF center.

Yeah. If the draft is a crapshoot excusing complaining about reaches, doesn't that mean we should be getting more picks / chances at hitting something? There is value here and we dumped it for freaking Ty Jerome and b/c our GM bungled the Josh Jackson dumping, and our owner is too cheap to buy one.
100% agree that there is value left on our draft board

Jones said he likes guys who can shoot and move the ball. He also likes defenders. Having played with LeBron and Nash, Luka definitely seems more like a guy he'd like than Ayton. He also went to scout him.

We won't know, so there really isn't a reason to argue about it.

Luka his more of Jones points of shooting, passing and defense than Ayton did. Ayton wasn't a shooter and is knock was defense...and of course he's not nearly the passer or shooter that Luka is...a not so insignificant number of people knocked Ayton's D as much or more than Toppin's was being knocked this year.

My contention is he would take Jaren Jackson. Luka was not a shooter in any sense coming out. He was a playmaking passer. Relative to position, Ayton's shooting was considered a much bigger plus than Luka's. Luka checked none of the other boxes Jones states he looks for in picks nor who we have picked or targetted at really any point in the Jones tenure. When has Jones ever taken a guy whose main skill was that in the draft or FA? Only guy we've added whose best asset is playmaking is CP3 who forced his way here. I think if there's any chance he goes away from the archetype he has stuck with the entire time, it would have been for Young, who was a drastically better shooter than Luka.

The best part of this draft was taking someone with good character, a strong motor, and solid fundamentals.

We've unfortunately learned the hard way that all the talent in the world means nothing if a gifted athlete doesn't have a strong motor (Chriss/Bender), good character (Josh Jackson/Chriss), or has poor fundamentals (Archie/Chriss).

Not buying Riller, who is one of the safest guys to help a team NOW in the entire draft, is so criminal. Hope he sells soon.

Looks like there'll be a few interesting guys left undrafted.

Riller, Reed, Tillie, Tyshon Alexander, Nate Hinton, Reggie Perry, Naji Marshall, Dotson, Myles Powell all undrafted yet.

I mean we could have just as easily declined Kaminsky, As he's redundant now with Jalen Smith already being the better player at his position ( 3rd string floor spacing big). Andvwe could've easily bought a 2nd at minimal cost to take a chance on one or two high upside prospects. And watch how this kid develops and then tell me if I'm wrong? :dontknow:

So basically we're whiffing on identifying and acquiring high potential low cost prospects. That could develop into solid contributors again at a minimal cost to us.

Its not worth it.

like $3M to buy the pick and then whatever the contact is. That $3M can be spent on an already experienced player, not an extreme gamble. We will wait to grab someone undrafted.
