Aren't the Heat already thin on bigs?
Roger Mason for Tucker seems to work.
What would we DO with that many picks?

We are taking on salary and saving them in salary tax and giving them a good 3 and d guy on a minimum contract. The heat 1st rounder is pretty much a 2nd rounder for how low it will be

Terrible.
The Suns take on the abysmal Joel Anthony, while getting rid of someone who should be around in their plans for years and years to come, all for a terrible pick (MIA) and a pick that they probably won't get till who knows when (PHI)? Awful.

Do we try to get a playoff bid with a trade? Or are we playoff or bust with what we have?

Re: Official Suns Free Agent/Trade/Transaction Thread
I'm not amped to make a trade like I outline below right now, but depending how things unfold over the next 4 or 5 weeks, it could be a good move. I posted this trade proposal on the Heat board a few days back, and some positive feedback was the fallout-
Gerald Green/Indiana's #1
for
Lewis/Jones/Philly #1(top 14 protected '14 & '15)
Suns buyout Lewis or just let him hang around. Suns are winning too much. Green has been too good. Giving up Green for Jones "helps" PHX. Suns have too many 1st round picks this year (4), moving that pick down-the-road would be good. Trade clears another 3.5 million from the Suns books for 2014. Losing Green also allows the Suns to give talented 19 yo Archie Goodwin more, and more consistent PT.
Swapping that Sixer (probably 2015) pick for the guaranteed 2014 Pacer pick & how you value Lewis? I have little idea. But, Heat would get what they need to back-up Wade in Gerald Green.

If your reasoning for a trade is: "Suns are winning too much" and "Suns have too many 1st round picks this year" it's probably a terrible trade for the Suns. Every time you have a chance to trade a serviceable younger player for 2 older useless scrubs and turn a 2014 1st round pick into two future 2nd round picks, you have to do it.

We take on Joel Anthony and probably buy him out or just wait for his contract to expire. We get 2 more first rounders to work with. That puts us around 8 in two years. We'd have amazing ammunition for another trade.

-If the Suns end up with four first round picks with one being the 29th or 30th pick, plus their own 2nd rounder in one draft, I think that's too many. I'd rather move the late late 2014 #1 for another #1 next year or two Philly 2nd round picks ('15 and '16). I value high 2nd round picks more than extremely late 1st rd'er (no money gambled with 2nd rd picks). And there would be a decent chance that that Philly pick could come to us as a decent (#15 to #22) round one pick next year.
-3.5 million cleared off the books, while not huge, could come in handy this summer.
-I could care less about the players that would come in the trade. They'd be "expiring, playable filler" or even bought out.
-I like Gerald Green, and I wouldn't mind him staying around depending how things develop. But, I'd also like to see Archie get more playing time, though I do get the "go slow" strategy with him.
As I prefaced the post/trade prop- Not pushing for this trade, because I'd like to see what happens over the next month or so.

Re: Official Suns Free Agent/Trade/Transaction Thread
I think Jason Thompson will do much better on a different team. Would he be an upgrade here ? Haven't seen enough of him over the past couple yrs, but the Kings thought enough of him to give him Frye-like money.
I think he will help out team/contender. A big athletic body, 5 yrs into his career. Kind of like Blatche may be?
PS.... wouldn't be surprised at all if Atlanta takes interest since their big horse pulled up lame.

Some reason I thought how badass it would be to have Melo and a prime Amare on the team... Or how terrible the team would be because of how many players need the ball in their hands to be productive.

Either one will just ball-watch while the other has the ball because they are ineffective without the ball and neither are willing passers. And that's just the offense...

No, but I'm starting to think that there may be so many teams looking to tank and unload players for picks, we could maybe try and pry something from someone for a pick...like Indy's pick and filler for a guy like Thaddeus Young. I doubt they'd do it, but picks are becoming overvalued to some extent.

Thompson would make our current team way worse. One reason our two pg lineup works well is because we have a 3 and 4 who can stretch the floor and hit 3s. Frye and Tucker are by far our best 3 pt shooters, at 50% and 39%.
Dragic shoots 31% from 3 and Bledsoe shoots 35%. Goodwin shoots 9.5%.
Thompson hasn't shot a 3 all year. We would not be able to stretch the defense without a stretch 4. If we are going to stick with a two pg lineup, we need that stretch 4.
Now if we end up at some point going with a more traditional 4 that can't hit the 3, we probably need to get a sg that is money from long distance or the flow of our offense will not work very well.

I think Dragic's a better 3pt shooter than his numbers say.
And also, we can always start Markieff who is a pretty decent 3pt shooter at 37%.

Re: Official Suns Free Agent/Trade/Transaction Thread
Yes, he's a career 34% shooter from 3, but still, you really want to have one of your backcourt guys able to hit better than 36%, and hopefully in the 40s, particularly if you can't spread the offense with your 4.

Re: Official Suns Free Agent/Trade/Transaction Thread
I love posting trade ideas but I've started to come around to the "standing pat is the best idea" mind frame. The way the team is constructed right now is working, and the asset that the Suns most want to get rid of (Frye) gets more valuable during the offseason when his option is resolved.
The Suns have a ton of picks and talent and I don't think there's any players that can help this team available for pieces we want to move.
