I love our roster, and I would be happy bringing back basically the same roster next year, but it's gonna be too expensive so I understand that some minor changes are gonna be needed, but what I wouldn't touch is our core at all. Yeah, and that core includes Crowder and Cam Payne.
We will see. It is too early to talk about next season when we are in the middle of a dogfight with a very good team. They were 9th because they didn't have CJ McCollum and Larry Nance before, these two guys are great on their roles.
Tomorrow's game is gonna be exciting.
I think Frank meant you only have to game plan for CP3, none of our other guys are stepping up, heck even when we had Booker, it was still the CP3 show. There isn't a team concern for Green. In game two, Book played amazing, but none of the other guys got the shots they needed to get loose, and we had too many cold shooters.
I would be fine with moving on from Payne and Crowder. I feel they have dropped off playing wise. But don't know what there is out there. Guys like Alvarado can be found for cheap. But I don't really want to think of this offseason at this momment, just get through this first round. I would still like to see more of Holiday to see what he has.
I have no issue with who the Pels acquired, they made good trades. They have a good team. I have an issue with the lack of in game adjustments by our coach.
I hope tomorrow's game is exciting, and we come out like a number one seed playing an 8th(really 9th) place team. We have to play better from top to bottom, from coaching staff down to the deepest bench.

I'm curious about how much of what we've seen is the Pelicans coming together at the right time or the Suns imploding? Maybe it's a combination of both, but if you showed this series to someone who had been in a coma for the past nine months, they would think the Pelicans were the No. 1 seed and the Suns were just lucky to be there.

How much of it is the Suns' perpetual curse of injuries in the playoffs
Booker
Saric
Amare
Nash
Joe Johnson
Raja Bell
Barkley
KJ
Danny Manning
Cedric Ceballos
So many times the Suns have a had a starter or important role player injured just before or during the playoffs.

I just saw the 3pt shooting stats for this series.Pelicans are shooting like 44% as a team!? I mentioned this during the regular season. How teams seem to suddenly turn into the 2017 Warriors vs the Suns.If the Suns could match that same 3pt percentage, they'd probably have swept the Pelicans by now.

I think he might help in this series though pulling a big out of the paint which would limit the offensive rebounds a bit. We could play bigger with our first round unit and have a better bench.

They were also missing Donte DiVincenzo who could have given them some good minutes.

No, what I meant is we are hamstrung next yr in any attempt to externally improve this team. Outside of marginal add ons, there are no trade chips that will yield much of a return. Judging from the responses, I think most see the writing but avoid the wall.

Maybe Saric just wouldn't have been athletic enough but I was just thinking it would have been nice to have him for this series. His ability to run the offense would have been very useful with Booker hurt.bwgood77 wrote:dremill24 wrote:^^lets not act like Saric was going to save us in last year's Finals lol

Definitely agree here. With Saric out with injury, it’s something they could consider trying with Wainwright even though he doesn’t have the post game of Saric, he can shoot a lil bit.

I know the Suns passed on Brandon Clarke and selected Cam Johnson.
How difficult would it be for the Suns to trade for him?

We don't have much for tradeable assets for guys on good contracts unless you are talking about trading Cam for him.

I don’t see any problem with that, we have in the roster everything needed to win a championship.
Some cheap bench addition to replace whoever lefts will be enough.

I was referring to you saying that all the Pels had to game plan for was CP3 when Booker is out. Your other comment about next year I didn't bring up.

I see. That game plan was in effect last yr too, as mugging CP coast to coast is the best defensive deterrent when facing the Suns, Book or not.
I was raining on Saber’s roster content parade. This is the all in on CP syndrome… and to a lesser degree Crowder and now Shamet and Payne. Monte don’t want to and James just won’t(can’t) trade any of these guys as it’s counter to the ‘We are Family’ routine sans Willie Stargell
I’m not sold on this roster obviously… but the superior play of stars seems to be what wins championships. At least we have two that can pull that load…
Next yr will be here all too soon and Outside of Mikal and CamJo taking big steps forward, Sham and CPayne to be more consistent, we lack the ability to get much better.
This is the yr folks. You do not get many chances.

Adding a really good player in McCollum - close to All Star level with a solid rotational player in Nance for Hart (who can be released this summer , Sato and NIckell witha TPE) was an absolute steal for the Pelicans.
So yes, technically, they are the 9th seed, play in game all that - but if that team had McCollum and Nance the entire year, they would not have been the 9th seed. If Zion gives them anything next year (either on the court or in a trade) - they have a solid group.
And I often compare the Suns to the 2014 SPurs team and the SPurs were taken to 6 games by the Mavs. Matchups in the NBA are a true thing.

I think we may have lucked out not trading 1-2 firsts for Gordon.
Between our future picks, Crowder and Saric's expirings, and maybe Payne, we do have some OK assets to grab someone who can fill a need.
I expect us to retain McGee and maybe Biz too.
Or we run it back, but add Saric and use MLE (if allowed) to find a reasonably priced backup guard who can create.
