So he's basically on a similar contract to what Wes Johnson was on this year for the Suns.

No Wes was on the end of his rookie #4 contract, which was $4+ million. I think you meant Tucker.

I just meant as in the end of the player's rookie contract. Both Wes and Lee were/are at the end of their rookie contracts.

Haha, got a good workout spar with another Suns fan who showed up tonight just as frustrated as I was, had our instructor telling us to go easy about 100 times,

Looking back, I'm still pretty "meh" on Len, primarily because McLemore was there and Noel to an extent as well. Foot injuries, especially stress fractures, scare me when talking about big guys, but if our medical staff saw no problem with it than I guess its not a big deal hopefully. I just think this does nothing to get me excited about for next year because Gortat is still going to be the starter and will get the majority of minutes if we are really keeping him as we'll need to increase his trade value. No offense to Len, but I doubt he will be able to drum up any interest for the Suns this coming season.

Like Goodwin and think that's a nice "upside" pick especially since his shooting can be fixed, although not sure he will be a good fit at PG as he struggled at that position at Kentucky. Think the Suns will see that and move him to SG. Oriakhi is a questionable pick to me as well, thought we would take Thomas for sure, figures the Spurs would take him right after we don't.

Overall, it really does feel like we are in not for a short rebuild (1-2 years), but a long one (3+ years), which obviously sucks.

Guess its all aboard #TankforWiggins2014

Next year is going to be a long season.

I like Len, but having Gortat and company and seeing what happened with Noel, I would've preferred to grab Noel and trade him to get Jrue. I love the kid's game. He would've been a perfect compliment to Dragic moving forward. Plus the 42nd pick, could've netted another young asset

Well realistically we need everything. So I am fine with BPA and I hope our staff is right about their evaluations.

While I agree that we need ALMOST everything. I don't believe that PG is a position of need for us. We have a very good starter with a more than adequete backup. I think it really is too bad we couldn't shore up the back court for the future with this draft and then follow up with the front court with next year's draft and free agency.

Yes, I mean Marshall and I don't care if most don't agree. I think Marshall will be a good backup PG. I don't think he'll be a good starting PG, but he will be the best backup we've had at the point since Dragic. If Hornacek works with him on his shooting he could be a real nice complimentary player. I don't think he'll ever live up to his hype (did he even have hype?) but I'm not ready to write him off after one year in the pros like most on this board.

Do you mean Marshall with adequate backup? I bet most here would not agree :p I personally want to see more of him before I label him. Yes he did have three very high assist games in three starts, but this is definitely not a sample size big enough to say he would be a legit backup PG.

Like I said I am not writing him off and I too want to see more of him. And this season is the perfect time to give him lots of minutes. But I don't think you could already, as of now, call him an adequate backup yet.

You would be ok with trading our pick and a top 5 protected pick next year for Holliday?

I love Holliday too but I don't know if he's worth that much.

Perhaps that's fair but I certainly can say that we need the other 4 positions more than PG.

Well then at least we didn't pick up Kabongo or Jackson and Goodwin will play along Dragic I guess :)

Speaking of Kabongo, how does it work with undraftet players? Can you just sign whoever you want? If so why wouldn't we not sign CJ Leslie or Kabongo to a 10-day contract or something like that? They were expected to be drafted, so they have to have at least some kind of potential.

Anyone else watch this video? About 25-30 seconds in the sound doubles up with sound from the beginning and makes it impossible to watch. Anyone else have this problem?

Now that the draft is over, teams and agents are in discussions to see who the agents see as possible landing spots for their players. Most agents know the Suns could be looking at SG and SF mostly, so agents of those SG and SF's will target the Suns as well. Mutual desires is what it comes down to. After that, it's whoever a player can get an invite from.

Fair enough, but I think we can agree on us not really having a chance at competing for say at least the playoffs next season no matter who we sign or what happens. I don't know how many SGs or Cs there will be in the next draft, but maybe they have a SG in mind that they would want and that could be had in the lottery, where we will land for sure.
When will Len be back playing btw? I know this is highly speculative, but maybe they thought that they would play Gortat till the draft deadline, let Len recover, start playing as a backup and then be the starter come February. Or there really is a deal for Gortat in place already that they just couldn't announce yet. I would be happy with McCollum, and he is a SG that can shoot.

edit: and I agree that it was total nonsense to play Telfair so much ahead of Marshall esp. in a season that was lost pretty much early on. I'm not high on Morris and I feel like he's had his fair share of time so I liked showcasing Scola over playing him bcs I think especially at the deal we have him on he is a HUGE asset.

I don't know about us not competing for a playoff spot. I haven't seen the team under new coaching, and don't know how much sitting our two black holes will do. However, having too many guys that play the same position, and none of them at allstar status, will be tough to go far. I think McL would have been the better pick here, unless a Gortat trade was already in the works, landing us McC and Crabbe. But with Portland grabbing Whithy, if he stays there, I don't know anymore.

Morris got minutes, and then sat, then got minutes. It was too up and down to get consistent. But we drafted him when we already had Frye, which is what I meant. We continue to draft second stringers, not starters. McL could have easily grabbed the starting two spot for us this year. All the other spots, not so sure.

I like Scola a lot. I wanted to get him right before (and while) we let Amare go. I think Scola or Lee in place of Amare would have been great.

Garrett went undrafted. He was a guy that I wanted to pick up a year earlier than we did. Guys that aren't drafted are basically just free agents. We can invite them to the summer league, and then offer them a contract. Usually you don't guarantee their contract, so the ten day thing isn't needed. Those usually come near the middle to the end of the season.

I would like to take this time to personally apologize to people on here for my outbursts when Len was picked.

I was just in shock. Just absolutely shocked that we picked him, as my favourite prospect (Noel) was still on the board.

However, I support Alex Len 100%, and I hope that he will have a great future here as a member of our beloved Phoenix Suns.

In McDonough we trust!

That'd be awesome if RealGM instituted word filters for the forums.

I would filter the words "tank" and "tanking" so freakin' hard.

Also, hey RealGM, kinda sorta would be nice to institute a search function that works AND an ability to look at prior posts by user by each individual post, not by thread.

Kinda off topic, but kinda not.

I would have just drafted Jrue instead of Earl Clark in the first place. F*cking Kerr! :x

After a few hours to let it stew, I'm not all that pissed about Len at 5. Disappointed they couldn't grab a late lottery pick from someone, but hopefully Horny can work on Goodwin's shot with him and get that all straightened out. Hoping they can pick up a few more players that were projected to get picked that didn't for their summer league team. Maybe Kabongo/Leslie/Curry/Carmichael off the top of my head.

I really can't see Goodwin fitting into their PG role they mentioned. If he gets his shot down a bit better, might turn into a good surprise at SG.

Also, waiting until trading opens up more to see if any other moves are made. I really don't like Len being taught by Gortat. Rather have O'Neal brought back to show him some things. Hoping this means Gortat has a trade in the works. Would be awesome if it brought back McCollum, and some other pieces.
